Why I hate PC Gaming: Unlocalized Error cannot play game
Okay, I loved COD4 and it brought bear to me to play the rest of the series. I have completed COD, and COD2. I'm now trying to play COD: United Offensive.
The trailer plays, the activisiona and grey matter slates play... but when it gets to the menu it reads: Unlocalized Content and doesn't let me play anything. I select menus, it goes to submenus and it still says unlocalized. I can't locate anything for help on this in the internet forums, I find people stating the same problem but no response for help. This is why I hate to play games on PCs. I've spent the better part of an hour, downloading, redownloading, checking, validating, updating my drivers, looking for patches. Seriously this is retarded. I only did this much work for beer, drugs, or sex. anyone have any ideas? WinXP, dual monitor on 1 7900GT, 2.0Ghz Intel 2Gb RAM

Wow, I am constantly purchasing games off of Steam, I find it to be way more convenient that buying it from the store. And when I get my new computer I can just log into steam and let my games re-install over night.
I have never had a problem with steam before, I sure hope you get it solved. |

Shot in the dark perhaps...
Apps are sometimes coded so that they display text in different languages depending on the localization of your system. What are your regional options and languages set to? Perhaps your version of the game (via steam - does it know where you are? does ti have localisation options?) doesn't have the content to display a version localized to your system. You could try switching location to US or UK or something via control panel.

COD, and COD2 are localized fine I assume. since UF uses the COD engine, I'd assume they be the same.
I don't get any opportunity to make any configuration changes on installation. Steam just installs it.

Probably a dead-end then. As a desperate last bid attempt it might be worth changing your windows location and language though. Hope you get it fixed anyhow.

I don't have any ideas to help but I can offer my sympathies. I just went through something similar when I D/L SimSocieties. Had to download it twice, download the patch twice, update my video card drivers, update DirectX, update to .NET 3.5. Took me close to 6 hours to get the silly thing running.

Try installing the 1.5 patch then the GOTY patch on top of that as stated here:
http://forums.filefront.com/cod-prob...r-no-more.html I think your error could be caused by a missing/incomplete pak file even though you redownloaded. Try starting the server executable to see if you get errors on it. You probably already googled and found this answer but someone suggested starting the install program and the game in compatibility mode for an earlier version on windows. They had problems because of a 64-bit windows. I think most of the people who get the error have a pirated copy but you could actually try to get a no-cd executable to see if this fixes your problem. |
