Dungeons and Dragons
How many here play/played Dungeons and Dragons??
|
i play, see my post about setting up a game on IRC...
i dont have a link for it... but its on this part of TFP! go... LOOK!!! NOW!!! |
I play DND, actually DM an IRC session and play as a character in another. Both are on hold for the summer though.
It's fun stuff, kinda tedious at times. It's actually too fighting based for my taste. I'm currently playing vampire the masquerade table top with some friends. It seems to be more roleplaying based and the rules are not set in stone, so the game progressive pretty dynamically. |
I used to play DnD though honestly fantasy isn't my favorite genre to RPG. I've played a lot more futuristic or superhero games, like Cyberpunk 2020, Heroes Unlimited, Villians and Vigilantes, Star Wars RPG, etc. I've been collecting the core Call of Cthulhu books and I'm wanting to start a game of that IRL, though for some reason SLA Industries has been piquing my interest for the past few weeks...
|
I've played, but it's tough to find a good DM to play with. I'd DM myself, but I really suck at it.
|
Used to play in the '70s and '80s. Prob havent played in 10yrs. Still have a bunch of books and stuff though.
|
havent played for 10 years, but definatley have great memories from it.
It would be cool (or may yet be cool) to have a well developed online virtual world to play with others again. Technology is almost there. THe new wave of video cards coming out in Dec are going to open such doors, if developers can put something decent out. |
I play alot of P&P rpgs, D&D one of them, but I'm sorta pissed about the whole 3.5 bullshit
|
I used to play AD&D (2nd Edition) quite a bit..haven't played in a while but got onto a couple of online games and am currently playing in the Tomb of Velix game on this board...Love playing the game.
|
Never played it. Actually i played some cool game board/chess type of thing with little metal units and you moved around the board looking for treasure, and avoiding the dragon. But i was like 6.
|
I play.. I haven't even look at 3.5 & I don't know if I want to. I hear they fixed rangers.. So perhaps I might incorporate 3.5 rangers into 3.0. but damn 3.5...... ughness
I like Supers RPGs as well:) |

So you get bored and give up. *speaking personally* |
Neverwinter Nights is good. The map designer can play too and let the computer take over.
I know their is a DM option too but I've never seen it used. |
I've tried GMing.. I simply cannot control everyone and everything at the same time... I'd love to, but I just can't do it.
BUT, I do know what you mean Marius :(:( |
I play, or I should say "run", quite a number of different PnP games. I really like what was done with D&D in 3.0, though I think the 3.5 thing is blatant customer base abuse.
I just wish that anyone else in my group could run worth a crp. Heck, I'd be happy if they could just run for any respectable length of time. |
Can someone please explain to someone who stoped playing back at 2nd edition (started before 1st Edition AD&D) what this 3.5 business is about?
|
3.5 balanced the game ALOT.
One of the major improvements was the Ranger class.Which was very much needed imo. They changed spells to make them reasonable.(I dunno about some of these...)They gimped the most powerful ones.Example:Harm...Polymorph Other.. Bascially encounter breaking spells that players used alot. Try going to Wizards of the Coast website for more info Quick thing..."Harm" was a spell that had the potential to take a target's HP down to 1d4 on a failed saving throw.Imagine a dragon with 300+hp failing his save? The "impossible" encounter just got dropped to trivial. That was harm before the change...pretty powerful no? That wasnt the complete listing for the spell...but in a nutshell..that was it. |
Played/Ran lots of AD&D. Even sell the stuff.
I like Superhero RPGS (Champions) more though. Only so many times you can go into a dungeon to rescue the (fill in the blank) before it gets old. |
I play D&D sometimes. I recently picked up Neverwinter Nights to participate in a D&D gaming session using NWN. The DM made a module where it's pretty much vanilla D&D. If you die, no respawning at the Temple of Tyr. Stuff like that.
|
i used to play....that shit is addictive...i remeber plaing with my buddy one night till the sun came up lol.....but i kinda grew outta it now
|
I played a little D&D when I was like 11 or 12 years old with my cousin and a couple other friends... But we mainly played this RPG/board game called Dragonstrike, and it was really cool. We'd always argue over who would get to be the warrior... I usually settled for thief, but I remember being wizard a couple times and kicking a lot of ass.
|
Oh man, I play Dnd, hackmaster, Vampire the masquerade, werewolf the apocalypse, rifts and I’m writing my own now
|
How do you roll a 12 sided dice in cyberspace?
|
Damed, I'm a Pen and Paper RPG freak. It sort of comes with the whole uber nerd package I got going in my life right now. Anyway, In my apartment there are 5 PnP rpg's running that meet weekly. All of the people who live here are sort of connoisseurs too. DnD is a classic and a staple. The 3.5 revisions were mostly good, but I think it was really stupid of them to release the 3.5 monstrous manual simultaneously. It means they didn't have a chance to find the *new* balance issues and deal with them. Its also a flaming case of customer abuse. re-buying the whole set of books was not something most people were planing on doing.
On a related note, I must say that I love white wolf for having the balls to end their world(s) vampire/werewolf/mage has been harping on the Apocalypse for a long time, and its a glimmer of the company I once loved to have the balls to kill the whole WoD line. (I haven't exactly liked the last three games they put out, and there 3rd edition revisions while containing some good rule changes are pacifying and homogenizing the formerly quite dark content) I was sort of wondering where the RPGers were on TFP, Now I see that they are simply drowning in discussion of computer games. Sort of sad really. Oh also I might as well ask, does anyone know where I can get a print copy of "warlock: the black spiral"? |

//roll-DiceX-SidesY Where X == the number of dice to roll AND Y == the Number of Sides on the Dice :D:D There are other means, but thats off the top of my head. Apokx: Harm was extremely broken in 3.0. I was in a 20th lvl campaign... and we face a hideosly powerful Red Dragon... The GM forgot something when we started fighting and remembered in the middle.... the Dragon was REALLY powerful.. oh look.. HARM!.. I shoot it with my arrow afterwords.. and its dead...... So yeah, I'm glad they fixed it (but i haven't gotten 3.5 so i don't know what it is now ;)) |
You want something broken?
using the first level spell "true strike" you can produce a really sick item. craft wondrous item (say gloves) with true strike continuously active. To make it takes a 3rd level wiz 2 days, 80xp and 1000 gold, and it has a market price of 2000 gold. It gives +20 to all attacks. The good news is that few GM's are will see that and not balk and ban it. It works in the rules though. (I think it still works in 3.5) |
Here's a little trick I love.
Level 1 Ranger spell:"Hunter's Mercy"(Forgotten Realms) First arrow shot(Every Round) is an automatic hit, followed by a check to see if the hit was critical. Now,with some specialty classes, you can get the crit modifier on a bow up to x5/x6. 100+ Damage with a single crit is truly impressive.(With a strong enough bow/arrows) I have never had a character do so much damage in a round..ever. This isnt as easy to make as the gloves mind you,but this combined with the new ranger class changes makes my head spin. (I used this tactic with a 3.0 ranger..plus some other prestige archer classes like deepwood sniper *I think*) If you want I can dig up the char sheet and attach the info :p |
Nice.. we need a thread started up about this..
I could do that much dmg.. sure i was 22... but.. Acidic Bow -- D6 Dmg (for the arrow) plues 3d6 acid dmg... 9d6 on a crit...... now... SNEAK ATTACK! ;) (oh yeah i play rogues) |
Ok I found my Hobgoblin archer.
He was 10/10/4/5/0 Ranger/Deepwood Sniper/Fighter/Order of the Bow He was rank 0 Deity.(After the campaign) I was using a Mighty Composite Longbow: Keen/Ghost Touch/ Holy/Unholy Hunter's Mercy and +8/+5 Str. Bracers of Archery +2 hit/+1 damage. With class abilities I had Range+100 Consistent Aim 3/Day. Take Aim (+4 Stationary Target) Bow Crit -Crit Modifier increased to x5 Ranged Attack did +3d6 sneak attack damage. Had all the bow related feats. Had an Endless Quiver of Elhonna... So thats my equipment..time for damage calcs... Full Attack round was +63/58/53/48/63/63 1d8+32 +1d6 shock/2d6 holy/2d6 unholy chaotic +3d6/15d6 on a crit...4d10 shock on a crit. Crit 18-20 x5 So assuming I landed every arrow... Shot#1 = 257 damage #2=54 #3=54 #4=54 #5=54 #6=54 Grand Total = 527 (average damage, not maxed) |
Man...strolling down memory lane with this one. I used to play - but it has been about 21 years. Wouldn't surprise me if I still have the books, etc. somewhere in the attic, though.
|
Been playing 25 years.
Have over $2000 worth of RPG stuff. Was President of the RPG club in High School. Yes, you could say that I was geek. But then I'd have to cut you in half with a +5 Bastard Sword. No offense.;) |
aye, mostly online stuff
|

But seriously... who was'nt president of the RPG club in Highschool? I know I was. I have always said embrace your geekyness, be proud of it. |
We didn't have an RPG Club in my school. Most of the schools I went to were on military bases (Dad was in the Army) and there "RPG" meant "Rocket Propelled Grenade". Very few schools would allow clubs revolving around explosive devices...
|
We didnt' have an rpg club in school..or I'd be like..beyond President I'd be the Uberdiety
|
Was a DM in high school- late 70's. Man that was fun-sippin warm sake and playin all night.
Wasn't very popular with the ladies then heh |
At my peak my sophomore year of college I was running one and playing in four games a week. Two Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, DM Created World and Mage.
Now I am down to one Forgotten Realms game once a month, but I also goto 2 different LARPs frequently since there is not much PnP gaming anymore. If you think the President of your RPG club is the Ubergeek, then they need to step aside as that title belongs to the guys running the LARPs :) The amount of hours they put into rules and setup alone qualifies them for the title. Let alone the closet full of foam weapons and elf ears. |
I still play :) That may change when Face of Mankind comes out though - it's supposed to be totally focussed on roleplaying, with new storylines being thought up (by players, too) all the time, so players wont be stuck with the ones preprogrammed into any game..
If it will become what I hope, it will be cool. Release only in the first quarter of 2004 though, but there's a beta in october (www.faceofmankind.com) |
I love DnD, and play my own similar version on AIM.
|
Never played the actual game, but I love Balders gate, Icewind dale, KOTOR, etc.
