WoW Alpha leaked.

It has been leaked and it is out over IRC and Bittorrent, it's a 2GB download and you can do nothing but look at a login screen now, unless they make a single player crack it will be pointless to have. I hope the source code wasn't leaked, because that will cause a large delay.

Yes, you can look at the alpha screen. but you can also run a server on yoru computer, similar to the same way EQ servers run. You have to have a high end charactar, and youc an spawn anything on the client side.

So is there a fully 3d rendered game you can interact with on the Alpha? RTS/MMPORPG's aren't my thing but leaks make for great conversation.

world of warcraft is gonna suck... it would only be good if they did a wc2 remake in 3d.

WoW is not going to suck. MMORPG's are not my cup of tea, but the rule is this..., anything with the name 'Blizzard' on it is good. They don't release crap. They release around a game a year, they take their time. WoW will probably be the best MMORPG to date. Even though i don't like MMO's, I'll play it cause blizz makes it.

HAs anoyne really played it? I mean whats their impressions. I don't think an emulated server could really do a MMORPG justice..the biggest draws to those kind of games are the community

Currently you can only get to the character select screen, but some people have made a cracked server and are playing on it now, it's supposed to go public in the next day or so.

WoW might be good for gameplay but the people that play it are going to ruin it. I bet a ton of 12 year-olds will flock to it and start messaging you "CN I HAV SOME CREDZ PLZZZZ?Z?Z?" That's probably one of the top reasons I will not play WoW. Ah well...there's always Anarchy Online: Towns of Rubi-Ka. Can't wait :P

The alpha was leaked, and blizzard has offically posted regarding this.

Also if you're interested there are certain hack groups that are developing sandboxes (a single player environment with no entities) but they are not released to the public :P

Its just the Alpha and all you can do is run around in an empty world. There are no mobs and no NPC's, so even making a server would be pointless. This isn't any blow to WoW, and if anything it has only generated good press from the people who have ran around in the empty world.

Still, i think even if it is empty must be nice to see the game world, hope the beta leaks and they make open servers like they did in W3 hehe

Rumor has it one of the player made servers has been able to handle at least 230 people on at once and even been able to succesfully spawn monsters now.

I really doubt that the "crackers" have even much running. It took years to get emulators running for eq and daoc, its going to take more than a few weeks to get something up for WoW. This isnt just another simple battle.net peer-to-peer connection, its a serious server that requires multiple machines/cpu's to actually run.

Actually the raid was Steve Jackson Game-esque and was on very shaky group. Then again, the FBI can do whatever it wants when judges don't understand technology.

The HL2 hacker didn't set back the release date, Valve lied to its customers on the project's complete features and the hacker made this visible for the public.

Actully, your quite wrong. It's a "team" of hackers/programmers, with more resources available to them then some major companies have. They have had 3 stress tests, they can now spawn monsters, and they've said they will have a server available within a few weeks to a month. You can connect through sandbox by listing an IP, and can log on they're server when they open the stress testing.

It's not as difficult as it may seem, and it's very, very possible. The server core is already in place and properly working. It's not that far fetched.

First off, they can't get NPCs on the server which means no quests and no content. Secondly the monsters that are spawning are made by the stormcraft teams themselves.. I have seen the models and they are comedy at best. To top it all off, the characters abilities aren't even finished nor are the high level "hero" abilities. Basically you are looking at a pretty ghetto setup but hey... more power to anybody who wants to go this route, but it won't represent anything WoW has to offer other then the scenery.

You do know that mmorpg's don't give you the server part of the game when you buy it, they only give you the client part. You would have to code the entire server part of the game in exactly the way the client requires. This is why even when the full game is released, they STILL will not be able to make a decent emu of it. Be patient, the game will be out in time.

Which is why I said no entities, they got it through back dumps, i've seen screenshots of the alpha and it's similar to just a open world to run around in. So their really isn't anything to for Blizzard to be concerned about really.
