Mario Kart: Double Dash
How the hell there's not already an active thread is beyond me. Perhaps there used to be right after it came out?
Anyway, my bro and I picked up a TV and some broadband adapters over vacation. We played a lot of frantic 8-player Mario Kart this evening. I'm not quite sure why it gets such a bad rap...it's a great party game. Heck, even girls will play it...particularly if it's co-op. I agree with most people that Battle Mode is a tad lacking. I recall being disappointed that there were so few MK64 battle levels, but 3 of the 4 were great. However, in this one, 4 out of 6 battle levels (the essentially flat ones) suck. I hated racing in the older games, but it's the real meat of this one. |

I played this game the other day, I can't say I'm impressed. It lacks the thrill of Mario Kart 64.

Ack...mod, sorry about the redundant thread. Didn't notice it before. Thanks for the move.
So what if it's not extremely innovative? You've all talked about how great the 64 version was...and DD improves upon it. The network/internet probably makes it the best party video game ever made. Last edited by DrJekyll; 01-12-2004 at 01:35 AM.. |

The WORST times I had playing this game were with friends, so I don't think I'd enjoy the networked gaming. The single-player was the only fun I had with it. -Lasereth

played it at my friends house and i must say, it smacks the crap out of all the other mariokarts. and is there any real reason why they spell cart with a k? that always bugged me for some inexplicable reason. anyway, the games pretty cool, look forward to mooching off my friend even more than i already do

Just give it a few days...Rainbow Road won't be too difficult. I've heard some suggest that heavier karts are handy though (you won't get pushed off the track as easily). If you're really having trouble, try co-op or just play with someone else (less enemies to contend with).
wordssmith, they spell it with a 'k' cause that's how you spell 'kart'...as in 'go-karts'. |

I love this game. Lots of fun.
However, I really hate playing vs mode against just one other player. This game gives the advantage to whoever is last. The person in first gets all the crappy items (green shells and banana peels), while the person trailing gets all the good stuff (mushrooms, red shells, special items, etc). I was playing with my sister when I first got it, and she's a total newbie. Out of like 12 games, she beat me 11 times. 11 TIMES! Hate the unbalance in the game. I figure out afterwards that the best strategy is to stay behind on purpose, and then take the lead late in the race. But besides that imbalance, great game |

i wish there were a greater length of immunity between times that you got hit by an item. there have been serveral times where me and 3 of my friends are playing and i'll be in the lead the whole race until i get hit by 3-4 consecutive turtle shells with the finish line in sight. at that point, the game's skill curve seems to straighten out. in multiplayer you can only get so good, after that the game turns into a dang socialist.
