UT2004 went gold! Release on March 15th!

Breaking news (well one day old), Unreal Tournament 2004 has gone gold!

For more information on Unreal Tournament 2004, check out this link

For those of you who dont know what this means, UT2004 is finished!
The development company sends the final "gold" copy of the game to the publication company which produces all the copies you see on store shelves.

As far as I know there are three versions of UT2004 shipping:
1. UT2004 (Spanning 6 cds I think)
2. UT2004 (1 DVD)
3. UT2004 Special Edition (2 DVD's)
Quote:
Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD Special Edition will ship as a double-DVD set – disk one will include all of the game content while disk two will include hours of Video Training Modules (VTMs) from 3D Buzz that teach fans and amateur mod makers how to use the Unreal Editor to create custom game content. Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD Special Edition will come in a limited edition metal box and will contain a Logitech Internet Chat Headset for use with the game’s exclusive voice-over-IP (voice chat) technology, as well as an Unreal window sticker.
Special edition is limited to 60,000 copies, and most retailers have already sold out.

Quote:
Unreal Tournament 2004 is expected to be available worldwide on March 15
For more information, check the official press release

Sounds good. I'll probably buy UT2K4, unless some catastrophic blowout prevents me from doing so.

Oh my god, no. The new game modes are fucking out of this world. Onslaught is a mode where you have to secure points of the map (called "nodes") in order to be able to destroy the enemy's base. There are vehicles. Really fucking awesome vehicles. It's a small scale BF1942, mixed in with Halo.

Fucking great, I swear it. And that's only from one map. There's also a story-kinda driven mode, with attackers and defenders. Really, really action packed and FUN.

The netcode is intensely tight, many many servers with ~40 ping, and I'm on a popular cable provider.

It's a little slice of heaven. <3.

That's about it... a couple of new games and some different weapons, but the game play is pretty much a prettier version of the original UT.

Oh... and there are a few new vehicles. Some look like they were boosted straight outta Halo.

Exactly, ONS-Torlan is really fun, except for when noobs snag the raptor/goliath...

I've never had so much fun as on that Assault map on the demo. Never been into FPS before, and admittingly not very good at them, but the demo was a blast. I'll be picking one up for sure.

I'm in. The Onslaught mode is actually more amazing than I thought it would be. Very cool team-based game that has not been a part of the UT system before. Probably worth the price for a handful of those maps alone.

By the way: does anybody know the status of what was mentioned last year: the ability to trade in UT2003 for a price break on UT2004? I know there have been some big changes in the companies surrounding this game.

Its not a trade in, all you do is provide proof you bought UT2k3 (UPC # or whatever by filling out this form to get your 10$ rebate.

Well, discounting five vehicles and five new game modes (Onslaught, Double Domination, Bombing Run, Mutant, Invasion), the new weapons (mine layer, grenade launcher, AVRiL) an old weapon returning to the fold (sniper rifle), four new features (voice-over IP, proxy broadcast, voice recognition, text-to-speech)--I would have to agree, it's just UT with some astonishing graphical improvements.

As to Halo's vehicular originality, you may want to consider familiarizing yourself with Tribes . Personally, I think vehicles respond a lot better with standard keyboard movement and mouse camera control. But to each his own.

Would that be at the retail outlet, online or???

Let me know where I can read about that. Seems a good deal!

I pre-ordered the SE from bestbuy.com earlier. Seems to be the only place with the SE still in stock. It was only $30 too.

Well the demo was definetly great, especially the new Onslaught mode. Apparently the full version has over 100 levels in total, so this one should be tremendous value for money.

Hell, if the game came with nothing but Onslaught and Assault, it'd be a pretty hard-to-refuse offer.
