madsenj37 07-23-2003 10:21 PM

Radeon 8500, mac edition.

07-23-2003 10:32 PM

Geforce4 TI4200. I longed for pixel shading back in the day.

bussman 07-24-2003 10:44 AM

Geforce 3 ti 200, I'll probably wait another year or so and get a geforce 4

Parabola 07-24-2003 04:55 PM

I have a Radeon 8500 right now. I'm waiting for the next wave of cards to come out so I can get the current ones fairly cheap then again I might go crazy and but the best I can.

NastyMan 07-24-2003 09:26 PM

Radeon 9700 Pro
Actually it's a Tyan Tachyon but has the Radeon 9700 chip it but it's even better than the regular radeon because of it's options and can overclock waayyy faster than a regular ol' ATI 9700

epracmetcon 07-24-2003 11:19 PM

radeon 9500 non pro, modded and OC to 9700 pro, best 130 bux ive ever spent on a computer part for the performance.

yippiekiyeh 07-25-2003 12:04 AM

Currently using a GeForce4200 128meg 8x agp card. It works well, and when I'm feeling brave, or when the temperatures are lower (not in the summertime) then I enjoy overclocking the sucker.

CyCo PL 07-25-2003 12:28 AM

Geforce4 Ti4200 128mb

moof 07-25-2003 09:06 AM

My trusty GeForce2 still works fine for my needs ;) the again the games I play are still a generation or two old ;)

gibz0r 07-25-2003 06:10 PM

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro!

Supradog 07-25-2003 08:41 PM

cougr 07-25-2003 09:34 PM

I have 2 asus geforce ti4200s

chewybaca96 07-26-2003 12:46 AM

I'm in the proccess of RMAing my GF4 TI4800, damn fan died and overheated. so i'm using a GF2 i had laying around.

Let me say this, it was WELL worth the money*. The only hard-core** 3D accelerated game that I play is Battlefield 1942. Gawd dam, it made such a difference. I can now turn everything up to full detail and run the game smoothly without any frame drops.

*I paid $173 for mine and now after 2-3 weeks it drops to $133. Dammit I'm pissed. Prices are according to Pricegrabber.com or Newegg.com

**I know, BF1942 isn't the more hardcore card user since there are games such as Unreal 2, Quake 3, etc etc that are the games used for benchmarks.

I did a page here on my website just to help you guys and gals out if you need to upgrade.

Wow sorry you got so raped on the price, but hey if your happy with the product you should feel that you paid what its worth and not dwell at all over that.

However, Battlefield uses the Unreal 2003 engine, and the ut2k3 engine is the most advanced 3d engine out today if i'm not mistaken much more so than say quake 3! as you mentioned.

HL2 is comming out soon and so is that Stalker game and then to be owned by all Doom3 will be relased and Quake4 using the doom3 engine so there will be plent of games to use your card to the fullets, but don't dog bf graphix they are top notch.

The.Lunatic 07-28-2003 11:42 AM

Oh yeah gf3 ti500 btw

Soon to be the next card that actually performs! Fx was such a flop in my opinion i hope they get it out by christmas that way i can get it on a after christmas day sale for nothing :D

ace81385 07-28-2003 11:45 AM

Radeon 9500 pro+ its good shit

jbm1x 07-28-2003 11:50 AM

Radeon something, I'm too much of a newb to know the numbers, or cause it game with my computer I never saw it's box and I'm not sure how to find out.

It has the TV connecter thing but I can't get it to work.

Speed_Gibson 07-28-2003 06:26 PM

currently have an (dying I think) ATI AIW 7500 - sucks for games, but not a problem here as I have played maybe 5 minutes of games in the 3 months.

I do use the video/TV capture card for my VCR and as a potential TV I never ever watch, so a good replacement is going to cost me.

Gainward GF4 Ti4200

No plans on upgrading just yet, but I might have to depending on how well Star Wars Galaxies run on my system when I try it later this week.

Ralvek 07-29-2003 07:23 PM

GeForce 4 Ti4600 128mb

kel 07-29-2003 07:38 PM

Geforce 256 (the original)

Running on a pentium III 450mhz
It farking blows, but I can program in openGL and D3d fine as long as I don't use any of the newer extensions.

tectec 07-29-2003 11:10 PM

gripe time

I have a sweet laptop, P4M 2.4, 512 ram.. Mobility Radeon M6.
This graphics card sucks and has limited/dog slow compatibility with any new games. Watch out for these. I wish i couldve gotten an nVidia or something else.

The newer Radeons and desktop Radeons are quality though. I was just disappointed that my top of the line laptop got its ass kicked by games like C&C generals and Warcraft3. It took much time to find a decent set of drivers.

Exodus 07-30-2003 01:30 AM

I really need to upgrade! But my old GF2 400 does OK for what it is.

cliche 07-30-2003 11:42 AM

Ti4200 64Mb is very nice (clocked faster than 128Mb as well!) Hasn't had any problems for me yet - but I'm not a hardcore gamer and only bought it because my Matrox G400 broke!

3zos 07-30-2003 12:57 PM

i have a geforce 4, and i don't think it was ever fast :'(

3zos 07-30-2003 01:03 PM

to be sure, the above mentioned postee has a gf4 ti 4600 running on a mac. all the explaination you need ;)

i run on a radeon 8500, fast for just about every game out _now_, as long as you know how to tweak/mess with drivers.

BF1942 uses its own proprietary engine, coded by DICE. its actually quite a system hog, i might venture to say more than ut2k3, but only because ut2k3 the game doesnt really max out the capabilities of the engine.

My trusty desktop here is just an intigrated intel crap. My new desktop is a Geforce 4 128mb

CrazyIntent 07-30-2003 05:46 PM

GeForce2 MX 64mb...eh, it plays warcraft III fine

AxByC 07-30-2003 08:47 PM

I use a ATi 9800 128 mb. Im pretty happy with it. upgraded from a 9700 non pro modded to pro speeds.

acidburn 07-31-2003 08:05 PM

GF4 Ti4200 64mb and I can say I'm damn happy with it, but that may change once Doom 3 and Half Life 2 come out :) ...

YaWhateva 07-31-2003 09:39 PM

for anyone that has a Visiontek Geforce 4, the fans on the heatsinks like to die, so watch out for that. I dont know if this goes for all the Ti's or just the 4200's but my 4200 and two of my friend's 4200's fans died all about the same time. I think we all bought the card like 4-5 months before the fans died. Just a heads up.

McPimpenheimer 08-01-2003 08:23 PM

A Visiontek GeForce 3 Ti200, back during that Post-Thanksgiving sale a year and a half ago. Now that I have a job, I'm going to keep saving my money and holding out until Half-Life 2 rolls around... Or unless the Radeon 9800 non-pro comes down enough in price.

obediah 08-01-2003 10:37 PM

9700 PRO

around second from the top ... as always for me. Usually the right price:performance for me.

tronims 08-01-2003 10:53 PM

I am using a All in Wonder radeon 7200 or such right now but just placed my order for a 9800 NP 128MB.

propaganda 08-01-2003 11:00 PM

You all should brace yourselves before reading what kind of card I have
Intel 82810e and it totally integrated so I can't upgrade or run two video cards.

tweekman 08-02-2003 03:05 PM

downstairs PC has been using a ti 4600 and has ran every game perfectly, my rooms PC is using one of nvidas FX cards, not sure what its called though.

ningato 08-03-2003 03:12 AM

I just got a new system with the ati 9800 pro 128 in it. I have it on the same monitor I used with my old gforce 4 card. The ATI just has a better picture quality. Even at the same resolutions and even in normal desktop display.

fartre 08-04-2003 04:56 PM

ASUS 128Meg Ti4200 cuz it was cheap and it came with MORROWIND!

next up some ATI action when they drop into the *moderately rediculous* price range.

It's a shame that VOODOO computers is a customer of mine (I make some of the "tattoos" and graphics for their computers here in calgary) but i cannot afford their stuff

Looften 08-04-2003 05:21 PM

ATI 9800 Pro. Love it. I jumped the nVidia bandwagon for a while. No particular reason. Had a GF2 Ultra as my last card (previous machine.)

have you ever had any problems with the smartgart function with your card?

Mine always reports my card at 4x AGP, when I know full well that it's an 8x card.

I know this is the wrong area to be bringing up a technical issue, but I felt that nature of the thread semi-warranted it.

ni42 02-03-2004 09:31 PM

All in Wonder 9800 pro
i upgraded from gforce 2 mx.
i paid about $800 CDN inculdeing shipping and such. this is when it had just come out.

Leadtek GeForce FX 5900 128MB

SiNai 02-03-2004 10:18 PM

SiS 128MB. Bad choice- Framerates are good but it renders weird..

I am thinking about the Radeon 9700 pro or the GeForce mentioned above..

viper11885 02-03-2004 10:23 PM

Main Computer: ATI AIW 8500DV. Does everything I need including games. Also has a ton of features for other things. Great card.

Laptop: Nvidia Geforce 4 4200 Go. Another great card. Works on any current game out right now and does a good job.

Confederate 02-04-2004 09:00 PM

I have an Nvidia 64 mb vard, and a 16 meg ATI

Mastershredder 02-09-2004 05:09 PM

ATI Radeon 8500 with 64 megs of ram. It was $300 when I bought it... God I want a 9800 XT :(

bltzkriegmcanon 02-09-2004 05:24 PM

Dude, you should check out newegg. Today they're doing a sale for Sapphire 9800 Pro - $219. Fuckin' 219 for a 9800 Pro. I know it's not the XT, but believe me, the scores are relatively close, and for that price, you'd be insane not to at least look at it.

n0b 02-10-2004 08:16 PM

Saphire Radeon 9600 pro... my roommate just got the 9800 pro since it came down in price... grr

bltzkriegmcanon 02-10-2004 08:58 PM

ya win some ya lose some guy. The 9600 Pro is still a decent card, though. It'll run most modern and future games really well, so don't fret. However, it probably lacks in the old benchmarking department, but that's not the biggest deal in the world.

nanofever 02-10-2004 09:15 PM

Currently a Geforce2 MX440 PCI, in two or three days it will be an FX5700U.

Are you sure I can't persuade you get a GeForce FX 5900? :) They're only a few dollars more depending on where you're ordering, and they deliver incredible performance. May as well go with a high-end if you're gonna spend $150+!

Destrox 02-11-2004 08:08 AM

Currently imho, the best GF4 you can buy.

Main Computer:
Gainward GF4-Ti4600 750XP Golden Sample 128MB
Love it, runs anything out there at the momment.

Office Computer:
Gainward GF3-Ti500 Golden Sample 64MB
(Notice a trend, this brand IS the best imho.)

Old ass computer:
Nvidia Viper 330
This baby was able to play half-life, it deserves a medal.

I'll be buying a new one this spring when the next generation cards come out. Pci-Express baby :D

Stiltzkin 02-11-2004 08:47 AM

I am poor, the best I could afford without having people scream at me is the Radeon 9600 xt. It runs stuff pretty nice. :)

Memphis 02-11-2004 02:56 PM

Newegg no longer sells 5900 non-ultras, I'm pissed about it but what am I going to do ?

Lasereth 02-11-2004 04:59 PM

Yeah, NewEgg does sell 5900 non-Ultras. There's one there for $209 right now. :) You're probably thinking about the 9800 non-Pros, but they're inferior to the 5900 non-Ultra, so it doesn't really matter.

SiNai 02-11-2004 05:26 PM

I just bought a FX 5900 SE from newegg. Best for money in my opinion, $189. I'm excited..

Radeon 9700 Pro. Unfortunately it's hobbled by a 1.33 Tbird right now, but I aim to rectify that within a couple of months with a new Athlon 64 system. I could go ahead and get a 9800XT with the new system, but I think it's probably wiser to just keep the 9700 Pro for now, and spend the money on the next-gen ATI card when it comes out.

sailor 02-14-2004 09:16 AM

A Radeon 8500. The original 64Mb one.

I know its pretty old, but it sure as hell still runs every game I can throw at it at 1024x768 (which is the native resolution of my monitor, so it cant go any higher). I have yet to find a game that it couldnt handle.

Im planning on building a new machine this summer. I will upgrade it then.
