ah, yes. we all know that if anybody can give a just game review it is US. ourselves!

so how about, when we finish a game, we review it? we'll pick up a ratings as we go along? thoughts? I'd love to see this happen!

only review a game you finish, though unless you _hate_ it. k?

First off:

Splinter Cell on the Playstation 2:
graphics were pretty good, but nothing to really notice. compared to what the X-Box could do with the lighting, the PS2s version was just dull.

the music was nothing to take much note of, but it wasn't terrible. The sound affects were exelent, though, and were very helpful.

Gameplay was what hooked and kept me in. The control scheeme is pretty much flawless and usefull. I especially liked the R2 to pull or holster a gun and
R1 to shoot. the only thing i didn't care for was no option to strafe unless you had a weapon in hand. also, though it looks amazing, the whole jump-up-above-the-enemy's head split thingie never came in handy but once.

The story was shallow, but bearable.

over all, I thoroughly enjoyed it, if a little let down. I feel like I have to turn it on again to finish it.... then remember I /did/. the ending is very unsattisfying.

i give it a strong 7.

Despite some AI minor quirks (fielding related) and a passable franchise mode, the pitching and throwing interface in MVP 2003 (Xbox) help to make it my favorite baseball game this spring (after playing 3 of them for Xbox).

The pitching interface makes pitching more interactive in this game vs. the others.

If EA can improve on what it's got here, this will be THE game next spring without a doubt.

Well, I doubt anyone bought this, but if I save one person, it's worth it.
Impossible Creatures. It looked like a neat idea, I like most RTS games, and the creatures you can make are actually pretty funny. But the gameplay is utterly ass. I slogged through 5 levels before I threw in the towel. It's sitting on my floor right now, and I have to resist the urge to step on it every time I see it. A great idea ruined by poor mechanics.

last night I finished Final Fantasy 2 off of Final Fantasy Origins (note: FF2 is NOT the same "FF2" on the SNES)

the game was great! I almost didn't even start it due to the just plain odd keyword and no leveling gameplay. but i did and woo i am glad i played it.

the story is nothing new this day and age. at the time i'd say it was fairly deep and dramatic. a lot of deaths for the betterment of man kind and so forth.

the graphics, i'm not going to score. it's a remake of an 8bit game....

the music was fair, but again not really comparable due to the age.

the gameplay, though mindnumbingly deep to begin with, was fun and fairly easy to grasp. its semi simple:

if you always attack you will become stronger. if you use black or white magick you grow in the atribute you need to cast more powerful spells. the more you get hit the higher your defense is. and, also, if you have a mage attack over and over his str will Increase and his Intelligence will Decrease. an odd balance but managable.

in the end I simply had the three main characters and one of the guest all using two weapons each and castic healing spells.

i give the game an easy 9. if only they brought it to the US so long ago...

Zelda: The Wind Waker

i just finished this, after renting it a little over a week ago. low on cash, but had enough to do this. It was worth it!

the graphics were great, the cell shading is simply beautiful. all moving dieties looks like living, breathing, 3D animations. they never look paper thin!
the graphics can get better, but not easily.

the sound..... got boring. sure, i LOVE the original Zelda tune and the 'puzzle solved' theme.. but.. come on, we need a change.

the story is as thin as the others, if a little different. most games I play I play for plot. this game i played out of love of the series and, of course, fun.

the play control was great. not flawless, but better than many control scheemes. If only all games had the Splinter Cell PS2 control mapping perfection!

overall, the game is perfect. i am a little let down because all of the magic isn't here now , but I realise i'm trying to catch the 'magic' of the original... that's been... what.. 15 years? this is the latest installation of a l o n g series and it's pulling the job off very well.

if only i can recatch the 'A Link to the Past" spirit again!

10 even.
