I need a good MMORPG
Hey i'm in the market for a new MMORPG and need a few suggestions!
I'm just about 90% Sure that i'm going to go buy FFXI, it's got amazing reviews from another forum, but bad reviews from this one so i don't really know... If there are any other new/newer ones out there please suggest them to me! But, no UO, Everquest, You know...the old stuff :P |

If you are a seasoned MMORPGer, then absolutely nothing on the market currently will keep you content. You are best off waiting for WoW or EQ2 to come out. If you are new to the genre, then maybe FFXI might be a good starting point.

I don't think there is anything worthwhile on the market right now. I'd return to EQ before I bought anything newer, or even bought anything proposed. I've played Horizons in Beta and wasn't terribly impressed. SWG leaves me flat. Nothing I've seen in WoW or EQ2 really grab me, and I doubt my machine would live through any attempt to play those.
In short, wait a while and see if anything better comes out. |

There is nothing currently on the market that is worth your money.
What I suggest doing, is going to www.gamespot.com -- click "PC" at the top, then click "Beta Center" in the left nav bar. Then, sign up for half a dozen MMORPG betas and wait for the acceptance emails. This way you can keep busy and not have to spend any cash on crappy games.

FFXI is one of the greatest games ever, i'm having a complete ball on it, there is actually a storyline. THe job system is great, THE best mmorpg i've played (i've played eq, daoc, shadowbane, swg, Anarchy online)
edit: SWG sucks huge ass, nothing to do in it at high end.

I'd look for a guild or clan that plays on the same wavelength that you do, and go to whatever game it operates in.
I still play Ultima Online, not because it has any value as a game, but because the people who most closely fit my playstyle are in the clan I'm in. The Shadowclan Orcs juggle roleplay with PvP, and pretty much ignore PvE, which I find dull and pointless. UO remains the only reliable game out on the market that you don't have to dedicate your life and firstborn son to that has options other than mindless PvE.

I've heard nothing but hate for the controls, combat system, and xp loss in FFXI -- those are reason enough to keep me from paying $50 and $15 a month just for a frustrating xp grind.

2.combat - same as above , just same as FF games on ps1/ps2 3. xp loss?? what do ya want .. a game with no consequences..... go play an offline game then, MMORPGS arent for you obviously. From what Ive seen too many people are judging this without having first experienced the game. But 30 servers, 3 more opening soon and THOUSANDS of people playing cant be wrong. |

From the current batch of worthwhile MMORPG's i would definately recommend DAOC too..
Like most other MMORPGs it is a nasty timerobber, and levelling can be an extremely boring activity, but it DOES have some worthwhile PvP that makes it accebtable. Some of my pet peeves in MMORPGs are Level based systems, crowdcontrol in the form of mezz, roots, stuns etc. I hate these things with a passion...all are in DAOC and i stillplay it almost daily Stay clear of SWG...way way clear....that game is BAD and extremely boring to boot. |

I played SWG for the first 3 months it was up and running. It was horrible. The game is still pretty much in development, they adjust skills and such every couple of days, their are no vehicles yet, and early exploits made it so their are a ton of maxed out super powerful players and anyone who didn't have the time to exploit early on is now forced to get hosed by these guy for the next year while they get to that same level. I quit in disgust, though I would consider going back in a year maybe if they fix most of the issues and make it a whole game.
I played UO for years and every now and then reactivate my account and play. Its just the best for me because I love PvP and no other MMORPG even comes close to offering the same level of PvP and RP that UO does. Unfortunately, it they gimped it something like 2 or 3 years ago and I can't play for more than a month or so before I get fed up because I long for the glory days. But hey its $10 and I get more entertainment in a month of it then I did in 3 of SWG at $15/month.

If u dont like dying, take more time, plan things out. The xp loss is no where near as bad as people say..
Comparing the popularity of a video game against that of a politician just doesnt cut it im afraid. People vote for more reasons than liking the person. however the main thing a game needs to be successful is player enjoyment. |

Try playing the fucking game instead of "what you hear". The controlls. I have a playstation 2 controller that i play with my PS2 to USB converter, and it makes the game play like ANY final fantasy, including fully changeable controlls. I will admit that the key board is a gay way to play, because you need to controll the camera at the same time, but with ps2's 2 analog joysticks, the problem dissapears. Xp loss- yes, ive punched my desk 100 times over, when i die, i loose xp. I hate it, but if the game wasnt hard, then there would be no reason to play it, nothing to learn from. I make better choices, party with the right people, cast a diffrent spell or whatever, after learning from my mistakes. You have to be punished when you die, although, if you can find a nice japanese player to Raise you, you can loose less XP, and even less with Raise II. Price-its 12.99, not 15, dont scare people away by lieing about the price of the game.

I play SWG and i love it. Now Mounts are there (ridable animals) and player cities. soon there will be vehicles, and yes there are jedis.
the fact that you can change you class in the middle of the game is great, just in case you do one you dont like, you dont have to stay with it! SWG rules! |

FFXI you can change job anytime you want and there is actually stuff to do at higher lvls instead of killing the same creature throughout your lvling.
