Shadowbane, what are your thoughts on the game?
Shadowbane received only a week of my attention. I believe that it is a terrible design. Here's my extremely brief argument to support this.
1) After level 21, you are forced to hunt in PK zones. Okay, I can handle that. I'm not happy about it, but I can handle it. 2) Certain characters (thieves and assasins) can become invisible and sneak up on you when you are sitting (sitting chars take about triple normal damage). A quick slash or two and you may be back at your spawn point. That makes me angry, but still not enough for me to quit. 3) Thieves can rob you, while invisible, and you will not know about it. Okay, game fvking over. I can't handle a class so powerful that I am CONSTANTLY pk'd, but only after they rob me blind, wait for me to sit down (to recharge mana after a fight with some mob) and then pummel me to a quick death. I would love to give another character experience and everything that I have on me because they picked a character class that is pretty much god-like. As an addition to item number 3, if you are in certain cities I have heard that you can be robbed in the cities between your bank and a merchant. I wonder how many invisible thieves are sitting in a bank waiting for you to withdraw your money... That's shitty design. That's why I played for only a week. I won't become a grief player by using a thief, which appears to be the only way to get ahead in the game, short of starting your own guild... and I just don't have the time for that crap. Shadowbane is a game riddled with griefers. I don't see them nerfing the thieves either, as it states in huge letters on the back of the box, "Massively Merciless." I can't say that they didn't warn me. I so despise giving UbiSoft money for that game. If any others of you have played it or are playing it, please tell me what keeps you in the game and what you think that they are doing right or wrong. |

I say "cry more nub, kthxbye..." for a few reasons...
1) After level 21, you are forced to hunt in PK zones. Okay, I can handle that. I'm not happy about it, but I can handle it. --- Game was billed as a PvP game. Play to Crush? Massively Merciless? These ring a bell? 2) Certain characters (thieves and assasins) can become invisible and sneak up on you when you are sitting (sitting chars take about triple normal damage). A quick slash or two and you may be back at your spawn point. That makes me angry, but still not enough for me to quit. ---Thieves and Assassins are not unbalanced, they are easily killed when you play intelligently. --- Thieves always become visible when they steal whether they succeed or not. If you pay attention, you can catch and kill them no problem. An intelligent thief would just kill you as well, as all your items drop when you die, so theres no need to steal. Before you ask, yes, I play a thief. And a scout. And a Fury. And a Channeler. And a Mage/Assassin. I know how to play my characters. My thief probably gets caught 1/10 times I go out because I pick groups that don't look like they have it together. I don't camp low level areas and wait for easy kills, but if I'm raiding a town of a enemy and a 30th level mage pops up, he's mine. If ya want to give the game another shot, get some pointers, a decent template, or find a guild that hangs together, give me a shout. If you've already made up your mind, then I'm sorry to hear that, but it sounds like you weren't ready to play this type of game either. Last edited by Kec; 05-02-2003 at 10:20 AM.. |

Oh, and my friends that were in the beta (who were mad I quit) are quitting now that they have found out that some of the Wolfpack employees are playing characters in higher powered guilds. Wouldn't it be fun to build up your own guild only to be constantly beat down by employees of the company that make the game? (They would have access to who knows how many "secret" tips, tricks, mobs and weapons.) What are the chances that they don't use an edge? |
