Anybody playing this? I've got it installed but I haven't got around to playing it yet. I just finished NWN so this is gonna be my new game for a while. Well, until KOTOR comes out for PC anyway. I hear ToEE is kinda buggy, but overall a good game. A penny for your thoughts?

my take
Graphis: 8 The graphics are pretty good. Great spell effects as well as good character and monster models. The 2d scenery is about on par with baldurs gate 2 imo. Gameplay: 8.5 Turn based combat is the only way to go for me in single player rpgs. Its just adds so many more elements to the game. You can really use some advanced tactics while in combat. Not just rush overpower repeat rinse like bg 1 and 2. The game at its heart is still a dungeon hack. But it is a very fun one at that. Music and Sound effects: 8 Not to big a deal to me. Music is decent and the sound effects get the job done. Sometimes the npcs u talk to there voice changes a tad bit. Not to big of a deal imo. Value: 9 I think its well worth the price. Im having a fun time playing it. Cons: Some bugs. Had to dick around with my refreshrate, to get past the bink movies. Performance sometimes in big battles it gets a little choppy. Overall 8.4

I have just started and have been splitting time with jedi Academy, but I agree with AxByC. Overall I think it is great, I haven't hit any bugs yet or had to mess with the video.
Also this was the best AD&D module ever, even better than the original Ravenloft, IMHO. If you are a D&D fan, this game is a must. ToEE is a classic...

I love D&D, and D&D CRPGs but I never end up playing them more then once, then never touch it again except to uninstall. While I always end up enjoying them the first time through, I just can't warrant spending $80CAD unless I'm sure I'll play a game atleast 2-3 times and I hear TOEE is even more linear then the rest of the D&D CRPGs.
Maybe I'll get it if the price ever goes down in a few years, or if I find out that it's got more replay then the rest of the D&D games, enough to convince me to shell out that much, rather then wait for a price drop.

I will wait for it to come down in price. Still working on NWN.
It looks great though!

I'm thinking about passing on this game, i've seen a lot of ppl say its a great game but it has some bad bugs. I've also heard rumors that Atari won't allow the developer of the game to patch it offically. If thats true, I think I'll pass till an unoffical patch comes out from the developers, kinda like a few Baldur's Gate 2 patches did before Bioware offically released patches to fix a few bugs.
Also, has anyone had trouble with corrupted saves or they mouse not working in game? Those are the 2 bugs i've heard about that are keeping me from spending $50 on this ![]()

I have a buddy who is a game reviewer. He steers me clear of all the big problems. He's gently encouraging me to continue playing console games for the time being. There is no excuse for pushing out a product that will require an immediate patch, or a product that has most of the magical item descriptions missing.

I bought it, but haven't played it yet. I've busy playing player made mods for NWN. Plus I'm waiting for the official patch to come out in the next week or so before I play it. There is a "fan patch" out that solves many of the bugs, plus you use the add/remove to uninstall it when the official patch arrives.

Looks like they are going to be patching the game officially.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/greyh...s_6076403.html That site isn't loading at the moment, but hubby said he just read it on there earlier today. Hopefully it will be working again soon. |

I hope it's good... It's laying next to my bed, bought it an hour ago. I was happy to find it, finding games in English is damn difficult in Taiwan. Haven't even found an English version of Neverwinter Nights yet.
I will play it. Soon. Soon, my precioussssssss.

I've been playing it (I couldn't wait!) using the fan patch. I haven't ran into any bugs that I know of. It's got a high learning curve (even for CRPG vets like me). Once you get going, you can't stop! I played for hours at a time.

We've handled a few unhappy customers at EB regarding this game, saying it was far too buggy and that cutscenes and dialogue were misplaced. Apparently a patch will be released next month. Pity though, I'm no fan of RPG/RTS's but a game like this has a lot of potential, just hope the patch fulfills it.

its very buggy but there is a unofficial patch for it that helps alot. but for some reason the game just didnt catch my intrest i think because its exactly the same as almost every other rpg thats come out in the last few years. i really wish game companys would try making something totaly new.

I got this game for Christmas and have been playing it and enjoying it. A word of caution, don't use this game as your first PC RPG. I'm still trying to figure out why Atari made it possible to go to an area when your party is level one that contains hill giants that can crush you with one wack. It can get frustrating to a rookie RPG'er. On the other hand, Baldur's Gate 1 is an excellent first game someone who wants to get into the genre.
Other notes: the portraits suck, the voices are ok, the story line is great, I think my favorite facet of the game is the turn based battle sequences. I shouldn't have to remind anyone, but I'll say it anyway, save your game often! |

I'm playing through the original TOEE D&D campaign, and was unaware of the game. When I saw this I got all excited because I thought there were others playing the same D&D campaign.
OH WELL.

This is a good game for any hardcore D&D fan. Simply put, this game is the best rendition of D&D into a CRPG so far. It also uses 3.5 ed which is the first game to do so (or at least the first game that I know of). Even for people who don't like D&D, the combat is simply amazing. You have a wealth of options in any round, things like 5 foot step or charge really add to the depth. Fans of turnbased tactical combat should pick up this game.
The graphics are beautiful, the best I've seen in any RPG. Unfortunately, the pre-rendered backgrounds make it extremely hard for users to create new maps and such unlike NWN. Now for the cons, this game is buggy. The unpatched version was completely littered with bugs, most of which a person unfamiliar with D&D wouldn't catch. However, if you get the official and unoffical patches, it's definitely playable. I also wished they had picked a different module or at least fleshed out the story in this one. ToEE is mostly a dungeon crawl and while the original module has tons of background information, the dialogue and story elements in the game are lacking. I blame Atari for this, they set a limit on how much dialogue there could be and it was set way too low. The game is somewhat flawed but I'm looking forward to an expansion or sequel, hopefully it'll lose the problems of the original whilst keeping the awesome combat mechanics.

I must say I like this game too.
Of course I lucked out and found it for $16 at a Sam's Club near my house just a few weekends ago, I went next store to Best Buy and they still wanted $50 so I think i made out good... haven't noticed any bugs yet... but I am not real familiar with D&D games so I might be missing them... DB |
