War3x: The Frozen Throne

I got this expansion yesterday, and have played through it. It's about 26 levels (including a bonus chapter) and is pretty impressive. There are new heroes, new units, new structures, new items, new monsters, but only one new cinematic ().

It continues the story pretty much right after RoC left off, and the ending is pretty satisfying as well. Anyone have any more detailed comments? :O

You played through the entire single-player campaign in one day? That's either really impressive, or a really short single-player campaign.

It was about 8-9 hours of gameplay I think, and I started playing it two days ago actually. It's comparable to the amount of content in the original game, though only has three scenarios instead of four.

So far I really like it. To be honest I prefer the missions where you control the hero and a few minions to the base building ones. I hope WoW is more like the hero control missions.

WoW will be somewhat like EverQuest -- it is not another RTS like Warcraft/2/3.

I liked W3, but I'm not interested in ponying up the $40 for the expansion. It wasn't that good a game to spend almost a hundred bucks on. On that note, I saw at my local EB that the small box version is going for more than the collector's edition. ?!

That's the RoC collector's edition -- it doesn't include TFT. TFT itself is about $35 (free shipping from EB, LINK), and is worth the cash imo.

Thanks for the info, though it was unnecessary -- I'm up to date on W3's pricing structure. Having spent $50 on the original I'm not interested in paying $35, if you like, for the expansion. It was a good game, but not a great one. Just didn't have that spark for me.

Well, i'm pretty much finshed with campaign, so, now i'm starting on battle.net. What's your favorite race? Do you have any ladder game tips, build order, heros, strategies?

Playing online is the best part of this game IMO. I haven't found another RTS that is even half as fun to play online. On that note, check out the custom game(mod) rival nations. It's like crack concentrated into video game form.

The best thing you can do to improve your strategy is to download replays at a site like warcraftstrategy.com (just save them in your replays folder in the warcraft directory). And IMO going random is the most enjoyable way to play. Gives your enemy an element of suprise.

hmm... in that case most newbies are thrown off by tier 2 air right now. Makes for some guilty feelings but you can usually kick someones ass with early air.

You can rush with undead. Just get a crypt lord as your first hero, select beetles as his skill and grab some ghouls. Then head off to the other persons base. It is wierd to be able to rush with undead.

Orc is my favorite race to play with online, and i really love the neutral heroes especially the naga sea witch and the dark ranger(charm is really cool with very short down time). I cant seem to get good with the humans on an online game but everybody seems to love em. the tier 2 air has been really good to me since one of my fave strategies includes wyverns but it took awhile to get them when they were tier 3.

I really like the story so far, i think i almost done though, i am like on chapter 6 with the undead. I wish there was more cinematics though. And i am glad that they made the hard setting actually a challenge this time. But normal is a joke.

That does sound good. I like the warden better than the POM but that does sound like a nice strat. I may have to try it.

WC3 Frozen Throne.. a little dissapointing

I still love the game. WC3 i think is one of the best games out there.

But I hate to say this expansion Ive noticed a bit of a slip in the ultra-high quality I've come to expect from Blizzard.

For instance I've found a lot of the New Artwork Sub-Par. Some of the new player owned shops, such as the orcs, are super lame. The new seige units are way worse then the orignals.. and the obsidian statures are the stupest thing I ever saw.

Also, the single player campaign I think they totally forgot that WC is supposed to be an rts.. they tried to turn the game into a half-baked diablo or sometihng.

OK, maybe I'm being nitpicky.. cause I still fo enjoy playing on battlenet. I jsut hope this isnt the beginning of a decline in blizzards work.

hey, i just bought frozen throne, but since my comp crashed i cant get it to install since WC3 is no longer in the registry. which means i have to re-install WC3 even though it is on the hard drive. This was the part where i was asking about illegal activities, but Ganguro edited me

the other where arthas walked up to the top of the frozen throne

and the in game one: illidan and arthas fought

I thought the expansion was very fun. The only thing that kinda got annoying was the fact that they kept using the having to control multiple armies at once (like in battle.net if your partner leaves). I thought that was over-used.

i am current one the blood elf campaign
and so far this game has some of the best mission design i ve seen in a RTS game.
i just love the mission where the blood elf guy and the naga girl have to rescue illidan from meive. u only get to control 3 heros (include the panda i got from the bonus mission) and where ur minnions fight the eneminies
as for the general quality, the games good, but not great
i really hate the new units. most are just used for mana burn. which just replaces the rows of the undead hunter

Ya i use that 3 ladies of death tip now sometimes when i play night elf. Thats when i dont use my warden, keeper of the grove, naga witch combo. I love the keeper of the groves ultimate. Can really save you in a pinch. Does anyone here like the fairy dragons? i have been using them a little bit cuz their mana flare ability is pretty cool especially against undead and human.

And to whoever said that the obsidian statues suck, thats crap cuz the obsidian statues are great. Have two of them set to auto heal and one with your necros to heal mana, and have a bunch in destroyer form and they rule. And in a pinch you could just turn the ones that are still statues into destroyers. They are my favorite new unit by far.

there are actually four campaigns, with the fourth being the bonus orc campaign (which is more fun then then other three anyways + blizzard are gonna release more episodes of that sooner or later).

The ending of FT was very similiar to RoC (think cliffhanger with many unresolved story elements) and this annoyed me, because its unlikely we will find out what happens for a long time. imo, its only worth the purchase if you plan to play this a lot online. Otherwise, don't bother.

I have not been playing the campaign that much so I did not read all the posts here. I did not want to spoil anything.

I have played a whole bunch online with some friends of mine and Random Teamates. I really like it better than TFT. I have always been a macro person and I like to have varied units. Massing casters all the time was getting really old. I like this game, while there has been more focus on tier 1, I really like the fact that there are more counters to different things.

Overall I have been having a lot of fun although I get beat by 12 year olds a lot. I am a slow old man. msg me anytime you see me on line. same user name.

Take a look at the campaign menu -- only the end sequence is really a cinematic. The others are in-game scripted sequences. Cinematics are pre-rendered high quality "movies", whereas the in-game scripted sequences are just in-game characters moved around like puppets.

There is the one at the beginning though, that is a high quality cinematic. You dont have to do anything to see it though so i see what you are saying.
