I came across a link about Champions of Norrath earlier. It's an Everquest game, but for PS2, and not "massively online" as it limits to groups of 4 users at once. The game includes random dungeons, levels, and skill trees, and it won't have a monthly charge. From what I understand you can build your character off-line and then take it online. Or you can play online with 3 others right away..
The game seems like it has the potential to be good, and since it only allows for groups of 4 online, I think that it will be more personal, and possibly more fun also.
I'm not sure if you heard of this game or not, but if you haven't I'll give a few links to previews below.
The game comes out Feb. 16.
Here are a few sites that have previews up:
IGN's review is very well done, and also seems to have to most accurate data. RPG Gamer's claims there is no mic/headset support, yet the IGN preview says that the previewer was talking to his friend, and mentions headset convos throughout the preview.
I like how the game is on a smaller scale (4 players online). You save your characters independently online and you are free to wander at will and not restricted by where your online partners are.
I think the game has potential and could be a lot of fun. It isn't a "harcore" RPG, and seems to be more focused on hack-n-slash, and I think that could be fun too..
I'd be interested to hear what your thoughts on the game are. I think it would be fun to get a small group of guys that played the game online, as that generally increases the fun factor when you play with people you know.
Is anyone else excited about, and anticipating the release of Champions of Norrath?
