Anyone else trying this game out? I got accepted into presale beta yesterday, haven't had any time to play other than create my hero because of class/work. But it looks really good and I've heard great things from other friends in it.

I dont think it has PvP...and I think you have to be a lame good guy. Which pretty much sinks it for me right there.

From what I've heard, they are adding villians, and with them, PvP. However, I have no CLUE what you will do to pass the time ? I mean, will you kill ? If so, what ? Do you work a normal job, then have to run to a phone booth to switch outfits ?

I mean, wth ?

I don't know much about it yet, but I got my pre-sale box today and will hopefully get into the beta program in a couple of days. It's a good concept, I just hope they implement it correctly.

I've been hearing that from so many people. But what's good about it ? I mean, really. What're you looking forward to doing ? Creating your character ? Being unique ? What about it is getting you interested.

I just re-installed DAoC yesterday to pass the time until WoW. I'm not seeing anything fantastic about CoH. Not trying to be critical, just curious.

The game doesn't look that interesting. I might try it if its free, its not worth the money to pay for that game every month.

Well spent like 3 hours playing tonight with some buds, and it was a most enjoyable experience. You are a hero 24/7, and paragon city has a billion bad guys, Mephex. All of them are just NPCs though, but if you are correct on them adding Villians and a bad guy faction, this game could become great, instead of just entertaining right now.

Basically you accept missions, go complete the missions, usually rescue some missing people from sometypeofbadguys. or find some stolen painting, or take care of gang problems in a park. The types of badguys we saw were your typical thugs, zombies, clockwork machines, and some Nazis. Seems pretty typical right now, the city seems quite large, we never left the zone we started off in/instanced dungeons connected to it.

The missions are usually in instanced dungeons, much like how LDoN works. Missions can be done solo, or you can group up with people, and the missions automatically increase in difficulty to account for your group, which I think is a pretty good idea.

Graphics are pretty nice, controls are nice and the gameplay isn't just hit auto attack and watch it do its thing. although it isn't that much more than that.

Character creation is simply amazing, every hero looks soooooo cool, and the chances of looking exactly the same as another hero are going to be pretty slim because of the number of options are just wow.

I suggest buying the presale box to get into the beta for 3 weeks for only 10 bucks, and if you like it you get 10 bucks off release.

City of Heroes, haha. I got banned from that forum years ago for trolling the comic book fanboi's.

I think the definition of the term "peen" in the context I used it is still a hotly debated issue.

Wow, it's actually out in beta? I used to be around on the CoH forums a long time ago, but I gave up posting after they kept repeatedly pushing back the date of their beta. I probably won't bother to check it out now, though...going to wait for Worlds of Warcraft, which, judging from what I've seen so far, is going to be amazing.

I am hoping that CoH will (with the introduction of "villain" heroes) be some pvp-ing super-hero fun. WoW is currently looking to be a daoc+eq cookie-cutter mmorpg grind-fest.

Ive been checking it out in beta, kinda of hard to explain besides just plainly describing it as different. Before beta wasnt to sure about playing a super hero, seemed a bit cheesy, after playing it in beta found myself preordering it. Nice thing is its somewhat solo player friendly. You can get your own solo indoor missions that dont take forever to complete and you can actualy get a decent amount of experience doing. Its nice when you dont feel like waiting around/begging for a group for anywhere up to an hour or so in other games.

Now that would be interesting....

Bad guys get missions to break stuff & Good guys get missions to try and stop them.....

Best super villian/superhero wins. That I could get behind. I'm not into the "raid random dungeon/ win fabulous prize" stuff.

When I was still following it, the developers were all "It's called city of HEROES!!!!111!!!"

Bunch of nerds man, the entire forum would flip out if I brought up the fact that super heroes don't exist or something.

Screenshots

This is my first-created char, and the one I play most often -- a level 5 mutant defender (dark/psionic) -- it's sort of like a ShadowKnight in that it has an endurance tap which acts as a group-heal.

This is me sprinting away, showing off the prestige sprint effect.

Me fighting a thug, after just having tapped him. The dark blue/grey cloud is the start spell effect, and the green stuff is the health-bonus effect from tapping him.

My char from behind. ops:

Wouldn't I make a great villain? The Evil Small Pink Demon-man! (By the way, my char is only about four feet tall.)

This is me after I h4x0r3d my way to the top of a building. Nice view. There are actually sometimes mobs that high up, because later in the game you get flying and leap abilities which allow you to hang around on the top of skyscrapers.

This is the rear-view of a female counterpart that I made (a lvl 1 magic tanker).

Frontal view -- the amount of customization in this game is fucking incredible.

Me, on teh female char, using a fire-based melee attack.

Nice graphics but as others have said, what exactly is there to do? I personally dont think saving people/artifacts from bad guys is that fun. I like my mmorpg's to give me a sense of being in a whole new huge world, not some city full of thousands of other heros.

At this point it's really just missions. Most of them are just kill-these-things-recover-this, or kill-this-many-of-these type of missions. I'm hoping that at higher levels there is some more variety, but I think that they are going to be launching the game with little actual content. I think that this will be a great game to play in six months or so.

I am in beta and have been since the second wave, and have bought the pre-sale, and this is the first MMORPG that I am going to pay for...

It is great. I personally don't understand those that want PVP so bad. There are plenty of villians to fight. No crafting to worry about. The story arcs are great, and you can even develop nemisis (sp?) over time...

The developers are great about listing to the beta testers, and have balanced the game pretty darn well.

There is plenty of content, from different villian groups (low level thugs up to archvillians) and different settings from "normal" cities to Hazard Zones where the baddies get tough.

If you like superheros, you should check it out.
If you wanna be a supervillian... Tough, take your money elseware, but your missing a great game.

it's not as crowded as you might think. the game is mostly geared towards grouping and missions. i do like the interactivity they had added to some of the missions. one mission had a group of villians hunting YOU down.

another mission my hero got diseased at the end (he gained some negative debuffs, and a sickly looking flyy buzzing animation). I had to do another mission to rescue a doctor to get cured.

i had one mission where i was allowed to test out a pair of EMP guantlets (temporary electric blast power).

i like the way the missions are part of a storyline that your contacts (NPCs) guide you through...

I'm level 10 now, and really enjoying myself. The vast majority of people in the beta are pretty cool (though some are comic-book-geeks who are mmorpg newbs) and I'm exploring some more with a small group of people that I play with. Look me up on Prime -- same name.

I helped found a new "Supergroup" (guild) and part of the neatness of it is that you can choose two colors for your SG. You can then (as a member of the SG) use those two colors to make a Supergroup-color-scheme for your character. Here's mine, and I really like it -- more than my original colors, even.

Here's the other co-founders and I, showing off.

Here is a teammate of mine (a Controller, like an Enchanter+cleric mix) resurrecting another teammate. My res spell looks so much cooler.

It looks cool, but can you dress as a civilian. Having a double life is what being a superhero is all about. The game would be severly lacking if it didnt allow you to dress up as a civilian and only change when you encounter enemies.

Well, you can dress like a farmer or a businessman, but there's no outfit-changing really. Paragon City is a city of heroes, so being a hero isn't really a big surprise to anyone.

If you die you can either be resurrected, or respawn at a hospital.

The required specs don't seem to be that high. I can run it nearly flawlessly on my P4 1.5ghz + 1gb ddr-ram + GF 4400 w/ 128mb setup.
