When Trivial Pursuit is WRONG!?!

My experience through the years of playing Trivial Pursuit is that the answers they give are occasionally wrong. Sometimes they are a little off, sometimes they are dead wrong. I'm curious to hear everyone's stories about trivial pursuit questions that they knew to be wrong. You can include the correct answer, what you did about it, whatever you like.

I am a scientist, so the science and nature category is my favorite. There was a question that I recall that asked, "What is the capacity of the adult human bladder?" I am paraphrasing, so forgive any inaccuracy. The game said the that correct answer was 8 ounces. Now, this is a very poorly phrased question to begin with. But we can assume that they are after the "average" capacity. The correct answer would be more like 16 ounces. The question is really more complicated than that, because the capacity of your bladder is never really reached. You feel the urge to urinate when your bladder is about 1/2 full. As it approaches 2/3 full that urge becomes unbearable. Somewhere above 2/3 full and you will lose bladder control. Way more than you ever wanted to know about bladders, huh?

To me, either of those is WAY too small. I'm not an average guy, so maybe I don't have an average bladder. But I have had the unfortunate experience of draining my bladder into a 44 ounce cup when stuck in traffic for 2 hours. I damn near FILLED that cup. If I had to estimate my bladder capacity, I would put it somewhere north of 32 ounces.

Ha, now what you thought was starting out as a thread on Trivial Pursuit has led to the urgent voiding of my bladder whilst marooned in a traffic jam! What is your best story?

Agreeed to play Trivial Pursuit with Donald the Bubble Boy in upstate New York and got into a petty argument when George insisted the answer to a question was "Moops" but Donald said it was "Moors" (the game card had a misprint). Susan ended up deflating the Bubble Boy's protective bubble inadvertently, and George was accused of trying to kill Donald.
moops...the answer is moops.

There's a great scene in an episode of The Cosby Show where Mr. Huxtable is dressing his daughter to go play out in the snow. Like a good father, he dresses her appropriately for the cold weather. With every layer he puts on her he asks "Do you have to go to the bathroom?"Seven layers and seven questions later, the daughter innocently says "Dad, I have to pee!" and begins to undress.

It's almost impossible to give an exact measurement for the volume of the human bladder. That is, everyone's ability to hold a certain amount of urine differs. The point at which a person can't "hold it in"anymore and urine is expelled from the urinary bladder is known as Micturition. The urge to urinate is stimulated by expansion of of the bladder. As the bladder walls fill with urine and expand, stretch receptors are stimulated and the Micturition reflex is triggered. The Micturition reflex center is located in the spinal cord. When it is signaled by impulses from the stretch receptors, motor impulses travel to a muscle in the urinary bladder which undergoes rhythmic contractions. It is interesting to note that the reason infants are unable to control the voluntary muscles associated with Micturition is because voluntary control of Micturition becomes possible as the brain and spinal cord mature.

The majority of sources that I found reported that the adult bladder could contain about 600 to 800 cm3 (ml). However, they also noted that the Micturition point is between 150 and 300 cm3 (ml).

Daniel Shaw -- 2001
Seems that in 2001, at least.. the "general" belief was 800 ML.

i had a question that asked "which scandinavian country fines speeders based on their salary?"

the answer to the question was finland. i guess this is the correct answer, but the question is fairly misleading.

the three countries in scandinavia are denmark, sweden, and norway. finland and iceland CAN be considered scandinavian if you are speaking more BROADLY, but a much better term for the group of five is "nordic countries." maybe Nancy can weigh in here...

anyway, now you know how trvial pursuit defines scandinavia...kinda. i don't know if they include iceland or not.

Having been in Finland and got a speeding ticket, I luckily figured that out when the officer asked me my salary when writing the ticket. Instead of my pride saying my full salary, I downplayed it to half of that. Thank goodness because it was a shocker when he told me what the fine was to be.

in the 2nd addtion of the game there is a card where 4 out of the 5 questions is about hitler, or WWII.

Another time while with a group of freinds i won the game in 2 turns. 2 pies on the 1st, 3 + center on the the next tern. I got something like 25 straight answers right. It was fun and im not alowed to play TP with them any more

Same here. My friends won't let me play any more. They'll let me ask the questions, but I'm not allowed to play. I'm only allowed to play trivia games when we're in competition against other people (ie, Battle of the Sexes or Tribond at a party). I'm also not allowed to watch Jeopardy! or lull unsuspecting strangers into competing against me (my friends do that for me). I'm serious--they've had people over to attempt to give me a run for my money in Jeopardy! No one has come close yet.

I remember having a question from an old edition of the game that had the correct answer when that edition of the game was released, but is now wrong. I forgot the exact wording, but it dealt with what country owned Hong Kong. The answer the card gives is England.
