Metroid Prime is easily one of the best games of all time. I beat it about 4 months ago. I couldn't put it down from the moment I started it. I have NO gripes with the controls; by the end of the game I was moving Samus better than in most console FPS, even with only one control stick. Like Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with Electronic Gaming Monthly, "Metroid Prime does not need first-person shooter controls. If we were going to use a second analog stick, we would have made Prime a first-person shooter, which it is not." I can't sum it up better. Metroid Prime is a first-person adventure game, not a shooter. It would be hard as hell to jump if there were two control sticks (no fingers left for jumping). The controls in Metroid Prime are as close to perfect as it comes.
The game is definitely worth playing, and especially worth finishing. It's worth buying a Gamecube for. Yes, it's that good. I can't wait for the sequel, even though I'm not sure if it will be as good as Prime since they spent 4 or 5 years on it.
