I have a gamecube.

I bought it around Christmas the first year it was out. I have had no problems whatsoever with my console, which is more than I can say about my X-box.

I guess to agree on dubbing it's game catalogue as "pretty shitty" depends on what games you like.

I have a wide selection of games that I play on the gamecube.

Super Mario Sunshine
Legend of Zelda: Windwaker
Luigi's Mansion
Metroid Prime
Star Fox
Pikmin
Super Smash Bros. Melee
I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

I forgot to mention that the new F-Zero game is coming and so is a re-vamped version of Metal Gear Solid along with a new Mario racing game.

I have a GC too and love it! and at 99 smackers it's a steal. Get the following games:
Zelda
Metroid (probably only if you're a fan, otherwise it's so-so)
Viewtiful Joe
Mario Kart (November)
Soul Caliber (with exclusive Link character)
Super Smash Brothers is fun for 3 or more for just two stick with Soul Caliber
SSX 3 (unless you have PS2 then get it for that)
Eternal Darkness ($15 from gamestore.ign.com)

I have to agree that the game selection isn't TOO great but the ones that exist are very high quality. Also, I have a bunch of other games but I can't think of all of them right now.
Also, if you're in to GameBoy games at all then you can get the GBA player and attach it to your GC and it'll play all GB games. I hope to see one arrive at Christmas time.
I have a PS2, Mac and new home-built PC and I play games on all of them but I still love my GC

What kind of games are you interested in? Knowing this could help us make a list of ones you might like.

One game not mentioned is Animal Crossing. Beautiful in its simplicity. Nintendo has the rights to the Resident Evil games, if you're interested in that. Don't worry about the selection right now. It's bound to get better in the future.

i dont know how ANYONE can say that GameCube has shitty games. It has most of anything you can find on ps2, or xbox. But it has many games that are only from nintendo, ie zelda metroid mario, and these games are awesome. plus, you can hook up a gameboy advance player and play all your favorite gba games on your tv!

Just picked up a GC for my little cousins for a whopping $79.00.
It was used, but all the parts were there and it did function.

Gamecube has a bunch of shitty games, but so does every other console out there. Choosing the good games is what makes a console good or bad. Play all of the bad games, and you'll hate the console. Play the good ones, and you'll love it. http://www.ign.com

IGN is the key. Don't play anything that gets below 8.5 and you won't be disappointed. If you want another source, get a subscription to Electronic Gaming Monthly. Best damn gaming magazine out there; I've had a subscription for nearly 10 years.

Gamecube is a great console to have as long as you also have a PS2 or XBox. Gamecube dosen't have a lot of great games but it has a small amount of excellent games. (Zelda, Mario, Metroid Prime, etc.) I definately recommend it for only $99.

gamecube is a good system IMO it has quite a few games that enjoy and never get tired of such as: super smash bros, animal crossing, windwaker, metroid prime, mariokart doubledash (coming soon), XG3, Fzero, soul caliber, mario sunshine, and luigi's mansion. I also just recently got my Gameboy Advance adapter and am able to play all of those on a screen now. i recommend it. on top of all of that every game shigeru has ever produced is usually named game of the year.

If you have intresest in the classic Nintendo game families like Mario and Zelda, the Cube is it. That's where it is the killer. If not, I see no reason to get one over an Xbox or PS/2.

The Xbox is the most PC-like of them (beeing a PC basically) in the game feeling, and possibly the most advanced. Less games for kids on Xbox.

The PS/2 though is rock solid with its huge selection of games to choose from for all ages.

My choice is Xbox, since I like only "adult" games and like to tweak it.

gamecube rocks

I have a gamecube and I LOVE it!!!! I'll even give you a heads up on the good games.

Super Smash Bros. Melee - A MUST!
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter - Pretty Good
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - Also Pretty Good
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - Sweet
Crazy Taxi - fun to play when you need a quickie
Gauntlet Legend - fun to play when you're drunk with your friends
Baulders Gate - fun to play with your other geek friend

there's others, but that'll start ya off

p.s. the wireless controllers are expensive, but i reccomend them, or at least one for yourself

as far as the performance goes. (and this is just what ive read about it, dont quote me) I hear the game cube has both the xbox and ps2 beat in all areas except cpu. It suprised me too for such a small console and small CDs, whether its true or not i dunno. I play my friends game cube alot and i like it. The games are OK. I have a ps2 myself, i just like it better, but the cube is not a bad console

Wherever you read that posted wrong info. The GC has more on-board RAM than the PS2, but other than that, it's inferior to the other consoles. It doesn't really matter, though. The gaming industry has shown over the years that technological superiority means nothing about success. Look at the PS1 versus the N64. Ha ha.

Be very wary of the newest TMNT game. If you have a PC or a friend with one, download the demo. It's the same game that's out for GC, PS2, XBox. I found it really dissappointing. The graphics were nice, but there was no skill or enjoyment when playing. All you do is mash 1 button for hitting the baddies. And worst of all, major gaming faux paux (sp?): THE BADDIES "APPEAR" OUT OF NOWHERE. I hate that in a game where appearing enemies don't make sense. You're other choices are top notch though

Why go back to console games when you have a PC? Isnt there an emulator or something you can use instead?

I have a GC, but find myself to hooked on the computer, so I rarely play it. I have the Zelda, but I got bored with the large amount of sea travel, not there for me. I've tried Metroid, and its amazing. I just think i'd rather invest the money upgrading my computer, sorry, I really wanna get Viewtiful Joe though. At 99 bucks its a steal though, (got mine for christmas ) so whatever floats your boat.

I have a Gamecube, and I LOOOVE it. But whether or not you'll like it will depend on the kind of games you like. Like most people have said, if you like the Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc, you'll love it. If not, you might be better off with another console.

I have right now

Zelda: Windwaker - Awesome game
Zelda: Ocarnia of Time - Originally on the N64, my fav game
Smash Bros Melee - Great game, LOTS of fun with 2 or more people
Metroid Prime - Another great game. Loved it
Mario Sunshine - Also a good game, but not THAT great
Soul Caliber II - Cool fighting game
Soon to get Mario Kart: Double Dash (REALLY excited about getting this one) and possibly F-Zero GX
