True. But the endo-skeleton is perfectly capable of functioning without the living tissue over it, like when it gets burned completely away like in the first movie, or as we saw several of the endo-skeletons in the firefight in the second movie, never gets installed. I'd say that qualifies it as a robot.

Got extra room in that dork hole?

Hail Robotophiles!

How can we not mention the 1981 smash hit Heartbeeps?

Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters as robots who fall in love.
They escape to start a family. Good stuff.

*looks around*

Val and Aqua

*silence*

Randy Quaid as the loveable Charlie

*crickets chirping*

the voice of Jerry Garcia

*in the distance, a dog barks faintly*

I've said too much,

One of my personal favorites, that I'm sure no one else will mention.

Chopping Mall (aka Killbots).

Nothing like killer security guard robots in bad 80's horror... complete with gratuitous nudity.
