Needless to say, I hope this game sucks so I don't get divorced.

Fuck.
I just scorched my shorts! Seriously, that has to be the best cinematic trailer I've seen. Let's hope they have a game to match it.

Has anyone seen any good gameplay footage yet? The one thing that concerns me is that on the footage they showed a while ago (the "first-ever" preview) the character movement was all jerky. I was assuming it's because they didn't optimize things, or they were using a crappy machine or something. I'm hoping it looks much more fluid for real.

I haven't seen any new footage since Baraka. It seems like they're still working on classes. The latest bounty hunter blog got me all excited!
But I'm trying not to think about it too much, along with Guild Wars 2. Neither have release dates. And this is Bioware we're talking about, so we could have to wait another two years. :/ That and its their first MMO. |

I'm very excited, but also abit apprehensive about the supposed "microtransaction" pricing for the system instead of monthly subscription. Well, hell I don't like to pay any additional fees once I've bought the game. I'd rather pay more up front than getting it for free and being forced to pay per use..

While this movie is really cool, I'd love to see how the game actually plays.

SW:KotOR was a good game...excellent, even. But I'm not buying into an MMO that looks like that. I hope they're improving the animations. I want something that doesn't look like flip-book rag dolls flapping at each other. I want something immersive.

Oh yeah. Heck, WoW came out almost 5 years ago and its animations are still good, so an MMO that comes out today should be waaay ahead of that. I died a little on the inside when they said they are making the game cartoony like WoW instead of realistic looking. But the animations are where it's at, you're right.

I'm fine with "cartoony." It's all about being aesthetically pleasing. I've seen cartoony more beautiful than attempts at realistic. Animation and style is key. We know WoW-like visuals work, because many are still okay with an engine that's going on, what, 5 years old? And we should also expect that WoW-like should look better than WoW considering the improvements in game engines and the growth of machine capabilities of the average user over the last half-decade.
I've downloaded a trial of LoTR Online because I'm a fan of the world, and plus I wanted to see what a more current MMO looks like. I've had some tech problems logging in, but I've had a taste. It looks really nice, but I need to see more. The only bit I've seen was at night amongst buildings. I hope to play it more on the weekend before my 10 days are up. Anyway, the graphics there aren't necessarily realistic either, but they look far nicer than WoW.

Here is Game Trailer's parsed commentary on the cinematic trailer. There are some interesting tidbits in here. There are a few things you probably missed.

honestly, know why I'm excited for this? Because its NOT about vader's era. I can't stand that era of star wars anymore. its thoroughly exhausted. Which is why KotOR was so exciting and fresh. new characters, new reason for interest. While I wish they had finished the storyline for KotOR, TOR should be agreat new change, with a cool new storyline. whoot. So even if the game isn't innovative and jaw dropping, the story will be kickass. for me at least. *points to self* this nerdy lady likes her stories. KOTOR had a better story than the SW prequels. Heck the story was as good as the original 3.

embedded for ya It's really early alpha footage and probably going to be removed pretty quick because Bioware probably doesn't consider it representative of the end product. It's true though, Graphics and gameplay change so much during this point in development. I'm surprised it looks as good as it does.

Thanks, cybermike.
At this point, I'm only concerned about MMO-related gameplay aspects, immersion, and just how big, varied, and in-depth the world will be. When I log in, I want to feel like I'm entering a galaxy far, far away.

I'd want to be a Jedi, I think.
But with 5 classes yet to be revealed, who knows? Quote:

This does look interesting, but my gameplay habits are not compatible with MMORPGs. I can't justify paying a monthly subscription for a game, because I know that I will lose interest within a limited timeframe.
I would've preferred a new addition to the KotOR franchise. Or even a completed KotOR 2.
