gaming and gender...
When you are playing mindless nternet games, against a computer (or computer games in general) do you think of the computer as a him or her?
Online pool for instance, your opponent....do u think, I hope he screws this shot up... Or do you think, "I hope she screws this shot up..." Or am I just weird? I thought of it while playing hexagon on ebaums world |

I usually assume my opponents are male, even if their name suggest otherwise. I prefer not to be the gullible chump some ass is laughing at when they ask him 'are you really a gurlz0r?!'

we all tend to assume that an unknown entity is of the same gender as us, until further information about them is acquired, or unless there are prior er, stereotypes i guess (i.e. its a pretty common stereotype that receptionists are young females).
An example: several years ago, i played diablo 2 with a female friend of mine. Anyway, we got up to the end act 2, and faced up against the major baddie, a slug like creature called Duriel. i remember her saying "ugh, shes ugly" or something like that, and i remember thinking that was curious because up until that point, i had always thought that Duriel was male. odd, but true. |
