Mario Kart: Double Dash
Nintendo just recently began airing commercials for the game, although I think it's another 3 weeks before it's released. You can pre-order it and get a bonus disc, if you like. EGM reviewed it and gave it two 10's and a 9.5, thus earning a Gold Medal and Game Of The Month in the magazine. This game looks to be a big hit for the Christmas holidays (which'll aid the hurting-GameCube), people, and I plan to be one of the many people to get it. My question to you is plenty simple: what do you think about it?
Side-Note: Does anyone know what's on the Bonus Disc? I saw the commercial and I don't think it even mentioned what would be on it. |
I am very interested in this game. I played the heck out of the N64 one. I still want it even though I live alone and don't play my video games as much as before.
Does anyone know if you can play multiplayer with bots in this game? That would be pretty cool. I haven't preordered it, but I know I will buy it, probably a few weeks after it comes out. |

If it's anything like the last two, you can do a 2 player race with computer controlled opponents, and I'll go out on a limb and say you'll probably be able to do battlemode against the computer as well.
I can't wait for this game! I've been a huge fan of SMK since the first one on SNES. |
One of the things on the bonus disc is a non-interactive video of FF:CC - There are supposed to be several interactive demos on it as well though. I don't know what those other things are as FF:CC kind of wiped everything else out of my memory.
I don't own a gamecube, but im thinking about asking for one for Christmas... and if I do, this will be one of the first games I get. I was an avid fan of the first two mario karts. Friends and I would sit there and play them all day, it was great. I'm really glad to hear that its getting good reviews, I was worried they might screw up something great. Guess I should have more faith.

Here's a link to gamestop.com. There's a synopsis about the game and about the bonus features.
I'll put up just the bonus features. http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=220367 Quote:

i'm hoping the catch-up logic is better than it was on N64... there was nothing like lapping opponents 3 times in the original
Wasn't sure about it totally even tho I love mariokart.. Spose I'll have to put in a pre-order :)
I'm planning on getting but I probably won't preorder since there isn't much TOO interesting on the bonus disc. I already played the PC version of the TMNT game that's out now for PS2, xBox and GC and it was HORRID! I was soooooo disappointed. Mario Kart will be good though, now if only I had friends that were any competition....
I'm probably going to buy it. I just hope it's better than the last few mario games I've played.

oh man, so many hours playing both the super nintendo one and the nintendo 64 one. it was addicting as hell
I would rent it before I decided...I think the whole mario kart craze is past it's prime
I've got it pre-ordered. Can't wait to get it!
Well, I loved it for the SNES, got my N64 version stolen at a high school party lol, and I bought a preowned copy, lord knows how long me and my sis and friends spent on those. The good times, when games were actually different and good... Anyways, i'll probably buy this game, but i'll wait for friends to tell me how it is first.
Loved the one for n64 and going to get it when it come out , but dont have a gamecube. Going to get one though since its only a 100$:D
I already pre-paid for it, so when i come back to pick it up, it'll be like getting it for free!

I have loved all the Mario Kart games, but I still don't see myself buying a GameCube just for one or two games I want to play. I'll just wait till someoen I know gets it to play it.
probably check it out but unlikely to have the $$$ to buy it any time soon...
If I can scratch up the dough, I'll buy it. The new TMNT demo would be cool to have too.
From what I've read this is a must have title for the GameCube. I loved the previous 2 so I'll definately be picking this up. Now I just need cash for it.
Pre-ordered it yesterday, after I saw that bonus disk that comes with it I decided why not
definatly going to get this one, I still play the snes version to this day. woot emulators!
Pre-ordered. This is one of those games that is so perfectly balanced, you can still have fun racing against people who are terrible at the game, and they will have fun as well. Mario Kart has never let me down. It doesn't look like that will change.
Got the review copy yesterday. Yoshi and I had a BLAST with the co-op mode. Definitely worth getting!!
I'm looking forward to this. Been playing a lot of F-zero lately and whle very fun also very tough. I bet MK:DD will be a lot more reasonable in that regard. The combat mode has always been a blast to play so I will definately be picking it up.

I'm still playing the N64 version. My friend has a barn with an upper level and a dinky TV w/ an N64. Huge fan of the original, MK64 was a worthy successor.
I just don't have money or time any more, but I will probably rent it down the line, get it used if its good. |
My personal review of the game, now that I've played it for afew days:
If 5 is average, 0 is pure crap, and 10 is utter perfection, I'd give it a 9. The graphics are beautiful and smooth, the music is plenty good, and the difficulty is definately there. I haven't played any multi-player or co-op yet (I can't wait though), but the Grand Prix mode has kept me plenty occupied for the past few days, and it will for awhile longer, too. I dig the whole switching-thing with the characters and weapons, especially how each character has a different special weapon. The controls are simple and makes for an easy and painless learning experience. It's just so...good! The only problem I have is that it doesn't have the same impact on me that Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64 did, heh, but it's hard for most games to accomplish that. |
maybe because you've seen it before.
I have it and i like it a lot.. also check out http://www.warppipe.com for an update on their IP tunneling software :) that way you can play versus people online.. |
I got the game last night, its a fucking blast, i havent played one player yet, but ive played the battle modes and the best, the Grand Prix, wow, its a ton of fun.
yeah the warp pipe might just make me get it. I love Mario Kart, but with no friends to play it against anymore (no one plays me in console games anymore :(.. they dont' like losing to me any longer...), I simply don't want to get a game where I'll want to play with friends. But now Warp Pipe.... I just might be able to still have mutliplayer fun! :)
I got it. Tons of fun
Got it today for my birthday. Excellent game. I'm getting a head-ache for playing it too long. I should stop but...I can't put it down!
i will get it... when i have money
My copy came in the mail last week.
So far, it's a pretty good game. I'm a little disappointed they didn't have different music than MK64(that I heard), but I can deal. *sniff* And yes GakFace, it has a warp pipe you drive into. :D The carts are real beauties as are the game graphics. I just wish I had a nearby neighbor to play against. Playing against the computer gets boring afterwhile. *sigh* Oh well, I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. ;) Onto the bonus disk. I played the Teenage Mutant Turtles demo and it was great, but at the same time annoying as hell. Every time you do a move your character says one of two or three things. It gets on my nerves. I played the Star Wars demo and after I finished, it wouldn't let me go back to the main menu! I had to push reset on the 'Cube. I haven't played the other demos yet, but I watched a couple of the included movie clips, one of which was Harry Potters' Quidditch World Cup.(it looks awesome!) Anyone know how to exit out of the Star Wars demo without resetting it? |
oh man dont get me started on the demos..
the best demo on disk by far was sonic Heros.. OMG!! how can sega keep taking the same game and reinventing it over and over again making it fun? Sonic Team.. that's how.. My girlfriend has already preordered that game.. you gotta try it out! |
