Ivan Drago in Rocky for the SMS. You essentially had no chance in hell unless you beat the target hits-per-second on the speed bag in the pre-bout training session. IMPOSSIBLE with the standard controller since it took a marathon button-mashing session to win. I ended up finally whipping the guy after I bought the stick controller, wrapped my hand in a sock to reduce friction, and buzzed like mad for 60 seconds over the buttons to beat the speed bag target.
Looking back on it now, I can't imagine what my parents thought I would have thought I was doing if they'd walked in on me doing this.

so far Ultimecia is the only one I've had a hard time killing - she seriously gave me a run for my money the 3 times that I've played FFVIII

Grunty from banjo-kaz was alot of fun to battle, complete with witty rhyming lines and all. If you liked the original BK try get banjo-tooie, its got a really nice reply feature so you can battle or replay your fav parts of the game without having to play it right over again.
Hardest boss? I would say dessan from JK2. After flying through the game on Padawan i decided to up the anti and put it on jedi master. Cant anyone say "lightning whore" didnt even get close to him, he just fried me over and over.

I was never able to beat Dracula in Castlevania. I always got to his second form, but never could beat him. I must also agree on Omega Pirate in Metroid Prime. It wasn't so much him as it was the annoying pirates that appear once you get him to disappear.

GILL from Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike on Dreamcast.
This is one tough guy at the hardest setting. The best move of the game, Resurection. If his super bar was filled and you knocked him out, he would use it and fill up his life bar to full. Now I was able to beat him with a few charaters. On dreamcast you could unlock him, only after you beat him with EVERY single fighter. That was something that I couldn't do without the game shark. |

Battletoads was also very hard for me, especially the vehicle levels. I still have nightmares about trying to avoid obstacles whilst riding a hoverbike or some crazy chess piece. The level I never beat in Battletoads in Battlemaniacs was where you ride some mining cart and there's a guy chasing you with a buzzsaw so if you slow down too much you die. Now I feel like playing that game again heh.

Hardest bosses ever:
Metroid Prime from Metroid Prime. That thing is a bitch... I can't even begin to count the amount of hours I've put into that boss alone. Meta-Ridley and Omega Pirate I had NO trouble with, but Prime? Fuuuuck.. maybe the hardest boss of all time in my book. Ruby weapon from FF7. I smoked emerald pretty easily, but Ruby was the one I was stuck on for the longest time. Bosses in RPGs aren't ever really hard for me because my guys are well built by the time I get to em, but even if your guys were lv 99, the weapons still kicked your ass. It was actually something you had to THINK about in order to beat it. Each boss in Devil May Cry was hard. Each one took many many many many MANY tries... I don't really count NES games because those bosses weren't genuinely hard, they were just cheap. Like "Hey, I'm gonna randomly toss a shitload of projectiles your way. You have a 1/5 chance in dodging it." as opposed to something intuitive without an obvious pattern.

I'll go with Emerald Weapon from FFVII (I didn't have the underwater materia, meaning the 20 minute time limit kept things interesting...) as the hardest boss I've ever fought. It took forever to get the items and leveling I needed for that...
Other bosses I liked a lot are the Bowser's from all the Mario games (1,3, Super Mario World and Super Mario 64, specifically). I thought they all required at least a decent amount of skill. |

i still haven't beat the very first boss fight in the downloadable pack for ninja gaiden .. the one that teaches you how to fight bosses. i had a bitch of a time in the regular game, i guess because i'm really not that bright and i just couldn't figure out how not to get my ass handed to me, and the addon doesn't even let me try.

Colorado Avs in NHL 2003.
Just kidding. Hated the Bionic Commando boss. That speaks to me of crappy game design. Good boss fights that come to mind, the 5 invisible guys you fight in the elevator in MGS, Mephistopheles in Hordes of Underdark. Not particularly hard battles, but well done in their implementation and creativity. |

both of those battletoads levels were tough!!! holy hell did they waste precious years of my young life away.
Turtles In Time with throwing the ninjas into the screen. That is one fuckin' hard boss single player on the hardest difficulty. Overwhelmed with footninja that block every single fucking attack... you finally get one then you make the mistake of bashing him into the other ninjas killing them all and having nothing to throw into the screen for a few more seconds while shredder brings out the heavy artillery.. AUGH! hehe.

I never have a hard time with RPG bosses. It's always a matter of needing to level or just having the right strategy. Action/Adventure games on the other hand...that's a matter of skill and luck. Most of the bosses from DMC gave me 2 times the trouble because not only did you have to beat them, but you had to beat them well enough to get a good rank. Although I think the hardest boss I've ever come across is Judah from Silent Bomber. I've had that game for years and I've given up trying to beat him.

I didn't read the thread, but I'm pretty sure this one hasn't been mentioned yet:
Rockman & Forte (aka Megaman & Bass in the US, although AFAIK the game was never released here).. the hardest megaman game in existence. One of the bosses near the end of the game has you jumping along tiny floating platforms while the screen is quickly scrolling forward, similar to the dragon fight in MM2, only about 100x more hardcore and difficult. You are fighting this huge floating robot thing. It has a couple different attacks, one of them being a giant lazer that knocks you off instantly if it hits (you have to time your jumps PERFECTLY while still staying on the platforms). It also shoots out these bubble things that float towards you; if you touch one, the screen flashes white for like 3 seconds (think flashbang) and you have to continue jumping along the platforms totally blind. Not to mention the fact that the weak spot on the boss is really tiny and requires excellent aerial shooting accuracy. Holy shit it's hard. |

That TMNT Turtles in Time fight with shredder took forever (in fact me and my friend popped it in the other day to play some old games and got stuck on that) until i remembered that all u had to do was punch the foot once and then hold the button down and press down...
Contra bosses.... ALL THE FRIGGIN BOSSES IN IKARUGA omg I cant even get passed the third level... Gunstar Heroes bosses |

Yeah, i agree with cybermike. Xenosaga has probably the highest challenge lvl of any rpg i've palyed yet....even some of the normal fights are just tough as heck.
But for HardesBoss ever? Rockzilla hit the nail on the head, Zeromus from final fantasy 2 beat me over and over and over again. oh and gortexfogg, don't give up seymor flux can be beat, you have to learn his pattern and summon aeons to take the big hits and stuff. i think it took me like 4-5 times. one cheap way to make boss fights easier in that game is to get all your aeons overdrive full, then just go into the battle and pull out some whoop ass. |

Mike Tyson, in Mike Tysons Punch out, I cannot last 45 seconds against him and I try. You cannot block any of his punches and when he hits you it knocks you down every time
Apollo in Final Fantasy Legends II, maybee i was not at a high enough level but the the first 8 rounds he is hard to hit and after that he just brings the pain with flare and mashume every other turn. Both do at least 500 damage a pop and flare attackes everyone. I wasted a lot of my childhood on him

Jesus CHRIST.
I'm so goddamn pissed at Metroid Prime. STILL CAN'T BEAT THE LAST BOSS. I've been at this spot for TWO FUCKING YEARS and I *STILL* can't beat it! This is crazy. I stand by my earlier post: This is by far the HARDEST end boss I've ever fought in my life in any video game. Period. The worst part is it has TWO forms and no way in hell for you to heal in between em. The first one doesn't even have a pattern.. just tosses about 20 projectiles your way, a beam, two floating orbs, and all this crazy shit that you can't POSSIBLY avoid... While you sit there and try to blow up the floating orbs before they hit you, the thing is running around launching missiles at you, then fires it's beam.. only to do it all over again, so you never really get a chance to lay into it. When you do, it's a good few hits, then it changes weaknesses. Then you get your life down to maybe 2 or 3 energy tanks only to find out it has a fuckin FINAL form. Oh yeah, because I'm supposed to do all this shit on such little energy, huh? Thennnnnn the goddamn thing is invisible. But you put on your xray or thermal vision (still can't tell which one to use) and it's STILL invisible. After you smack it around, then it starts lauching all the annoying little fucking metroids at you. Give me a BREAK. The little bastard ones you have to fire at 50 times only to have it break into TWO MORE. Great. Almost makes me not even want to play it. It's a NUISANCE to have it setup like this. You spend a good 10-15 minutes fighting the first form, so if ya DIE, you have to do all that shit over again. I am about to kick someone in the goddamn head. [/rant] [edit1] (1 hr later) This game is FUCKED UP. So I finally got to the essense of prime (the last form) with more than half of my energy tanks filled up (that shit won't happen again in a million years). The only way to hit the damn thing is when it createz the phazon puddles. I don't know if it's a glitch in the randomization or what, but guess what it did NOT do? Oh, that's right. Create the puddles. So for seriously 7 minutes straight I'm sitting here jumping around, dodging the fire rings waiting for it to make the puddles : nothing. That's the only way you can beat it, so what the hell? [edit2] (2 hrs later) FINALLY beat the goddamn thing! HAH. But barely... if I would've been hit once more, I would've died. I had 2 energy left. TWO! But uh... I really have no idea how I did it. The last few times, it spawns those ultra metroids and they simply take too much attention to kill. 2 of em split into 4 other ones, by the time you kill them, the puddle is gone. I hope the sequel isn't anything ridiculous like that boss was..
