Just to summarize so far for my own sanity: In the U.S., not a city, not a park, not a mountain, not a monument, not a bridge, but you can see water.

On a beach?

I'm not on beach.

Maybe this will help...

I see water all around me.

^ sorry, Tul. I just quoted myself since my previous question was missed...oh missus. But hey, who's counting?

Are you near the Strait of San Juan de Fuca? ...near meaning less than 500 miles?

(...as an aside, or not: I tried a glass of Stella Artois again at lunch today since the tap I asked for was not pouring yet...I kindly asked her to pour it down the drain and give me a Yingling...that Artois stuff is nasty...imo)

How did your question get missed? You asked one then jewels asked one then you asked another. I'm lost... yet again.

I'm farther the 500 miles from the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

I always forget clues that involve "East/West"...

your "Rock" clue shoved me off from the obvious, to a more abstract interpretation of a 'famous rock', 'initial rock', 'Plymouth Rock'.. ah

Treasure Island? ...though not the one by Robert Louis Stevenson

Treasure Island, a man made island, has been used as an international airport, site of the 1939–40 World’s Fair and as a military base. The Museum of The City of San Francisco has an article and links to other World’s Fair information.

Yes sir, I am on Treasure Island. Went to welding and firefighting school there.

Fun times. To graduate the school you had to don the "hot suit" (a silver looking thing with a helmet that appeared to be made by NASA) and walk through a 30ft diesel fire, pick up a 5 gallon bucket of water and walk back out.

A couple years later I found myself in Samoa where I visited the grave of Robert Louis Stevenson. His tombstone reads:

Quote:
Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.

Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
You're up Nick.

Tul,
One of the products/business groups where I work develops and manufactures body cooling apparatus...for industrial workers, military, etc. About 10 or so years ago, we developed and tested a system for cooling those fire suits you mentioned. As we were running our tests, a guy...I wish I remembered his name...came to witness and help with development; he was pretty much the world's leading expert in specialized heat/fire protection suits and systems. I recall getting into that suit and getting into a big heat treatment oven to test it...we didn't have breathing air available at the first runs, so I had a tube that led from my mouth and out the door so I could breath, and we had some prearranged signals in case I felt faint...first test failed since I got too hot and had to get out.

Nick:

Here I am somewhere in the Indian Ocean between Diego Gracia and Kenya. Standing a couple frames forward of the flight deck, starboard, just before sunrise. We did most of our drills in the pre-dawn hours due to heat. We had no air supply at all in those days, by 0900 or 1000 it would be well over 100 degree. In that suit it felt more like 150.

Ahhh, Empire State building is one of my favorite buildings. I remember the first time I went up in it...I was about 10 years old.

per wiki: The Empire State Building is a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in New York City at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. Its name is derived from the nickname for the state of New York. It stood as the world's tallest building for more than forty years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the destruction of the World Trade Center in 2001, the Empire State Building again became the tallest building in New York City and New York State.

...but sorry, unc. I'm not in the Empire State Building.
