Jury duty
I have found myself on the jury role this year, and managed to get out of the 12 week trial earlier this year (wife was pregnant). Anyway, I'm up again this Monday.
Has anybody done it? What did you think of the whole process?

I have never been selected. Dunno why...I reckon my drink driving misdemenours would have dropped off by now *shrug*
A couple of people I work with were up for selection recently...they file past the lawyers and are looked at and either accepted or rejected. Just by their appearance. Weird process.

in year 12 legal studies i learnt all about the jury selection process, i know exactly how to get out of it. I'm not sharing my secret though, otherwise there'd be no jurors for anyone. BTW they are alot more tough than they used to be, you have to have the best excuse to ge outta it these days.

Why not just rockup w/ a shirt saying "FUCK THE [somebodies]". They can't keep you if you have such a clear prejudice, I imagine hehe.
I'm in a sweet position. Not a citizen yet.. so no jury duty.. and don't pay taxes back in the States (which is how I think they track you), so no worries there. |

I ended up getting excused. I work from home and said that I was responsible for looking after my 10 week old. Not exactly 100% true, but 4 weeks woulda be rather long.
So, I'm still on the role until February, and will get called up again (hopefully for something shorter). In the meantime, I can organise the shirt Latch suggested

Well, I got my latest summons. I'm guessing that I'll already be in court, so I won't have to attend. A novel way to get out of jury duty - get someone to sue you

i have a friend who says he always gets out of them because his dad is a dr. and he just gets his dad to write him a note.
----------------------------- i've had to report to jury duty before but i have never been selected. i tried to keep my mouth shut as much as possible. when i was asked a question i made my answer as short as possible. the lawyers are trying to get information out of you; by giving long answers you're giving the lawyers more of a reason to pick you. if you're blabbering alot they will remember you and choose you. but if you're a quiet one in the back, you might get skipped over. not sure if its true, but this is my 2 cents |
