Er.
I watch this show at work... it's usually on at close, when I'm cleaning up, and the owner likes it. And honestly, I think they're both terrible. Especially tonight, I thought Fantasia was particularly heinous. But both of them are, from a technical standpoint (I'm a trained singer) crap and from an enjoyment standpoint (this is my regular person coming in) crap. They've never heard the word "soul" in their lives, let alone thought about the meaning of it. They are hollow and boring, not to mention fake beyond belief. I apologize to everyone who read this. I know I'm mean. But you asked, right? Edit: On the upside, the bassist plays a Warwick Corvette (anyone know what model? I only noticed it in the picture of Diana in red), which is alright in my book. Last edited by MooseMan3000; 05-25-2004 at 07:24 PM.. |

put my vote for the 'who the f*ck watches this crap anyway?' option. My total viewing time of any survivor show/idol type show/reality show in the past three years is at most three minutes.

I really, really hate this show. I can't believe people other than 13 year old girls watch it.

I miss John Stevens.
I voted Word Association thread 'cuz I is a 'tard. Fantasia is a little nasally for my tastes but I like her attitude and she beats out Diana, in my book. LaToya should have won, though.

LaToya is destined to great things.
i think she still lacks that personality charisma factor. that's what killed her. but yeah, the woman can sing. i just finished watching tonight's show. (tivoed while we went to dinner) fantasia totally kicked sweet little diana's ass. diana is a great performer/entertainer. she'll be just fine. but i don't even hafta watch tomorrow night (although i will) to know that fantasia has won it this year. she has raised the bar for all future american idols. although, i don't know how many times someone this special really comes along.

even the horrible singing endured during the early epsiodes is entertaining i guess in that like watching a train wreck, it fun to watch the talent sifted. i dunno. i think COPS is a funny teevee show.

I have only heard either of them briefly in passing, but when I did, I wasn't that impressed with either of them. If either of them are going to make it as an artist, then they will need to do some serious work. Of course, they are both very young and I am sure that they could both mature and become fine singers with time.

Well, since I have to choose between those two I'll go with Fantasis because she is a better singer and performer than Diana. However, neither of them should win, it really should have been LaToya who was by far the best singer in the competition.

So, since musical integrity can't possibly have anything to do with a decision on the winner of American Idol when going between these two, I hope Diana wins cause she's hot. EDIT: I've just been notified Diana is 16. ..... /me goes to Hell.

you naysayers haven't really been following the show. no way.
fantasia is gonna be a household word. she has the soul & the talent. and i agree with everyone else, LaToya can really sing! extremely well ! ...but i'm not convinced that she can ever go as far as Fantasia can.

I can't stand either of them. Neither will amount to anything beyond a record released in the coming year and the American Idol tour.
Fantasia has a nasally, annoying voice, and she screams too much. Diana has a deep, annoying voice, and she screams too much. Put Jasmine back in, at least she had looks to fall back on when the album(s) dry up. BTW, I stopped watching after last week since I can't stand either of the final two and watching Simon, Randy, and Paula kiss Fantasia's ass all the time was getting old.

I don't care for a lot of things about Fantasia either - but I have a feeling that she's going to be around for a long long time. Jasmine was a doll - shame she didn't have the talent to go with the looks.

there were a few others from this season's contestants that i think we may see somewhere down the road...
Jasmine Trias is one of those. she has some growing yet to do, but she is very loved by many, so she may yet pull it out of the hat... George Huff is just a doll. my husband & i can't help but smile every time we see him. his vocals, while not completely polished, aren't too shabby. with some additionally training, he could fare pretty well. John Stevens has an interesting unique style, kind of retro. i think if he can muster up the polish on his vocal skills, he may yet have a chance at the lime light. Jennifer Hudson is just a soulful powerhouse. i hope she manages to be successful. There's something about Camile Velasco's deep smokey voice that i like. her lack of confidence killed her in this competition, plus she really needs much more training at this stage & it's obvious that she knows that. LaToya will probably fair well, as Diana. The others will most likely soon be forgotten except possibly at smaller venues. anyway, i adore Fantasia. imho, she's possesses a lot of genuine heartfelt soul that doesn't seemed feigned in the least to me. i'm looking forward to seeing what she does with her career. i am not a Kelly Clarkson fan. Reuben Studdard is a total doll, his singing is aiight... but i doubt i'd ever buy one of his CDs. i'll watch season 4. i think the show is fun & entertaining from beginning to end. Simon Cowell is a pompus egotistical ass, but yet he's the funny villain & for the most part, his brutal hold no bars critiques are generally spot on. Randy Jackson, the dawg & his hip speak is amusing & he seems genuine to me with his opinions. Paula Abdul is the soothing counter balance to simon cowell's harsh brutal truths. paula wraps her critiques in sugar & encouragement. she looks for the potential in these kids & gives them the encouraging words that say "don't give up, you can do it." i was a flute major in college. i vividly remember the immense stress & pressure of competitions. i applaud all these kids who work hard, get up there & open themselves up on this scale. of course, i laugh loudly at the disgruntled blinded tone deaf morons who have no clue that they can't sing!! but at the end of the day, i guess they at least got their 1.5 minutes of fame & their pathetic ignorance made a lot people laugh (at them).

What do you think of Clay Aiken, bernie?
Btw, my instrument was the trombone. Didn't go higher than highschool, though. Did you have competitions in college? We scored a few 1's back in the day.

Clay is good, but i think he belongs on broadway or at least i think that's where his style would be best employed rather than the pop charts. but what do i know?
and ooooh yeah, loads of high school competitions. every year i was involved in the state solo & ensemble competition as a soloist & in at least one ensemble. couple that with that both our marching band & concert band was top notch, competed & placed high (or won) a lot, i have a slew of now very worthless medals in the attic. oh wait... you asked about college.
yes, indeed. there were competitions. i won a soloist slot in some program in clowes hall (home of the indianapolis symphony, well it was then, beautiful hall). then of course, there was the constant competition for chairs in orchestra & band & the baroque ensemble. then there was just competition to even be admitted to the music schools &/or for music scholarships. i was turned down at IU, but offered scholarships to attend ISU & BU. i went to bulter univ.

I didn't like the competition for chairs.
Highest I made was #2, and that was briefly. Third chair was my home. I couldn't ever beat Stephen ---------, the assh@|3, to become #1. It caused some resentment on my part. Plus, he had a silverplated t-bone that I coveted. Quote:
