Used to D&D, as far back as 15 years ago. We switched to EarthDawn, then that group split down to 3 about 5 years back, got it back up to a half-dozen, we play Deadlands:HOE when we can. Recently one of the better GMs in the group picked up some 3rd book called Ghost World or something, about a city of the dead. He's looking to get us back into D&D with it. We'll see...

Moonduck 09-08-2003 08:02 AM

So, are you Unknown Kadath? And, if so, do you also play CoC? =)

eris 09-08-2003 02:45 PM

Used to play back in the 80's. We played pretty much a Monty Hall scene - I think my 10th level cleric had multiple artifacts if I remember correctly.

Made me pick up Everquest before I made myself stop a few years back. Damn addictive stuff....

Man, I haven't heard Champions for a long time! I use to play the hell out of it. Custom superheros.

I use to play D&D a lot, back in the day. Now I play NWN. Not the same, but it's getting there. Close enough for me.

Moonduck 09-09-2003 08:59 AM

Champions, HERO System, just had another edition come out. Really good stuff.

DonnieBoy 02-28-2004 09:25 PM

I use to play pen and paper in middle school, we also played a teenage mutant ninja turtles pnp game too... heh I loved pnp games and if I could find a online group to play with I probably would again...

Nikilidstrom 02-29-2004 10:18 AM

I still play D&D and Shadowrun, but only once or twice a month. The group I play in has been together since grade school, but we are all grown up now, and live in different parts of the state. We've probably tried betwen 20-30 rpgs over the years, and the only one that ever came close to being as high quality as D&D and Shadowrun was Rifts. I do have to admit, whether its because of the group or the game, D&D has become too hack n' slash for my taste. Everybody seems to gravitate towards power gamer, with people scouring the books for some loop hole that will make their character uber. Well, enough of my rambling :)

Journeyman 01-30-2005 10:30 PM

Does anyone happen to know where I can get the video of the kids playing DND animated in 3D with various game characters, where the one kid keeps asking about Mountain Dew?

Xenomorph 01-30-2005 10:59 PM

That video was a hidden feature in a thoroughly mediocre RPG that came out way early in the life of the PS2 called "Summoner". I got more enjoyment out of the 90-odd seconds it lasted than the actual game.

Don't know where to find it online, but that might help your search.

FngKestrel 01-31-2005 12:49 AM

It's Summoner Geeks and it was originally a skit by the Dead Alewives. It's available here . I'd embed it into this post, but the file is like 26 megs and not very happy when I try to embed it.

I know their is a DM option too but I've never seen it used.

When I watched people DM it usually turned into the DM just casting buffs on everyone during fights.

Charlatan 01-31-2005 04:40 AM

Played AD&D when I was in High School... haven't had that many opportuities to play it since... some of my friends were trying to get a game together a few months back but our schedules just couldn't be worked out...

Most people don't DM well for Neverwinter Nights. NWN was made to eliminate the need for a DM, meaning the primary function of a DM is to help facilitate good roleplay. There just aren't that many serious roleplayers and DM's out there. The good news though, is if you're interested in that kind of thing, there's a website: www.neverwinterconnections.com

Slavakion 01-31-2005 11:03 AM

Wish I could play. I have the basis of a group, but our schedules conflict constantly.

Lebell 01-31-2005 11:10 AM

I'm in a group that plays using Monty Cook's Arcana Unearthed.

It has turned out to be a lot of fun.

Before that, I hadn't played in 20 years or so.

Unfortunately, I threw out all my AD&D original player's books a couple of years ago, figuring I would never need them again :(

Coppertop 01-31-2005 02:09 PM

Man, I've still got a shitload of sourcebooks for 2nd edition if anyone is interested in them. I've contemplated just selling the lot on ebay but have held onto them because "you never know."

Kadath 01-31-2005 02:38 PM

Coppertop: any campaign sourcebooks? I have most of the class/race books, the PHB, the DMG, and the MM(was my favorite book once they bound it instead of that three ring binder), but what I want are settings books and adventures and so forth, because we play third now.

Coppertop 01-31-2005 02:58 PM

I am at work at the moment, but will check out the titles for sure when I get home - about 4 hours from now. I can tell you that I have pretty much everything Ravenloft related.

GoldenOuroboros 01-31-2005 04:09 PM

Have never gotten into D&D, only watched the movie and played NWN heh.. Rifts is the only one I've played that my interest lasted longer than a couple of weeks. Just the environment appeals to me better, prefer te sci-fi apocalypse setting.

I've GM'd a couple of games so far, mainly because the GM that usually runs our games is getting tired of the job and wants to play himself.. heh.. So I'm still learning, I'm gravitating towards giving more xp for roleplaying than anything, that seems to bring out some interesting conversations and plots..

:)

FngKestrel 01-31-2005 04:28 PM

Rifts was fun when I played it with dormmates. Although, my GM was kind of a jerk. I made a comment during character creation about why anyone would pick singing as a skill (non-bard class) and he made a point of having an NPC ask me to sing.

Zephyr66 01-31-2005 05:05 PM

I'm currently playing a campaign in Keith Baker's Eberron campaign setting, I'm a huge D&D nerd. been playing for years.

miggity99 01-31-2005 06:08 PM

I've been playing D&D for about six months now. It's unfortunate that I'm so busy, I wish I could play more.

My current character is a schizophrenic dwarf fighter that keeps a teddy bear.

I'm a total closet freak with so many ideas but no one I know in my area is interested.
I love Eberron to the point of Keith Baker overthrowing whatever god I had before.

To show my freakishness, I convert almost every movie character into a DnD character WHILE watching the movie.

Riddick: Male Meanad Barbarian 4 Rogue 8 Ranger 4

Phantom of the Opera: Male Human Bard 6 Expert 6

Blade: Male Half-Vampire Human Fighter 16
(Fighter rather than Ranger because he has no problems kicking anyone's ass.)

My location is posted. SPEAK TO ME.

ranger 02-02-2005 09:33 AM

You guys are talking about AD&D? I mean no offense but move on up! The best ever is 3.5 edition!

ranger 02-02-2005 09:34 AM

And if anyone gets the chance check out Mongoose Publishing's class guides for some serious roleplaying ideas and some cool skills.

Sorry for the double post, didn't know it went through.

Spicy McHaggis 02-02-2005 10:33 AM

I used to play D&D and Harnworld back in middle and high school, but didn't really play at all in my 20s.

Now I get my geek on once a year at Origins. It's a huge gaming convention in Columbus Ohio every July. It's the only time of year I get to roleplay and it's lots of fun to do it with hundreds of other gamers.

Zephyr66 02-02-2005 10:34 AM

I play 3.5, Eberron Style

kurtisj 02-02-2005 06:59 PM

i play occasionally, its a good time, we dick around a lot and prolly dont take it as seriously as most people though

Dizzet 02-02-2005 11:27 PM

I play DnD 3,5 as an narrol cleric/lich...

LutherMac 02-03-2005 04:25 PM

I've been looking to start playing again for years. Just can't find a group that gets together on a regular basis, and if we can, everyone wants to play, and not DM. I've had an idea for a character for years now that I've been waiting to test out.... guess I've still got to be patient.

neonscreamer 02-03-2005 05:53 PM

I play D&D (everything from basic to 3rd edition)

Additionally, I attend LARP events through WAR and PRO.

On top of that, I play every RPG I can get my hands on (offline only, I don't like online RPGs that well).

aberkok 02-04-2005 12:41 PM

I just started playing before the Christmas break and am now involved in 3 campaigns, one of which I DM. I'm having a lot of fun playing and designing my campaign, but alas, only have a session about every 2 weeks. Adult responsibilities will do that.

My main character is a 4th level gnomish rogue named Saradas Brownlocke. Starting to think about what prestige class to take...

Homey_V 02-04-2005 01:00 PM

Good times. I've been an RPG geek for years. I've played D&D for various campaigns... I played a really cool Ravenloft one. I Love Shadowrun, but dont get to play it that often. The old D6 StarWars RPG has a soft spot in my heart and I've been meaning to dally in either Vampire or Werewolf... Or both...

Man.. I am such a geek.

Xenomorph 02-04-2005 03:32 PM

I'm currently running a weekly pen and paper RPG with the Warcraft campaign setting for D&D 3.5. It's a lot of fun, especially since so many of us are in to World of Warcraft now. I'm in a gaming group that usually plays at least once a week. There's something about pen and papering that computers just can't replicate, even when they introduce interaction with lots of other players.

Already fourth?! Did you start at one? We've been in our campaign for seven or eight months, meeting almost every week, and I (along with the rest of the party) am reaching for sixth. Then again, our DM is admittedly stingy with rewards. It makes the occasional gauntlets or ring especially nice, but man, do I want my undead bane weapon and Sacred Purifier prestige class.

Our DM gave us double XP until we got to level 5 to speed things up. We got to level 5 in 4 weeks. It all depends on how the DM wants to handle XP.

Meaning that in four weeks you got five thousand experience points(doubled to ten), or an average of 1,250 a session apiece. How many are in your group?

4, a rogue, barbarian, cleric, and wizard

nohitters 02-10-2005 06:44 AM

I've never actually had the opportunity to play D n D. My friends played it all the time and I didn't want to just ask if i could start playing with them. I didn't wanna piss them off. I've heard its soooo cool though. I've played videogames related to it but I've been told there is no comparison for the original RPG.
