Has anyone noticed...
...that a drink that comes in both can and bottle form can often taste different in either?
For example, take Fanta Fruit Twist. In the bottle, it has a sweeter, duller and less defined taste. In the can, however, it has a sharper/slightly more sour taste, and isn't quite as sweet. Anyone else notice this?

Yup, totally.
People look at me like I'm on crack when I tell them I prefer Coke from McDonald's over normal stuff in cans or bottles.

I agree that the can and bottle are different, it probably has something to do with the taste of the container of the effect that it has on the liquid.
The fountain tastes different for another reason. The reason is that the flavoring and the plain soda are mixed at the time of use instead of sitting in a continer mixed for a long time. In fact the owner of the establishment can often adjust the amount of flavoring per amount of soda.

If my plans for the weekend don't get entirely screwed I should be able to post my opinion Tuesday afternoon.

A few years ago some nut tried to market milk in a can. We drink shitloads of it over here. Thing is the milk tasted like tha can. Dont think it caught on. Dunno if youz got it over there but some people over here drink ice tea in a can, I dont ever drink tea so I can t tell you what it tastes like.
I used to work in a fast food joint ¡ we used to taste the coke syrup, really sticky ¡ strong. It comes in big cans, ¡ you hook it up to this big sticky machine ¡ it mixes it with water ¡ carbonates it ¡ you can (as sticky said) ajust the strength of the mix going into the fountain.

Here's something that I need help with.
The Guinness ads that tell me about genuine Guinness draught IN A CAN. WTF! Isn't it true that the second they pour it into a can, it is canned beer? I haven't run any tests or anything, but they can't tell me with a straight face that the stuff sitting in cans tastes the same as the draught I have poured for me down at the corner bar. I absoutely love Guinness, but just can't bring myself to buy a six-pack of the cans. I dunno, maybe one of you guys have an idea on the formula they use. I'm so confused. |

I perfer coke from the can. Dr pepper from the two liter OR fountain. I despise any beer in the can. I can (barely)stand beer in a bottle. Never had it on tap. Glass bottles for pop is cool but rarely worth the money.

I prefer beer from the tap, then in a bottle (basically the same), then BAD beer from a can. I won't drink good beer from a can because it's just too depressing.
On the subject of soda fountains, there was a local fast-food restaurant (I won't say whom or where for fear of legal reprecussions) whose under-the-floor soda lines had a leak and cross-contamination problem with sewer lines that ran right under the same floor. For about three weeks they were serving Shit Colas. What's worse was, they knew about it for a while before fixing it or even shutting down the soda fountain. Finally their soda vendor caught wind of it and shut them down. This sounds like an urban legend, but I'm assured it's true by a relative who's a manager of a fast food restaurant owned by the same franchisee corporation. |

The guy who decided to put beer in a plastic bottle should be drawn and quartered! Worse, even, than cans. Needs a GLASS bottle, frosty cold... or from the tap in a frosted mug... one that's never, ever ever had milk in it!
Makes me grumpy jusst thinkin' 'bout it!

I enjoy drinking beer in the bar- I've always thought the can was where you disposed of (or "recycled") the beer.
And as far as getting Coke at McDonald's- be careful- I got burned there once! I prefer buying coke from someone I know better and can trust!

canned beers are only good when you have zero cash and want to throw a party. that way not one cares because the beer is free and the women are not.

I agree there as always been a big taste difference for me. I drink mostly Dr Pepper out of the bottle. I won't drink it out of the fountain. Coke only out of the fountain. Glad to know that I'm not the only one.

My take on Dr. Pepper is that its best from an aluminum can, The aluminum reacts with it, but because of the way that Dr. Pepper is supposed to taste, it actually enhanses the flavor, only when ice cold. Dr. Pepper from the plastic bottle is somewhere between the canned version and the fountian. and Dr. Pepper from the fountian just loses something.. Don't quite know what it is, Might just be that most of em were calibrated wrong for Dr. Pepper, as It requires a little bit higher syrup to carbonated water ratio. In my opinion anyway.

Gotta agree about beer though. In the bottle, Stella tastes great, but in the can I don't like it..that much. Well, as much as in the bottle.

Guinness from a can doesn't taste bad at all, I wouldn't be worried. It's the only way you can buy it, the bottled beer is different.
Will it taste as good as a freshly drawn pint at the pub? No, nothing will, short of buying yourself a keg and special tapper. I think the main difference is that you shouldn't drink the beer from the can, the beer, and the little plastic nob they put in the can, are designed for you to pour the beer into a glass, big enough to fit the entire can. Most cheaper beer that comes in cans, people drink right out of the can, so there is the mettallic taste, that you just don't get drinking Guiness out of a frosty pint glass. |

. . . You pump the can full of nitrogen. *shrugs* They've talked several times about altering the amount of nitrogen they put in the cans, trying to adjust the head, but no one will hear of it. Apparently the head you get from a poured can of Guinness is at least comparable to regular draught. Give it a shot, report back to us. |
