Xbox is lan compatible yes, you can do various things
xbox live - needs xbox live specific games, whacked, unreal, ghost recon, mechwarrior etc xboxconnect - needs broadband and a pc, dunno if you could do it on a modem, probably not, you can play almost any game that has a link mode. 2 or more xboxes in the same room, lanparty style with a hub. charliex is my xbox live id, though i usually only play whacked. |

I bought my xbox used: $100.00 for the box, 2 paddles and three games, but no manual. I dont appears to have a video ouput (the yellow plug) on my TV. My cable box does, but it didnt seem to work when tried. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Not sure about gamespy, but I'll read further. Thanks for the links. This is gonna open up my gaming experience for Xbox. As I am on Live, but as someone said on another thread we are about 6 mo. away from a decent experience. Also, I don't want them to go Phantasy Star all the way where the games are subs. based. Sun Tzu U got SCART? Thats how mine connected to telly. There's what looks like a SCSI II slot on the back of the XBOX (UK PAL spec) and that cable goes to SCART into the back of the TV. Unless you have a cable Bb connx theres no need to plug Xbox into the cable box.

I look up SCART because I dont know what that is, but Im assuming its a converter. Thanks for the info. When I get up and running is there a way for Xboxers in the forum to connect in games?

Sun Tzu: You can also get converters at Radio Shack/Best Buy/even Walmart that take 3 plugs(2 audio & 1 video), and let you hook them up with coaxial. The vid quality goes down, but no worse than regular television. I had to do this for my dvd player since my tv is ancient.
Also, if you go this route, I suggest Radio Shack. They had an adapter box that would automatically turn on when it recieves input(you turn on the xbox), and the shutdown when their was no input. Most of the others I have seen require you to press a button to turn them on. |

Thats why I started this thread , what we'll have to do is set up "buddies" on the xbox live (You'll see it when you get Live). Then arrange times to go online and with what games. Because of the nature of the games we can then run teams. Its fairly clumsy way to do it, and would love to know of another way. I also suspect that if a buddy is online you get notified, but haven't tested it yet so don't know. Gonna try it out over the next few weeks with a mate in Canada so we can test lag, and time zone diff. Bit difficult for me at the mo' cause I don't have shiteloads of time. TFP has seriously eaten into the limited spare time I've had

Hey guys, all this talk about X-Box live and the ability to play on a LAN has got me seriously interested in buying an X-Box, I'd suggest you ring up Microsoft to ask for commission if I do buy an X-Box, but I guess they'll tell you to go to hell and burn
But seriously, I'm very keen on getting a Box now Thanks! |

DO IT> I was a Beta Tester for Xbox Live and have been hooked ever since. There is a down time right now while MS gears up for more Content, but it is AWESOME. I beat Splinter Cell, and put the game away. Then the come out with ANOTHER LEVEL download for FREE. Gave new life to a game I had put away. Fever allows you to update the roster to reflect actual performance the players have that year. I don't want to start a PS2 vs. Xbox debate, but my Xbox stays connected to my TV, and the PS2 only connects when I want to play Vice City.

GR Island Thunder? Must look that one up, never heard of it. Also how did youget to Beta test? Mate of mine worked on CEL Damage, nad I didn't even et a sniff. No surprise really, he's on the other side of the pond. You mentioned down time, any guess why? Is it because MS are looking to ramp up the Live system, or is it strictly lag between title releases?

Mad_Gecko... It is due out in July / August time frame, with 6 new multi maps, and 4 from the original. All new levels, some new guns... It will be a stand alone disk for $29.95 they are saying. I am getting beat on Recon, basically bought it on Nov 15th when it came out and spent COUNTLESS hours online.. Got my moneys worth that is for sure!!!!!!!!
I applied for the Beta and got hooked up. Not sure what turned them on me, but it allowed me to secure my Tag before the masses hooked on. I think they put together a launch list of games, but none of the game manufacturers wanted to spend a ton of money on Live Programming if it failed. There is a rumor that Halo 2 was delayed because they didn't plan on having to program Live content. Just a rumor...

Just picked up Return to Castle Wolfenstein. If you liked the old game, or played LAN Doom, or remotely like Unreal, THEN BUY THIS GAME! The Live is unreal.
It is not Ghost Recon, so don't expect that. But if you liked the games above, dive in. AWESOME

And I saw Return to Castle Wolfenstein got awesome reviews, just few points under Halo

Prophecy, look into 'Phantasy Star Online' or 'True Fantasy Online' for online RPG stuff.
PSO looks addicting yet boring at the same time depending on your attention span. A few guys at work are hooked. Although not out yet, TFO looks great. Personally, I'm against MMORPGs due to subscription prices coupled to the price of a game. I pay my ISP bill and my Live account. The gall of them to ask $40-$50 per game IN ADDITION TO a subscription fee to play online disturbs me. If they gave the games out at a reasonable reduced price, then I'd be ok with it. Otherwise, F that. |
