I need some motivation and words of encouragement
I hate cooking.
I used to love it. When I was still living with my parents, I was ALL about the cooking shows and the chopping and the sauteeing, etc. Now, years later, I have grown to hate it. I made rice the other day and I hated it. The time it takes to prepare a decent meal (vegetarian meal, at that) after coming home from work is too much for me to take. This hatred has even sprouted a personal dream of mine...to have my own chef. To answer that question, what would you do with a million dollars? I'd hire my own personal chef. I've even started doing some budget checking to see how I could work it in. Problem is, I am trying to lose weight and my crutch has been the ease and simplicity of prepackaged food. I need to start eating fresher, healthier foods, but the idea of cracking open one of my dozens of veggie cookbooks sends me fleeing in the opposite direction. My husband is also a good cook, but I think he is suffering from the same prepackaged crutch that I am. Another problem is that, even when I was enjoying cooking, I never liked my own creations. Whether from recipe or off the cuff...I was never pleased with the meals I prepared even though others loved them and complemented me. I wonder if any of you have had the same, uh ... how to say it? ...lack of passion for cooking. Do you have any suggestions? I am very willing to listen and try to right this situation, I'm just dumbfounded as where to start.

Personal chef's really aren't that expensive... in many instances, tehy will come to your home one day a week, and do all the shopping and cooking for you and either freeze it or leave it in the fridge for you to reheat... It's a pretty reasonable service.
I love to cook, but detest cooking for just me... If I have to dirty more than one pan or pot I won't bother, that's where I get frustrataed... I guess to find your passion for cooking, is find something you love to do... and do it for yourself... I personally love to bake bread... plain old white bread, Sourdough, focaccia... you name it -- if it's got yeast, I love to play with it... It's my therapy of a sort because it's mindless and well the smell is outstanding. There are a bunch of cookbooks that are five ingredients or less - maybe that's a place to start - -I know there's nothing more frustrrating to read thru a cookbook and want ot make something only to find that you are missing a bunch of ingredients...

maybe it would help if you started with simplier things.
for instance, i love sandwiches. i can eat them for the rest of my life. there are many different ways to prepare them, and doesn't take long at all. start with something that you like, and find different ways to prepare it... |
