Selling MMO gold
I saw the thread about selling your WoW character, but this is somewhat different so I thought it'd be better to start a new one. Has anyone had any experience selling MMO currency before? I'm asking because I have some extra WoW gold I'd like to sell before the expansion. I thought of just using E-bay, but got some in game spam about selling gold to an MMO "services" site (such as IGE). Is it better to cut out the middleman and sell direct via E-bay or are there convenient and trustworthy sites I should look into? Let me know if you have any recommendations; your replies/PMs are appreciated.

Think of it like the real world. How would multiple middle men affect a real live purchase?
If you sell it to someone else, who in turn will sell it to the end user, that retailer is going to want to make a profit. The price of MMO gold in general has remained pretty stable (ie: you can't get away with charging someone much higher than it normally goes for because they'll go to someone else to get it), which means that even if they wanted to, a retailer cannot buy gold from you at a price which would allow both you and the retailer to make profit. This is because the price for the end user would be too high to unload. ie: If mmo gold regularly goes for $5 for 5 pieces. If I try to sell it at $10 for 5 pieces, no one will buy it. Therefore, if I buy it from a person like you to resell it at $5 for 5 pieces, I have to pay less than $1/piece to maintain my own personal profit. So long story short, sell it yourself.

Just be careful... Blizz is popping accounts left and right for this sort of thing. Make smaller transactions over time if possible. "BUY" an in-game item for the amount (even something not really worth very much, etc.). Try to make the transfer of coin look natural as opposed to just dropping a few thousand gold on some n00b. Good luck!

Ya, this is quite against the rules. You dont want to get your entire account nixed.

If you personally sell it get ready for your account to get banned.. even if you do it with say two accounts.. your main account with your toons then a second one with nothing but junk lvl 1 mules..
creating a lvl 1 toon selling the gold then deleteing the toon.. even though its gone its still logged.. perfect example.. i deleted a lvl 30 toon 4 weeks into the game starting .. two months ago i got him back before i delete all and quit they know what you do in the game if you get flagged by any reason. still your best bet is to lvl a dwarf hunter to 60 and farm gold sell it to a gold site if you can reason for a dwarf.. you get mining and skinning you get all the tracking plus minerals and treasure. i cant tell you how often i came across chests cuz of that little racial ability and got nice boe blues outta them... you get to 55ish you can solo both SM and ulda also RFD sell it all on the ah starting on a new server in one week i had 500g just selling copper, tin and silver bars; gems outta all of them, ruined leather scraps, light, medium leather; light and med hides.. i never got my toon over 26 heh the auction house is your friend. but thats a moot point. if you gonna sell in game gold for money you need a team .. its why "farmers" do this.. they play at internet cafe's in shifts on the same account.. email thier "boss" thier totals for the week and get a check or wire money to them once a sell is made. people like this can afford to lose an account.. they dont have multiple accounts just one. if it gets banned they start a new one and shift power lvl the new toon on the other hand .. i must express my thoughts on gold selling its wrong. the majority of gamers play to achieve something in the game.. phat lewt, status or what not.. the person that buys the gold for RL money.. well they 9 outta 10 are the type that plays single player on god mode. they have no skill, think that they should start out at the highest lvl possible. gold selling ruins the game. it allows a person to cut through all the work of getting items.. this is where self worth comes in.. and be on par with those that worked hard for what they achieved. no i dont think ill of you wanting to sell gold.. its a game. every game is a time sink.. its designed to pass time away that normally youd waste sleeping or stareing at walls lol.

Quick follow up to my post. I had a little success using Ebay, but now they've seemed to crack down pretty hard on MMO gold selling, and won't allow listings that appear to be selling MMO currency. Are there any alternate avenues I should try that people have had success with?
I guess the alternative is having my flying mount cash in hard instead of 600-700 bucks not a big deal I suppose, although I could use some post-holiday cash. |

The reason for going to IGE is that there is less risk for both you and the buyer. People know IGE isn't a scammer so they are willing to pay more for that security.
That said, IGE are scumbags, and selling or buying gold, although I can understand why people would do it, is against the rules and IMO, pretty darn lame. It seems to be a part of MMOs these days though. |
