I think Kojima's whole point of changing the point of view in Sons of Liberty was in part to show that "tactical espionage action" is often put aside by bickering peoples such as some of you who give too much credit to Snake's character. Seeing him from Raiden's point of view was interesting.
As far as the story goes, if Kojima felt it was what he needed to get his story and point across, then more power to him. I'll remain faithful in my belief that he knows what he's doing. I recently played SoL through a second time and the storyline isn't nearly as confusing as I made it up to be the first time around. Anyway. Twin Snakes looks amazing, and whenever I can find myself a job I'm picking up a GC and all the games I've been missing out on. Now Konami just needs to make remakes of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake...or at least port them to GBA.

Alright I'm revamping this thread in honour of E3, because MGS3 was a big name there and just to reward you all for my bumping this thread, here's the wmv version of the mega-long 15 minute trailer that played at said event.

Amazing stuff aye? Apparently those hover things were actually in development during the 60's-70's era but were put aside for some reason or another. MGS3 looks fantastic, I mean meeting up with Ocelot is brilliant and I will really love to see the "goodie" Big Boss fall from grace... gonna be a good one!
Oh, and I got Twin Snakes today, it's so much like the PS1 version it's unbelievable, good stuff though, still need to play it a bit more to see how good it though. p.s. Raiden still sucks. |

I think MGS2 had one of those convoluted soap opera stories, where like at the end Solid snake should have just woke up and it was all a bad dream inflicted by a bullet shot to the head, like he was in a coma. It would also have added to snakes badassosity (I don't care if its not a word, its good enough) the dude could live through a headwound.

I'll tell ya what could have made MGS2 better: replace Raiden with Snake. End of Story. Raiden wasn't as bad as everyone says, but come on...players want to play as Solid Snake. He's the King of Badass, and we want to learn a story about him, not Raiden.
After watching the video that bltzkrieg posted, my hopes for MGS3 are finally rooted. Before I was hesitant about being excited for it...but now I'm really fuckin excited for it. Ocelot is just incredibly cool. Big Boss is awesome as well. I can't wait for this game! -Lasereth

Best.line.ever. I wonder if they're gonna put David Hayter's voice since Big Boss' code name is still Snake. It should be interesting to see. The game looks to be really awesome. Hmm. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - November 15, 2004 Halo 2 - November 9, 2004 (without a doubt) MGS3 - November 2004 Is it just me, or do all three platforms have major releases all within a pretty small timeframe. Well, in any case, I'll be picking up all three by golly!

MGS3 is going to be an awesome experience. I'll buy it if it crashes on the X-Box's shoreline sometime soon after it's released (assuming it's PS2-exclusive right now).

Ok guys, I'm bringing this to the top of the board again because I have some things to consider about the trailer that might either get squashed because it's not important, or could lead us to some important conclusions.
1) If you notice in the trailer, that 'Snake' is using a turret on a mountain side to fight a HIND-D, which, according to a link I found on google, weren't in production until 1976. Now, maybe I'm just nit-picking or being a nerd, but, doesn't it seem inconcievable that a game, based in 1964 could have a vehicle that wasn't put into production until 1976? Even if it was a prototype, that doesn't explain why that have a shitton of them carrying Metal Gear around. 2) Hovercraft? WTF? We don't have damn hovercraft now. How the hell do the Russians in 1964 have fucking hovercraft when we, in 2004 do not? Makes no damn sense. Possible conclusions. Based on the crap that happened at the end of MGS2, and what you see at the beginning of the 15-minute trailer, where Snake says things like "We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad history by its light." Then saying, "We have all the magic of the digital age to do that with. Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing." I'm beginning to see a pattern of things that don't make sense in a realistic retelling of the mission that "made" Big Boss. Maybe I'm overanalyzing. Maybe I'm thinking too much, or trying to figure out what the "big one" that Kojima is gonna pull on us, and you all know that Kojima will pull a "big one" on us, because it isn't enough like last time to have us play as a character other than Snake for 2/3 of the game, instead, Kojima ramps it up a notch by making the 3rd game without Snake in it at all. That's not what bothers me, he revealed this WAAAY before the game came out, and that's what bothers me. The telling of Big Boss' backstory is great and all, but I know that Kojima wouldn't just straight up tell us that "hey fuckers you're not Snake, you're just playing someone who looks and acts like Snake." I guess what I'm getting at is, 1) the technology being used in this game makes no sense for the time period. 2)Snake's mention at the beginning of the trailer of how the "magic of the digital age" makes it possible for "building the future and keeping the past alive one and the same thing" makes this whole thing feel like it's another simulation, VR, or, even worse, a game-long flashback. While not entirely bad, this shakes the very foundation of what MGS has been about up to this point. This game, as many have said, and will continue to say, may change every thing about the MGS universe. Maybe I'm thinking too hard about this, but consider my statements, and if you need the trailer so you too can mull over this mystery, I'll try to provide.

I think it's just one of those Hideo things where he adds in stuff that isn't realistic, like having HIND-Ds back in the 60s and stuff. I believe you play as Big Boss in the 60s, simple as that And we DO have hovercrafts now, the army uses them all the time!!

Proof of hovercrafts like the ones in the trailer plz thx k thanks bye.
You know, hovercrafts like these: NOT these: I'm not saying that you don't play as Big Boss back in the 60's I'm saying that the entire experience with Big Boss might be some kind of "simulation", virtual reality. Only with flaws that make it seem unrealistic, like Hind D's and futuristic hovercraft. If Kojima was using real military advisors who knew their shit about weapons, then why would a MGS game based in 1964 have weapons from 1976 and beyond. Unless 1) these guys have futuristic, prototype crap that no one had ever seen, 2) this is some type of flaw in VR programming continuing out of MGS2, or 3) Kojima is just fucking with us, and being not entirely realistic with his choices of vehicles and stuff like that. I mean there's other shit in this game that doesn't make sense for the time period. Like infrared goggles. I mean *maybe* military technology was that far advanced, and I'm just an idiot and should stop worrying about this kind of stuff so much, but it just seems unlikely that this game really takes place in 1964 in reality.

With that said...I really don't care; whatever makes the game fun will be okay with me. I'd rather it be in modern-times than the 1960's, anyways, so I'll take whatever bit I can get of the future into it.

It could tie into the ploy about how the Patriots have been controlling technology - Russian government could have a similar program running. And if the members of the Patriots are all long dead, that would mean that they could be an AI of some sort - proof that digital technology could've existed for that many years, unknown to the general population.
What I think is that we'll be playing in both the 60's and modern time - we never got to see a close up of Snake while he was around the turrets and hovercraft, so we don't know if it was Big Boss or Solid Snake [lack of eye for reference]. We'll just have to wait and see.

snake broke those handcuffs, now if thats not the diffinative meaning of a badass trained killer, i dont no what is. Snakes superior knowledge of REAL pain and battlefield tatics would over come raidens simulated skills.
I think its snake when hes like 19 or really goddam young, cause on the site its got a pic of the rival. whichs reminds me grey fox, a LOT. and the nemisis looks like big boss.

i like that thought of a virtual 60s world...reminds me of the hype for the second Metal gear solid....Just like we knew nothing about Raiden...maybe only 3/4ths of the game is as virtual big boss and the last is snake after the big boss virtual mission...there are a million possibilities with Kojima at the helm

Snake: a seasoned veteran with years of experience at whooping ass.
Raiden: a young "boy" trained with virtual reality seriousely folks, it's ok if you think raiden is cute or whatever, but we all know Snake would sautee Raiden as a side dish to his serpentine main course. |

Hi,
First off, that ISN'T a HIND-D. Notice how the HIND-D has twin bubble canopies: Now watch the trailer again and look at the canopy... it is a single large, square canopy and the two sections of it run flush with each other. My knowledge of postwar Soviet aircraft is not very good, and my searches on Google don't reveal what type of chopper that is, but it ain't a HIND-D. Second, Infra-Red technology was very well developed by 1964. IR technology was in use in WWII with the Germans who developed it during the war, and it has been used and refined since 1945. I agree on the hovercrafts, though. IMO it would've been much cooler for them to stick to the technology of the time, and that's it. Man, I'd love for them to do a version of MGS during WWII, with perhaps an earlier operative fighting the Germans? That would be kickass! Look at those flame effects! Wow! And was that last guy Raiden? Sure looked like it. Pretty funny on that last part, too. I like that way the guy says, "Kuwabara, Kuwabara..." Thanks, Manga |

If you haven't noticed, none of the games have really been THAT realistic.
Come on, look at Pyscho Mantis. Look at Vulcan Raven, nobody could carry something as huge as that vulcan cannon. And what about the ninja and his exoskeleton? Not to mention the Metal Gears. Wish I had a ps2

Ok guys it's Mr.Deflok's typical "check out this video and jizz your pants" time:
http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault...kikizo_gi.html The opening for the new Metal Gear game, it's perhaps the only game I'm looking forward to for the PS2 this year! Well, actually Jak 3 as well. Anyway, the opening has all the style of the previous Metal Gear games and looks to incorporate more slo-mo action as seen in Twin Snakes (which I loved, and probably am the only one). |

A new MGS3 trailer with english voices! Hayter's back baby! Also, I think that maybe Solid Snake for some reason or another has to relive Big Boss's final mission. I don't think the game will be actually set in the 60's... But anyway, the game looks fucking great! |
