Champions of Norrath - Online multiplayer RPG for PS2..
I came across a link about Champions of Norrath earlier. It's an Everquest game, but for PS2, and not "massively online" as it limits to groups of 4 users at once. The game includes random dungeons, levels, and skill trees, and it won't have a monthly charge. From what I understand you can build your character off-line and then take it online. Or you can play online with 3 others right away..
The game seems like it has the potential to be good, and since it only allows for groups of 4 online, I think that it will be more personal, and possibly more fun also. I'm not sure if you heard of this game or not, but if you haven't I'll give a few links to previews below. The game comes out Feb. 16. Here are a few sites that have previews up: IGN's review is very well done, and also seems to have to most accurate data. RPG Gamer's claims there is no mic/headset support, yet the IGN preview says that the previewer was talking to his friend, and mentions headset convos throughout the preview. I like how the game is on a smaller scale (4 players online). You save your characters independently online and you are free to wander at will and not restricted by where your online partners are. I think the game has potential and could be a lot of fun. It isn't a "harcore" RPG, and seems to be more focused on hack-n-slash, and I think that could be fun too.. I'd be interested to hear what your thoughts on the game are. I think it would be fun to get a small group of guys that played the game online, as that generally increases the fun factor when you play with people you know. Is anyone else excited about, and anticipating the release of Champions of Norrath?

It's different from FFXI. FFXI has hunderds if not thousands of people playing in a persistent world. the combat isn't real time either. In CON I think 4 people is the most you will be able to get a group of going. Once your in the world, which isn't persistent it has random dungeons, you don't see anyone else. The combat is real time hack and slash affair.

First of all,Champion of Norrath was made by the same people who made Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance.
Everyone remembers DA right? Well, supposedly CoN is better than DA II,which I just purchased today. CoN could possibly be one of the best hack n slash rpg's for ps2. |

Gamespot gave a brief preview/impressions regarding online play.
The game comes out next week, and I am really looking forward to playing it online. My friend and I will be playing together, and ideally we can find one or two more guys to hook up on a consistent basis, so we can get some levels and have some fun. Anyway, here is the preview: Quote:

This game actually looks pretty good. It looks like it will be just like Baldurs Gate 2, except done the right way.
I'm still not real big on multiplayer for the PS2, but this looks like it might be fun.

What do you mean you don't get addicted? What the hell is the point of a game like this if you don't get addicted to it?
Oh well, I could use the extra sleep anyway.

IGN has a very favorable review up for Champions of Norrath, calling it the best dungeon-crawler on the PS2 ahead of the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series. Their initial review has it rated at 8.9 out of 10 which is pretty much "must buy" status on my scale.
If I were a bigger fan of dungeon crawlers I'd probably get it. -Lasereth

I was so going to buy this today, but then I found out that you need broadband to play online. I, of course, don't have broadband. Mybe I'll just ask for it for my birthday.
