UT2004 Problems?

So far, UT2004 seems to have added lots of cool stuff, but the engine isn't working all that well. The game geeks here in Dorkville were discussing it today, and here are the things we are all seeing. Feel free to tell me if you see or experience these as well.

1) Online Multiplayer: game crashes or hangs indefinitely when loading up at weapons locker

2) Online Multiplayer: game crashes when jumping in to a Manta

3) Single player: with graphics settings on Normal, game play stutters when looking left or right. For instance, if I run down an hall and keep my view straight ahead, the framerates are very smooth. If I turn left to shoot at a foe or jump around to escape a rocket ( ) the framerates dip and I can actually see the game drop frames.

Before you blame my machine, I have a P4 3.2G/512 MB RAM/ATI 9800Pro. By the way........................The demo ran great!!!

No problems thus far.

However, my buddy (who has a pretty fast machine) couldn't get the demo to run. It chugged along slowly and crashed over and over

Well, I have yet to purchase the game, but if all of you are experiencing this problem, then it's probably something that would be fixed in a patch that Atari's gonna release. However, my system (p4 2.4, 512 mb, ati 9700 pro) runs the demo like a dream as well. Funny, wonder if I'll experience this problem as well.

I dunno, I haven't had a problem at all. I have all my setting as high as they'll go, and it runs perfect.

The demo also ran great for me. Now all I need is more time to play.

What drivers are you using?

Strange, I have a 3200+, radeon 9600, 512ddr etc and it runs no problem at MAX everything. I had problems for awhile with my system but it turned out that one of my RAM chips wasnt functioning properly in dual channel.

The bots made me so pissed off, I deleted all the maps except the Onslaught ones.
They are such BS with auto aim and all these exclusion rules.

CATALYST 4.3?

I was using 3.7 with my 9800 PRO, but I'm using 4.2 right now, and they work great. I've used some drivers that were buggy before.

Yup. Catalyst 4.3.

Sooooooo.....it looks like the results are all over the board. Hmm... I've been looking in to some tweak guides online, but have only found a few tips. I, too, can crank up everything, but in order for the game to handle that, it will drop frames. I dunno. I guess I'll wait for a patch. I'll still play online, because Onslaught is really cool.

Try 4.2 or 3.7 and see if that helps.

It's called a Special Edition because it was made in a limited amouts.....

*hugs DVD edition*

If they were smart they'd make more because people really want a DVD version.

Only thing I can add is that I've found that programs (games mostly) that use DirectX sometimes have problems if installed on an NTFS partition. I don't understand why, but it seems NTFS doesn't always play well with DirectX. I have a drive with FAT32 partitions that I use specifically for the installation of games. Before I set up this drive, I had problems. Afterwards, no problems. No driver changes, nothing. Just reinstalled on a FAT partition.

P4 3.0GHz/1 GB RAM/ATI 9800Pro (w/Catalyst 4.3)

BTW, the DVD edition of UT2004 rocks. The MAYA, uPaint and UnrealEd instructional videos kicked my ass. Now I've got to get me a real copy of MAYA. PLE version's nice for learning, but the watermark sucks. Guess you can't have it all from a free version of a $7,000 software package.

There were two dvd editions. One that was one DVD and another that was 2 dvds. i dont see why they would stop making the dvd edition all together.

To me UT2004 seems so much slower than the UT2003...
The graphics are nice but sometimes confusing and dark.

Is there a low gravity in the 2004 at all?

Tried just both demos.
