Zack & Wiki (Wii) - Point & Click Adventure - Why arent you playing it yet?
Background: Quote:
Features * Make full use of the unique Wii Remote controller to explore and interact with the environment * Seven themed stages each including multiple sub-areas * Jungle ruins, ice temple, airship, ancient castle and more * More than 20 sub-areas to explore * Variety of distinct bosses * More than 35 enemies to encounter and outwit * More than 80 objects to manipulate * More than 500 items to search for and collect * More than 20 hours of gameplay Critical Acclaim: *IGN - 9/10 *Nintendo Power - 9/10 *Gamespot - 8.5/10 *1-Up - 9/10 _______________________ When this first came out (Oct 23), I had completely overlooked it. I was never really big into the point and click adventure genre, but I caught wind of it from some people on the internet hyping it up, and I decided to give it a spin. From the get-go I was surprised about how good it is. Great humor, Pure puzzle solving, no real combat in the convention sense. Its a two button game, theres the pointer which you use to select things, and the cancel button, and thats it. Interacting with items requires a motion depending on the item and circumstance. So in the classic adventure game, you would just click USE key on door, for instance. In Zack & Wiki, you would have to hold the remote as if it were a key and actually put it in and twist it the right way. Gameplay video (It was hard to find one that wasnt just a promo trailer, but I think this one is a good example of what actually happens in-game). Despite its kiddy looking visuals, it actually gets really hard, and would probably eat most kids alive. Its eases you into the dificulty though, its not hard at the start. Theres also an optional system of getting hints and reviving you if you die, if things get too hard for you. It hurts your score though, so I never use it. Its only $39.99 too. Can be enjoyed by anyone. |

I've always thought this game looks amazing, and i love point and click adventures. I'm absolutely flabber gasted that developers haven't thought about making more for the wii. Imagine something of Grim Fandango's calibre on the wii...it'd be awesome. Especially with motion sensitive puzzles. I'm definitel picking this game up when i find it cheap and after i've completed the Orange Box, CoD4 and Assassins Creed... Has anyone else actually played it?

It's not just this game, I wait for price drops on all my games. I just can't keep up so I've fallen so far behind. I'm playing through the Virtual Console N64 games that I never got around to playing when they were new. It's just very rare that I buy a new game.

IGN called it the best game that no one played. I still don't own a Wii, but I'm getting one as soon as they're available again after Xmas. This is one of the top games on my list! Check out the gameplay...this is why!
http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=23351 I have high hopes for the Wii over the next while in terms of groundbreaking gameplay. There will be a lot of developers focusing on this system considering how many are being sold. I can't wait to see what the Wii will bring. I can't wait to get mine!

I have it, it's one of the best games on Wii. Definitely within the top three of third-party titles. I think the whole motion sensing aspect of it is kind of cheesy and gimmicky (oh wow, it saws when I move the wiimote), but it's a great puzzle game. I wouldn't really consider it an "adventure" game, mainly because it's divided up into short levels, rather than one large streaming world where you unlock new areas by solving things.
Honestly though, if you own a Wii, and you want a good game that's NOT mario/zelda/metroid, grab this game. |

I don't think I'm going to be one of those game-accumulators.
Just got the Wii less than two weeks ago and bought Super Mario Galaxy (more for the kids, but I'm working on it ) and Zack & Wiki based on the Doc's recommendation and some reviews. It took me a while to figure out what I was expected to do, but passed several levels (?) this past weekend. I find I'm really enjoying it and although I'd consider myself hooked, I might spend 2 or 3 hours on it throughout the weekend, but don't really have time during the week. It's fun and challenging, from a new gamer perspective. It's got my recommendation, FWIW. And hey --- new to Gaming threads so forgive me -- are there existing threads pertaining to the different platforms, so we can share reviews? Or is it done by game title? Thanks for the tips!

It's currently listed at CDN$49.99 on Bestbuy.ca. Meh. I can't believe it. I hope it drops here before I go to buy it.
Still holding out for a console, though. Thanks for your feedback, jewels.
