There's something you need to know about the call of Duty series. They have 2 developers working on different games. Infinity ward, Developer of the great COD1, COD2, and COD4 then you have Treyarch, the Developer of COD3 COD2:big red one, Tony Hawk Pro skater, 2-3 spiderman games and Minority Report...
COD: World at War is developed by the Treyarch... I'm not saying it's going to suck, but if history tells me anything, I can't see it being as good as COD4. I'm waiting for COD6 being developed by Infinity Ward ![]() Online coop does make every game better though ![]()

If it was Infinity Ward I would have no doubt that William Peterson would find semen samples all over my XBox controller, but in this case he might have to settle for saliva.

Ugh, I've always thought of the cod series the other way around. Played cod2:bro, cod3 for xbox, the got it for the 360. My brother has 4 for pc, but it's awful, die way too much from random 'nades and I hateeee the kill cam sometimes, ruins legit sniping spots. I prefer treyarch, their games were better because the lack of killcams. Looking forward to this world at war though, even though I haven't been playing games so much lately, would be fun, especially with co-op since I find games more fun when you play with other people.

I just played the beta for the first time. It's really cool, but hard for me. It's the first time I've every played Call of Duty anything. I like the multiplayer team aspect of it, which is why I tried it. I need some practice.
Looks, sounds, and feels amazing though. Anyone else play it yet?

We've already gotten past WWII. Look at the Tom Clancy series. There are also many war games that take place in ancient times (e.g. Total War series).
Unless by this you mean you'd like to see other games like this one but set in WWI or the Korean War or Vietnam or the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. You bring up a good point, but I think the preoccupation with WWII is its large scale...and its timing: we have many records of the war, the quality and quantity of which is unprecedented. Combine these two elements and you have yourself all kinds of material for video games. Personally I'd like to see a large-scale high-quality game covering WWI. Until then (unless there is one I don't know about), I'm looking at this game because I like the multiplayer setup. I've also played a demo of the Brothers in Arms series and really liked the gameplay. But I wasn't sure if it was sustainable in its enjoyment, so I've yet to pick one up.

I played Call of Duty 4 at a friends house and I just couldn't put down the controller! I really need to just go and buy the game instead of waiting to play it when I go to her house, LOL! I have a PS3 system but I haven't bought many games for it yet.

I thought about pre-ordering it, but I just don't have the cash now. I'm sure the ol' lady will grab it for me for Christmas.
I'm super excited about the zombie nazi level(s) after the main story is beat! I also like the fact that it has co-op play, though I've never played through the story of a game over the internet.

Hey speaking of, if you like sniping, I am getting back into the hosting world and running a sniper-only COD5 server with custom maps. My clan has 2 mappers and maybe 3 so we'll be churning out some very good maps. The ones we made for RTCW, COD and COD2 were the stuff of legend . Maps will be sided and you'll be hunting for heads, not bebopping around like on a run-n-gun server.
We're old school in personality, no kiddie shit. We don't filter anything and we give people shit for kicks....in a friendly way, of course ![]() :::: ACID REFLUX SNIPER RALLY :::: News for updates on when the rental begins, what the TS server will be, etc.

So, this game is friggin' amazing! First of all, the "Dogs of War" that you can call in after (I think) 7 kills in a row is one of the most interesting and horrific things I've ever seen in a war game.
Secondly, Treyarch basically used CoD4 and made some mods to it. CoD4 was awesome and this one is equally so. Very, very cool!

I couldn't wait for Christmas, so I took a bunch of games into Gamestop so I could pick this one up. I'm glad that I did. I heard a lot of bullshit about Treyarch and how this game was going to suck before anyone had played it, and those people are all playing this game now and eating their words. I still haven't played too much of the story, and haven't even tried co-op yet, but what I have played is phenomenal and the online is just as good as COD4 was.

I totally need to wait till I'm moved into my new place to get this. I fear for my productivity.
COD5 plus Left 4 Dead? Tough time to be painting 1000sq ft of apartment and boxing up my house!

I'm having huge problems with Crash-to-Desktop. Unplayable at the moment.
Seriously... how do you spend 12months developing to release the game only to spend time on patches after release?

Seaver, that's why I pretty much don't do PC gaming anymore. Consoles = no CTD/no BSoD. *shrug* Sad but true...

If you've never coded on a game, you wouldn't understand. After a while, people see things they want, security fixes have to be applied so, for instance in some older quake engine games, someone can't come in and paste a huge block of text in chat and crash the game with a buffer overflow, etc. In COD2 they had to increase gamestate size so we could run more than a couple of custom maps without crashing the client connection. A 16k gamestate should have never been allowed to hit the shelves anyways...that's infinity ward's fault. I much prefer treyarch (I believe they are the old gray matter of RTCW fame) over IW. They did ok on COD4, except they took weapon control away. /slaps forehead

So I finally got the game (after hosting it for a week...ugh) and I LIKE IT.
I tried sniping on a map called seelow and it was awesome. Here's a screenshot: ![]() It's dark and had a brutal feel. I can't wait to see custom maps for this game.
