What 3D care are YOU using?

I upgraded my Geforce 4 Ti4200 64MB to a Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB.

Let me say this, it was WELL worth the money*. The only hard-core** 3D accelerated game that I play is Battlefield 1942. Gawd dam, it made such a difference. I can now turn everything up to full detail and run the game smoothly without any frame drops.

*I paid $173 for mine and now after 2-3 weeks it drops to $133. Dammit I'm pissed. Prices are according to Pricegrabber.com or Newegg.com

**I know, BF1942 isn't the more hardcore card user since there are games such as Unreal 2, Quake 3, etc etc that are the games used for benchmarks.

I did a page here on my website just to help you guys and gals out if you need to upgrade.

GoldenOuroboros 06-29-2003 04:28 PM

I got a GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb

It works for me at the mo.. when I've finished saving up for what I'm saving for I'll think of upgrading :D

bemick 06-29-2003 04:29 PM

I'm still stuck with a GeForce 3 :(

The_Dude 06-29-2003 04:37 PM

geforce 4 mx440 128mb.

i wish i hadnt bought this! about 2 months after i build the pc, i see this card out fx 5200 or so for about 99 bucks! damn!

YaWhateva 06-29-2003 05:44 PM

the FX 5200 is about on par with a Geforce 3 not worth the money.

Oh I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128MB and am planning to upgrade to either a Radeon 9700 or 9800.

DHS 06-29-2003 06:04 PM

Ati Radeon 9500 Pro...

TerresqueÜ 06-29-2003 06:10 PM

Nvidia GF4 ti-4200 I'm pleased with it...

Conclamo Ludus 06-29-2003 06:13 PM

Hercules version of the Radeon 9700 Pro. Been very pleased with it. It's my first rig that I actually put together myself. Its got a really wicked looking copper fan but it faces the down so you can't see it in my window. :(

sandeep 06-29-2003 07:07 PM

When I bought my Radeon 9000 Pro 64meg card, the 9800 was just about to be released.

I paid $200 CAD for my card, and i'm quite happy with it. I can't afford to spend three or four hundred bucks on a new video card every few months. (although I'd love to be able to)

jerkstore 06-30-2003 12:22 AM

I'm totally wishing I had something decent...I'm still on a Radeon All-in-Wonder (yes, the original). If money were no object a 9700 AIW would be mine...

mrquackers 06-30-2003 02:06 AM

This machine? GeForce 4 Ti 4600. Second PC? GeForce 3. Third? ATI Radeon 9700 All in Wonder.

About to purchase? Radeon 9800 AIW

I'm something of a graphics whore. :)

Wombat 06-30-2003 03:33 AM

Still have a GF2 GTS Pro. It does the trick. :) I'll probably upgrade later this year.

zer010gic 06-30-2003 05:33 AM

I have a geforce 4 Ti4600 and it works for me well atleast right now

shalafi 06-30-2003 07:53 AM

damn now i feel all inadequate and stuff w/ my trust old tnt2 hehe

ZeroDoom 06-30-2003 08:29 AM

I have a first day Radeon 9700 pro it took me 3 days to get it running right but it was well worth the work.

zcwrx 06-30-2003 10:51 AM

9800pro 128mb here.. W00t w00t!

Lasereth 06-30-2003 12:38 PM

GeForce 4 TI 4200 128 MB version, 4x AGP. I'm happy with it, even though I'll probably upgrade to a GeForce FX 5900 or Radeon 9800 Pro pretty soon.

I am displeased. Came with the computer though and will be the next thing to be upgraded.

butthead 06-30-2003 03:45 PM

Before that i had a voodoo2

lol @ sli mode

i pity the foos who busted their ass to have two voodoo2 cards for what it was worth at the time, but i then again we dont have the games we do now

Blankfore12 06-30-2003 04:44 PM

GeForce3 Ti200 128mb.... hoping for a new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro!

Nikilidstrom 06-30-2003 05:07 PM

Still clunking along with my GF 2 Ti, but amazingly enough, it is just now begining to show its age. I was going to upgrade today, but it was a toss up between new card or 120gb hard drive, and the drive won.

Hydralisk 06-30-2003 05:18 PM

AIW Radeon 9700 pro

they really need to make the installation easier. or better yet, totally automated.

Mr.Deflok 06-30-2003 05:35 PM

LeadTek GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb

Will be going go a 9700 Pro or an FX5900 later on... unless something else tickles my fancy.

GakFace 06-30-2003 07:58 PM

I just purchase a 9600 at comp-usa for like $220 with 2 year warranty, when I get more money I think I may say it's broken and pay the difference... but the 9600 is VERY pleasing.... almost as good as a lady friend.... almost.

Justin 07-01-2003 07:03 PM

I have a Albatron ti4600 128mb. I'm actually glad of getting that instead of a gfx.

R_one 07-01-2003 10:12 PM

Geforce4 Mx 440 64mb

it's alright. I won't get the full effect of using it until i get a better monitor. My 15 inch LCD isnt cutting it.

zztzed 07-02-2003 08:19 AM

Radeon 8500. The original 64MB one. I got it right after it was released (luckily, it was released shortly before my birthday).

It is beginning to show its age a bit (especially in UT2k3), but I'll probably stick with it until HL2 comes out.

GeForce4 ti4200 64 MB

Miserlou 07-02-2003 02:20 PM

GeForce3...I don't know what type other than that it is a Gainward. I got it before all this "Ti200, Ti500" stuff came out. I guess mine is somewhere in the middle of the two. I currently would like to get a new one.

mrquackers 07-02-2003 04:07 PM

As an FYI, the GeForce FX 5900 hit the streets today. So hopefully, I'll be changing my answer to this in a week or so.

heyal256 07-02-2003 05:29 PM

Geforce 4 ti4200 128MB. i would still be using my Kyro 2 based card but there were a few games that just NEEDED to have hardware t&l that made me upgrade. I prob won't upgrade untill I buy a whole new system (I don't play a lot of the action games that require a top of the line card).

eVga GeForce 4 w/ 64mb

Wyodiver33 07-02-2003 06:19 PM

I have an ATI 9500 Pro. I love the card. I replaced a Visiontek Geforce 3 ti 200 with a PNY Geforce 4 ti 4200 64 MB, had it a week, took it back and got the 9500 Pro.

Dredd2099 07-02-2003 07:50 PM

Radeon 9700 Pro
had it couple of months already
looking to upgrade or maybe sidegrade to a AIW card though

Mr Scorcex 07-07-2003 07:44 AM

I bought a Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB for 60 bucks last year. I woulda gotten a better card but:
A. I'm poor and cheap. Couldn't really afford it.
B. It wouldn't have made much sense to put a brand new Radeon 9700 Pro 128 MB into my 733 Intel III box. I still don't get the full potential of my current video card with my crappy processor.

Knolan Fairdale 07-07-2003 09:33 PM

I'm using a GeForce 2 Ti 64 MB DDR that I bought last summer to replace my second aging Voodoo3. Since Windows XP's OpenGL support doesn't stoop so low as to support antiquated 3DFX hardware, I had to upgrade or face going back down to 98 or ME to play the current games, like Return to Castle Wolfenstein; hell no, I wouldn't go.

I'm running with a cheap card I got at an even cheaper price, but so far I can run anything I feel like playing, I using a GeForce4 MX 440.

ATI Rage Pro 8 MB baby, but this is my backup computer, waiting for a power supply that should be here on Thursday...

Other computer has a RADEON 8500 LE, cause I'm poor and can't get anything better. It does the job just fine, though.

Chytrak 07-20-2003 08:43 PM

GeForce FX 5800 Ultra. Have not had any problems with it at all. I see the popular card is the 9700 or 9800, but I never have been a fan of ATI. My card works fine with NeverWinter Nights and that's about all I play anymore. Maybe some UT2k3 or WC3 once in a while, which it also handles very well.

Great little card for the price ($150) especially when compared to the GeForce3 Ti200 I upgraded from.

Sadly I spent my money on a vacuum cleaner, er FX-5800u. I wish I would of saved my money and spent it on the 5900u, even though controversy says it's a bad card, i've never had problems with nvidia. I stick to what works for me. Glad to find out that my card will work well in the new dx9 games (doom3/hl2).

Radeon 8500 and it finally works well and is stable with most of the newer drivers. Every game I have works on it, but when I got it sure was buggy! Now I am saving my pennies to get the 9800 now that ATI has shown me they care about drivers unlike they used to. They really have turned around their support to the good side lately. If anyone needs tips on ATI stuff I reccomend www.rage3d.com for the latest news and great forums to post vcard questions.

ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. I went through the trouble of unlocking it too so I can OC it when games start to push my rig to the limit. Right now I get blazing FPS with all games so I have no need to OC.
