I'm sure the building I'm in has handicapped restrooms but alas it's not a hotel or motel.

I'm north of Eugene.

Eugene's duck country and I'm a beaver fan personally.

BadNick 02-15-2009 03:02 PM

Oregon, the Beaver State! Tul, are you north of Salem?

btw, thinking I might find a beaver shaped building or something like that, I searched "oregon beaver" and you'd be surprised...or maybe not... at why they call Oregon the beaver state.

If you searched "Beaver Oregon" you likely found the town I moved to shortly after leaving the service. One flashing yellow light and a pop of less then 200. I was on the Nestucca Rural Volunteer Fire Dept. there as a fireman and EMT while I lived there. Still have a coast and hat that read "Beaver Fire Dept."

Yes, I'm north of Salem.

You mean like a government building? No, not in any house either. Though my dad spent most of his adult life working in the Oregon State Capitol Building.

BadNick 02-15-2009 07:44 PM

Are you west of Rt 5?

Tully Mars 02-15-2009 08:11 PM

Do you mean Route 5?-

http://www.oohva.org/Back%20Country/...MAP%20BCDR.jpg

Or I-5?-

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...tate_5.svg.png

I-5's highlighted in red.

Either way, doesn't matter, I'm west.

BadNick 02-15-2009 09:22 PM

I meant I-5...I even wrote I-5 and then changed it to Rt. 5 not knowing there was also a state rt. 5. So is it possible to be at the intersection of 5 & 5? <<<< that's not my game question!

I've searched quite a bit but still can't find an "interesting" building you might be in that is a few miles from a town. I can only narrow down the area:

Are you south of Rt. 26?

I am south of Route 26, which the by as it leaves Portland and goes through Beaverton is also known to the locals as "The Sunset." Many people will tell you it gets that name because people commuting home out of Portland on it are looking west and at the sunset. Plaques at several points along the way will tell you it's actually named for the US 41st Infantry Division which had many Oregon members during WWII. It's construction first started in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1st. depression and was completely shortly after the end of WWII.

Mainly I'm telling you this because my uncle went from unemployed to employed because of the CCC and worked on this highway. But you could make a WWII connection to the building I'm in even though it was built more recently.

BTW- you guys better find me today I'm going diving tomorrow, back to Mahahual for a few days then back to Merida for Carnival then I'm off to Belize. Once I get to Belize I should have the Net again but that's going to be a week and half at least.

BadNick 02-16-2009 07:01 AM

In 1942, the U.S. Navy began construction of 17 wooden hangars to house the K-class blimps being used for anti-submarine coast patrol and convoy escort. Two of these hangars were built at the Naval Air Station Tilllamook, commissioned in December 1942 to serve the Oregon-Washington coastal area.

Construction of the two hangars was rushed to completion. Hangar "B" was the first one built and was completed in the spring of 1943. Hangar "A" which was destroyed in a 1992 fire, was completed in only 30 days. Amazingly, there were no serious injuries or deaths on the whole project.

Stationed at NAS Tillamook was Squadron ZP-33 with a complement of eight K-ships. The K-ships were 252 feet long and filled with 425,000 cu. ft. of helium. With a range of 2,000 miles and an ability to stay aloft for three days, they were well suited for coast patrol and convoy escort. Naval Air Station Tillamook was decommissioned in 1948.

Since 1994 the remaining hangar has been home to one of the top five privately owned aircraft collections in the nation.

No, but that's the blimp hanger where I used to work next door. I couldn't remember when they turned it into a museum. I do know it was long after I became a PO and had my office at the court house. I have flown into that airport and parked my plane right in front to those huge doors.

I'll also say while I'm not there you're on the right track.

BadNick 02-16-2009 01:43 PM

I thought that hangar looked familiar...you posted a pic of it in your post #4579.

There isn't an airfield here... which is very, very odd. There's one real close, but not exactly here.

BadNick 02-16-2009 02:03 PM

Are you in or near Beaverton, Oregon?

First note I edited above to say "not exactly here."

And I'm not in Beaverton but if you consider 35-40 miles close, then I'm close.

BadNick 02-16-2009 02:20 PM

Are you closer to McMinnville?

Tully Mars 02-16-2009 02:23 PM

Closer, much closer. Damn near there.

BadNick 02-16-2009 02:39 PM

just to make sure....Tul, you didn't go back to the Evergreen Aviation Museum, home of the Spruce Goose, did you?

Just asking since that's right near there and girldetective was hiding there back on page 72 of this thread.

I DID! Gez, my bad. I forgot all about her being there. Maybe we are running out of places to hide. I was going to go to the Tillamook one until I posted that pic.

Well you found me, you're up.

I'll be gone for a few days. I'll abide whatever punishment the group decides for double back tracking if that's not allowed.

Off to pick up friends at the airport.

Go hide Nick

BadNick 02-16-2009 03:45 PM

you silly guy...go diving and have fun.

I'll need a few hours to contemplate where in the world we haven't been yet.

Tully Mars 02-17-2009 12:56 AM

OK, off to dive.

I'll toss out a WH? on my way out the door.

uncle phil 02-17-2009 03:13 AM

NH?

BadNick 02-17-2009 04:25 AM

thanks, that gives me some direction.

So both of those are "yes"

uncle phil 02-17-2009 05:26 AM

tobyhanna army depot?

BadNick 02-17-2009 08:15 AM

uncle phil 02-17-2009 08:40 AM

east of our lady?

BadNick 02-17-2009 01:30 PM

uncle phil 02-17-2009 02:27 PM

north of 40?

Tully Mars 02-17-2009 04:26 PM

A. coastal state?

BadNick 02-17-2009 05:47 PM

yes north of 40

I'm not really in a state, though I am not far from the coast

are you in Belize diving? post pics if you can

No, I'm not in Belize right now. I will be in a few weeks or a month or so. I was planing on being there starting March 1st but my place to stay fell through. I wanted to finish my dive master course there. Looks like I'm going to be finishing it in Akumal which is where I was today. I'm diving Akumal and staying Playa (del Carmen.) Playa has more lodging choices.

Hmm, pictures. I only brought my underwater camera and I'm still working out the kinks (AKA can't figure it out yet) Here's a few I took when I was on my way through here to meet up with Phil a few weeks back.

Here's where I'm staying-

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3564/...4d3218.jpg?v=0

Everythings falling apart and the door doesn't always lock. But it's got a view of the Caribbean, it's about $40 a night and it's next door to my favorite bar in Playa, Dave's Bad Boy's Bar (no, I didn't name it) Here's a view from the bar "swing"-

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3424/...1f9566.jpg?v=0

And lastly here's a tall ship that showed up the morning I left last time. I have no idea what it is or where it's headed-

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3313/...340836.jpg?v=0

So, not in a state but in the states? Are you a river or bay that is in more then one state?

uncle phil 02-18-2009 03:19 AM

a canal?

BadNick 02-18-2009 09:58 AM

I never said I was in the States, nobody asked that...so I'm not in the U.S.

river, bay, canal are on the right track, but actually a lake...and literally in the lake

uncle phil 02-18-2009 01:26 PM

east of the mississippi but not in the US?

BadNick 02-18-2009 01:36 PM

I see your point, unc. But since the "east of the lady?" question was asked before determining what country or latitude other than "NH", I said "yes". I am at a longitude that is east of the Miss but I'm not in the U.S. Look a tad north.

uncle phil 02-18-2009 01:47 PM

an island with a casino on it in montreal?

BadNick 02-18-2009 01:57 PM

nope, not any island. As I mentioned above, I'm literally in the water as in wet and covered in water. Remember earlier when I was hiding in the Mariana Trench? ....this is sort of along those lines.
