A Whole New Word!
I have defined a new word, my overall goal being to open the Oxford English Dictionary one day and see it smiling back at me. I feel the best way to do this is to get it into common usage, and what better place to launch my word than from a forum, *deep breath* well here goes:
Flanannagen - fla.nan.agen (Noun) Definition. Where the situation was better than the explanation. Example. When someone says "You should have been there, it was so funny". They can't express the humour of the moment passed, that's a flanannagen! The next time you're with a group of friends explaining something to them and they just don't understand how funny it was to be there, shock them with my new word and impress them with one masterstoke! So will people use my word? Do you have any words of your own that you've invented? Awww c'mon give a new word the decent break it deserves...

It's not mine, but my dad's...
jentzed - (yens-d) a negative state of mind characterized by any of all of the following: aggravation, confusion, short-temperedness, annoyance, you get the idea. After 10 or so years of using this word with patients and physicians alike "I'm feeling very jentzed about this" (nodding of head from whomever he's talking to) "Do you know what i mean when i say i feel very jentzed?" "oh yeah, yeah i know what you mean" was the normal response. Only one person has ever said "I hear you use that word all the time, what in the world does "jentzed" mean. |

Bosefied (BO-seh-fyd) and debosefied (de or dee-BO-seh-fyd) (synonyms) adj.
Terminally unhip. Dude, putting Bwana Dik on the stereo when we had the bowheads all ready to go was totally debosefied. and bosea (BO-SEE) On who is... You bosea! Everyone knows that plaid doesn't go with corduroy. Schweenbag (SHWEEN-BAG) n. - An unpleasant, uncool, and strange person. One who is out of place in a mildly doisgusting way. So we asked him to dance, but he said he had two left feet and kept trying to show us what he had in is bag. What a schweenbag! FLK - n. or adj. Mentally Challenged. From the medical slang FLK = Funny Looking Kid

matthew330 - Jentzed is a useful word, I'm going to pop it into a few sentences when they arise and see if I can get the word to work for me. It almost sounds like a Jewish phrase to me and I might have trouble using it subtly but I'm eager to see people's reactions...
Tophat665 - What you've got there is not so much a word but a whole language! Totally debosefied is probably how I'd come across if I tried to use it, I doubt I've got the cool to carry off a long word like that. But I could easily call someone a 'Schweenbag' in the presense of my friends, and probably have them agreeing without knowing exactly what the word meant...

I think I might have just assumed that 'ginormous' already was a commonly accepted word, like enormous only bigger.
Kind of a kid's word for saying "It was bigger than a dinosaur!" And following on the fucktard theme, I've got a word which can be added to any swear word just to give it extra flare, I use it all the time without much thought really... It's: whend Used in context: You ginormous dick-whend! Makes the insult that little bit more patronising when the victim has no exact idea of what they've just been called.

Stug: I'm interested in the derivation for flanannagen. Also, does it rhyme with shenanigan?
If you remember Sniglets, my favorite made-up words were cinemuck (noun, the sticky stuff on the floor in the movie theater) and furble (verb, to be forced to walk through cordoned-off lines in a bank, even though there is nobody in line). |

I like "sniglets". I think sniglets is funnier sounding than flanannagen, but I like the definition of flanannagen. Can we change whatever the definition of sniglets is to the def. of flanannagen? Like:
John: "I was reading the court documents for the Bill O'Reilly sexual harrassment case... oh man, it's so funny... It's so funny, he talks about rubbing a chick with falafel! You have to read it, I can't describe it...." Barb: "Hey, That's sniglets!"

Iceburn, Sniglets were a part of an HBO show in the mid-80s, so that word is very taken. For many more, see Sniglets: Words that don't appear in the dictionary, but should.

On with the subject of gignormous, another really big word: Godzillion. Sort of like a zillion, but blown to even more mind-bending size by atomic radiation, to the point where it is beyond the ken of mankind. Infinity minus 1.

WooHaa! A Gozillion is a super top trump alright, and also a word I feel smarter for having learnt, thanks Tophat!
Hi redlemon, the word flanannagen is pronounced so that it should rhyme with shenanigan. As for the derivation, well it's not so concise as the way Sniglets are put together. Instead of being the combination of 2 or 3 words, it's just the sound that I felt best fit the meaning... almost an analogy but with the 'fla' thrown in to denote the sound used when your brain catches up with your mouth... Oh and I also liked the word Branigan previous to this but that was just the make of a type of crisps/chips that I used to eat. Sooo that all made pefect sense right..?
