Metroid Prime - Gamecube

hey guys i bought this the other day as i saw the awesome scores on gamespot and gamespy. I have played it solidly for 3-4 hours each night for the past 4 days and have really become involved in it.

Was just posting to see if any others had this game and if so their thoughts on it?

Having played super metroid, i knew basically what i was in store for in terms of story/objectives/level designs, but what i was not expecting was how well it was all put together. the grahics are amazing, movement fluid and enemy bosses impressive to say the least.

only gripes: they need another contol stick on the pad to allow you to look up and down instead of always looking dead on and having to scan to look around. a targeting system that wasnt completely automatic would be better from a FPS point of view but then again the game wasnt designed to be a fps....

also the ball is lots of fun

I don't remember the control layout, I haven't been able to play it for a few months. I haven't been really happy with any FPS control layout though, guess I'm just too used to the mouse/keyboard combination.

Metroid Prime is awesome though, I got stuck fighting the big giant plant though and haven't picked it up since. I want to go back and finish it. I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel.

School got in the way but I was near the end. Really should go back and finish now that I have some free time...graphics and controls were amazing. I was also worried about FPS on console but I feel they did a great job with that and only a few times did I wish for a mouse for finer aim.

yeah the play control is pretty good...but i do wish for a mouse to turn around quicker....but then again it would wreck the feeling of playing Samus as it would be really hard for her to turn around super quick or look up and down in that chunky suit of hers.

ive currently just put my hands on the Ice gun so ill have a play with that later tonight.

ooo i didnt realise there was a hard mode....hell the bosses are hard enough as it is right now...that rock one was a bastard to kill

Metroid Prime is easily one of the best games of all time. I beat it about 4 months ago. I couldn't put it down from the moment I started it. I have NO gripes with the controls; by the end of the game I was moving Samus better than in most console FPS, even with only one control stick. Like Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly, "Metroid Prime does not need first-person shooter controls. If we were going to use a second analog stick, we would have made Prime a first-person shooter, which it is not." I can't sum it up better. Metroid Prime is a first-person adventure game, not a shooter. It would be hard as hell to jump if there were two control sticks (no fingers left for jumping). The controls in Metroid Prime are as close to perfect as it comes.

The game is definitely worth playing, and especially worth finishing. It's worth buying a Gamecube for. Yes, it's that good. I can't wait for the sequel, even though I'm not sure if it will be as good as Prime since they spent 4 or 5 years on it.

I totally loved that game. The penultimate boss is indeed a bastard, harder than the rock guy, but not much. It kind of felt like every boss had a trick, and once you figured it out, they cracked pretty easily, but I was extremely satisfied with the game as a whole. The scene where you walk out onto the ledge in the frozen world and Ridley glides above you, casting a huge shadow -- brilliant. In the top three Gamecube games, top three console FPSs, too.
