Terroist Attacks..Are You Phsycologically Prepared?

I was reading an article in the Toronto Sun couple days ago, About how the majority of Canadians are not mentally prepared for terrorist attacks.

It got me thinking, I'm not mentally prepared for it..To be honest, I don't think it will happen and it's really something that i don't give alot of thought towards, Until i read that article.

Honestly, I knew nothing about terrorism and all that before 9/11. Now it's everywhere.
I don't really think about it too much, It's like it's happening in a different world than what i live in. But at the same time, It's possible it's right in your own neighberhood.

How do you feel about Canada being a possible target for terrorist attacks?

It's fuckin terrible you know? But when you think about it, about more than half of the world are faced with the same issue and that kinda gives me a little relief. When it comes, it comes and there's nothing we can do about it but work our way through it.

If it happens it happens. I think it's more the case of not if, but when.

Psychologically prepared? I guess as much or less as anyone else, at least those who don't endure it on a daily basis.

been there, done that, have a selection of tee-shirts.

I lived in London during the IRA bombing campaigns, and you are NEVER ready, ad yet you always ignore it and keep going.

Terrorism is always shocking - that's the whole point of it. But the human mind has an astonishing facility for overlooking the spectacular i favour of the mundane.

Look at all the times you see people reopening shops with blown out windows.

I bet that within 24 hours of McVei's bomb in Oklahoma the people that worked in the government building were perfectly OK about the fact that they early died, but totally pissed off about the fact that they left a half can of Coke on their desk.

Well.... I don't think I would be prepared, but I sure as hell would be ready to kick some ass afterwards.... or I would run around in circles yelling, arms flailing, and then fall to the ground and start shaking. I agree with what Daniel_ said about never being prepared. If you expect something, you're going to be disappointed waiting for it till it happens, then we'll get the "told you so." But I think that I am going to enjoy myself now and live my life until something happens or not.

I agree with you and everything else the other posters have said.

I'm fooling myself when i say, I just can't see a terrorist attack happening in Canada. I have only ever followed terrorism since 9/11, I know it's been around way before then.

To my knowledge Canada has never been victim to terrorist attacks, I think that may be what drives me to think that if it hasn't happened..Then i can't see it happening. But, I know that's just me thinking like that.

If it were to happen the most probable target would be Toronto i would think. Many reffer to Toronto as being Canada's heartbeat.

Then, my friend, you need to read up on what the FLQ (Front de Liberation du Quebec) did in 1970. Their actions caused Pierre-Elliot Trudeau to enact the War Measures Act and send the army into Quebec. Separatism has many of its roots in that time.

Air India bombing too.

I totally expect us to be one of the next countries hit with a big attack, I think as a country though we will respond more like the English did, showing the terrorists that they won't change us, than the Americans did, giving up rights and freedoms left and right in a rather poorly conceived attempt to stop them. I've heard that experts think the number one target will be BC Ferries.

I know for a fact that I'm not phsycologically prepared, but I know that even if I try to be, I'll just be worrying pointlessly. So the way i see it is that whatever's gonna happen's gonna happen, no matter whether we've worried about it or not.

That was a crazy time, did the FLQ not say they were gonna kidnap trudeau and he went on the news and laughed said he would be home all day if they wanted to stop by. remember reading something like that, boy i miss him.

Not sure I am prepared or not, i do believe it will happen, toronto/montreal would be my guess. I think that the more we distance our foreign policy from the current US admin, that it holds the key to whether or if we are going to be hit. Right or wrong, I just assumed we did not get attacked like say spain is because we did support or go in with the iraq war.

We went to Afghanistan though... Besides, I don't think a fundamentalist lunatic would care. We're all infidels to them.

So we should let terrorists dictate our foreign policy like they did for Spain?

You'd think having gone through that people would realize we are as vulnerable to a terror attack as anyone else. Our presence in Afghanistan, our status as a "crusader" nation make us a very tempting and easy target.

We will suffer another attack someday - maybe next week, maybe 5 years from now - but it'll happen.

BTW, here's a list of terror attacks and political assassinations and attempts on Canadian soil. We are involved on a bunch of different fronts.
