Patch 1.02 has fixed a lot of performance issues. This game is the game I have been looking for for over a year. I am finally getting back into gaming after about a 3 year slump. I haven't had this much fun multiplayer since Tribes. wow, just wow.
the single player is fun too |

I've been playing for a few weeks now. Not a bad game, really. I'm only playing the MP portion, and saving the SP game for my new machine next week. My biggest gripe: only one run speed. And gee, some maps are so huge when you spawn way......over................there..................... WTF? Oh well, I still enjoy hitting people with vehicles. So silly. Terribly fun.

I've played the demo, and while I do respect the Halo magic, I was somewhat disappointed. I think, silly as it may be, that the *textures* of things are to blame. On the XBox (at least over at a friend's house where I spent an afternoon or two playing SP), the whole game looked good. On my monitor, everything looks *bad*. The menus are pixellated and jaggy. The Pelicans look like they're carved out of a single piece of pitted, rusty steel. Hell, Master Chief's *hands* look like they're carved out of a single piece of pitted, rusty steel. I can see what is still a great physics engine (I spent 10 minutes in a LAN game just 'chasing' a Warthog around with fuel rods and grenades, flipping and cartwheeling it along) has been ported very well. But the actual texture .png or .tga or whatever files are sorely in need of an update. It seems like a silly complaint when I say it, but it really detracts from my suspension of disbelief! I guess I'm a sucker for the pretty. :/ |

Halo has been the worst experience on the PC in my life!
Here is the story. I buy the game and install it. I start a game and my PC reboots. I try it on safe mode and it works, but looks crappy. I patch the game and it reboots the PC after the Microsoft Movie. I Patch it to 1.2 (latest) and it starts, but reboots my PC after 10 seconds. I decide to use a no cd *.exe to see if it fixes it. No luck. I use a comment in the shortcut target to get it to run "-use11" to make it revert from DirectX 9 to 8.x. I finally play the game and finish it and realize this. The game is built using 3 different rooms and the same 4 enemies! The outdoor combat is great by 95% of the game is running through the same 2 rooms and hallways over and over again! Don't waste you money on this for the single player aspect, it's a multiplayer only game! |

the vehicles are nice, the hitting aliens with rifle-butts is nice. You can see that it was rushed to hit the Xbox release date though, and the PC version only has a few new bits. The Xbox control pad is the best ever. Keyboard and mouse suck.
(worked fine first time for me) |

Good Lord. I'm with wombat. How many times will Counter Strike get compared to other games? I mean, there are hundreds of games out there. I'm sure it was good, but yeah, it really is completely different from Halo. If you're still playing CS, you should branch out a little and try some newer stuff...just for fun. Go ahead...c'mon...you can do it............ |

I am a FPS fan. I play every FPS I can get my hands on. I did not think that Halo was anything special. I was a medicore game that got repetitive real quick. Yes it does a really good physics engine for things, but that does not make the game. Having never played it on the XBox I wont try to compare the two, all my remarkds are based on the PC version. Maybe if this game had not had all the hype I might have thought better of it. As it is there are bettter FPS out there in my opinion.
