Final Fantasy Series
I was just out shopping this weekend, and I found FF Chronicles and Anthology rereleased as PSX Greatest Hits for $19.99.
I realized that I can find FF 1,2,4,5,6 for the PSX, but not 3. Does anyone know if it is available stateside, or will be soon? |

If 3 isn't already in a bundle I doubt you'll find it anytime soon. Square Enix hasn't released any info on re-making or re-pressing the older FF games either.

Strange thing is, I've never played FF3 (JP). Has anyone else? Now that I think of it, I've never seen anything about it. Strange, huh?
Oh and to stay on topic somewhat, I'm going to agree with Prophecy. I don't think Square is planning on re-releasing anymore of the older games. I guess we're out of luck and will never be able to play the masterpiece that was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. *ducks* (Yes, I'm kidding)

Well see, the thing with the FF series is that in America, FFI is actually FFIII in Japan (or something like that) so it's all just switched around and discombobulated and is just one great big boondogle!

I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on Square-Enix for a while...I am curious as to what FF3 is actually like, too. I really haven't heard anything either way about it, but it's a FF game, so I'll most definitely enjoy it.

I have played the FF3 (japanese) version game. Using my favorite emulator of course. Yes, it is translated by a unauthorized gamerom translating group.
It uses the Job system like in FFV and later games, on a severely basic level. You have 4 kids, with a class of "Onion Kid". Within 4 minutes of playing the game, you are able to choose classes for all of them. Its the basic FF jobs. Fighter, White Mage, Black Mage, Monk, etc. I got terribly bored playing this game. Its worth checking out, yes. But don't expect to sink more than a few hours into the game, as it really isn't anything special.

I purchased FF 3 in an 3 games in one package at a Gamestop store. That was about 6 months ago though. So far I have all of the US FFs. I have still yet to open and play all of them. All of my games are for the PS systems. I think FF 3 came with my antholgy or chronicles package will check after work.

I'd be willing to bet that the FF3 that you have is actually FF6. It's the one with Mog on the front, and Terra as the main character, right? That's the one that's packaged in the re-released versions.
Just to clear it up a little.... FF4 (in Japan) ---> FF2 (in America) FF6 (Japan) ------> FF3 (In America) Those are the only ones I can think of that Squaresoft mixed around on us. Feel free to add to the list if you know one that I don't.

I heard a rumor somewhere a long long time ago that FF3 and Secret of Mana would be released together. Probably false, but that'd be pretty damn cool.
And all this talk about the numbering reminds me of when FF7 first came out, people were pissed because they didn't realize the difference in numbering and thought that Square had either skipped or just never released 4-6 over here. |
