favorite beer? :)

beer: we all love it. but we all seem to have different favorites...
what are some of your favorite beers? personally, i like heineken the best :)
i work at a bar sometimes and ive noticed there is no clear "most popular" beer. what do you guys drink/think?

matteo101 08-20-2004 12:28 AM

Theres like ten posts on this...lol

Willravel 08-29-2004 12:11 AM

I have no problem with repeat posts, the people deserve to know!
I have tried them ALL and I've found that different beers go with different meals or situations, but if someone says, "I'm buying!" I'm usually ordering a Dos Equis Special Lager. There's something to be said about German brewers making Mexican beer. It has just the right amount of quality, but no so much flavor that it overpowers you.
Guiness is good if I'm hungry.

pedro padilla 08-29-2004 01:21 AM

you like heineken? tastes like fermented bananas. Anderson Valley boont amber from northern california is nectar. this comes from a professional.

paj 08-29-2004 01:13 PM

Harpoon IPA... gets better with each one

RainbowBright 08-29-2004 07:59 PM

All time favorite is Bell's Oberon the summer brew from a microbrew in Kalamazoo MI.

I'll drink just about anything The Champagne of Beers is always a favorite Miller High Life and I usually like just about any Hefewiezen. (I have no idea if I spelled that right)

davik 08-29-2004 11:38 PM

RainbowBright, you certainly chose the right brewery; Bell's stuff is amazing. My all time favorite is their Consecrator Dopplebock; it's expensive, but worth every cent. Unfortunately they only make the stuff a half month out of every year :P

Antikarma 08-30-2004 04:53 AM

I know this is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous, I'm very very aware of it, but....

I won't drink Molson anymore. I'm sorry I won't. I want my beer 100% Canadian. I KNOW it's the same beer. I KNOW nothing has changed, but.... thats me.

The prob? Well up here in the boonies its tough to get much else. Remember in Yellowknife a 6 pack is 15 bucks, so I'm relegated to Kokanee till I can move down south again. My fave used to be Extra Old Stock.

Sooooooooon I'll be drinking my microbrews again. Good god I'd sell my wife off for a pint of Palamino Pale.

Stillborn 09-05-2004 02:11 PM

It's a tie between Sierra Nevada and Guinness for me.

Mr_Wall 09-09-2004 11:37 PM

Australian beer James Boag's premium, or Tiger from singapore I think

thingstodo 09-10-2004 03:00 AM

Almost any British ale suits my fancy. Fuuler's ESB is awesome and you can always get a Newcastle. Can't go wrong with Guiness. Guess I like most micro brews that are darker. I've had that Kalamazoo stuff and it is good!

Dane Bramage 09-10-2004 07:25 AM

Anything kinda brown. New Castle, Bass. If I'm traveling to places that have lots of micro-brews, then I always try the house/local brew. Oregon is great for this as well as Colorado. I'm in NC, so we don't have squat for micro-brew. Not sure if this one qualifies as a micro, but Fat Tire, Ft. Collins, CO. is a great beer. My preferred choice, if I can get it.

DB.

canuckguy 09-10-2004 02:24 PM

import- bass ale
local- labatt 50, or moosehead.

stonegrody 09-10-2004 02:32 PM

Negro Modelo
Guiness
Newcastle
Leviathan

Mmm...beer.

aminal 09-13-2004 02:18 PM

My top 5 in no particular order...

Black Sheep Ale (UK)
Guiness (Ireland)
Coopers Sparkling (Australia)
Manns Original Brown Ale (UK)
and there are times when you just can't beat a Stella.

In fact pretty much anything cold, brown and fizzy works well

nottwood 09-13-2004 02:21 PM

Grolsch, Heineken are good...

Willravel 09-13-2004 05:30 PM

Really? No one else loves Dos Equis Special Lager? Wow.
Let's not forget Pilsner Urquell (go to Czech Republic NOW if you've never tried), germany's Jever Pilsner and Mahr's, and America's own Firestone Walker beer.

Shizukana 09-13-2004 05:58 PM

Guinness, followed closely by Newcastle.

Surprisingly enough, Guinness is lighter (has less carbs and calories) than Coors Light. Interesting bit of trivia for ya. ;)

Obtuse 09-13-2004 07:37 PM

I'll do a top 5...
1. Rolling Rock
2. Shiner Bock
3. Heineken Special Dark
4. Chimay Red Ale
5. Dos XX Lager

Shizukana 09-13-2004 08:15 PM

Ooooh. Shiner is good too - probably my favorite domestic.

thesupermikey 09-13-2004 09:39 PM

Sam Smith Oatmeal stout. By far the best ever

Captain Nemo 09-14-2004 05:53 AM

Hear hear for Bell's Brewery. I've been drinking all of their products since 1983.

radioguy 09-14-2004 05:23 PM

Import - Amstel Light.....awesome crisp taste

Local - Miller Light....I guess I'm kind of boring

Jonnymax 09-15-2004 02:16 AM

Negra Modela, Corona, pretty much any hefe, and when I have to scrape the bottom of the barrel, Ill take MGD.

Tusko 09-15-2004 11:27 PM

no votes for keiths? strange.

shadrock 09-16-2004 05:45 AM

free beer, free beer that's my favorite brand
if I didn't have to buy it, its the best beer in the land
warm flat funky, it don't matter to me
the greatest beer in the whole wide world is the one you buy for me!

itch vaccine 09-16-2004 06:15 AM

Corona.. Corona.. Corona..

:)

MikeyChalupa 09-16-2004 06:28 AM

Corona! MGD if the place doesn't have Corona. Avoid Bud beers at all cost... I get a headache after 1 bottle. Can't stand it. I'm getting to the point where although Coors Light commercials look like a fun time, I'd much rather be in a Corona commercial. They're more my speed nowadays.

Overseas I like to drink Strongbow Cider, I love finding it on tap in little pubs.

roachboy 09-16-2004 08:53 AM

the boont amber is a fine beverage. i havent had it since i left cali, and it is about the only thing i miss.

i prefer belgian--trappist--beers. my favorite is probably achel's double, but i also like orval a whole lot. chimay blue is great too.

I just had a Sam Smith "Nut Brown Ale" which was very, very good stuff. Smooth. At the same place (they have a lot of different beers) I had a Hooe Gaarden (Sp?). It's German, very light in color, and has a buttery, smooth flavor. Very nice. But again, the Sam Smith was awesome

ciupi404 09-17-2004 05:08 AM

urquel pilsner, jever. in that order

OK willravel!

Draconis 09-30-2004 06:51 PM

Can't stand Sam Adams, Corona, or Belgian Cherry Banana Wheat Special Reserve Brew.
Give me Franziskaner Heffeweizen, Warrsteiner, or any dunkel from Bayern.
It's like a whole goddamn meal in a beer.
That said, when I'm looking for something that won't break the bank and tastes better than anything close to it's price, I've got three letters:
P B R
Pabst Blue Ribbon is God's gift to college students everywhere.

tropple 10-01-2004 03:27 AM

Black Star was my favorite ale. Crips, strongly hopped. Good stuff.

Celebrator was my favorite dark, being a good thick doppel boch. Strong hopping, good bitter chocolate/coffee tones.

Makes me wish I still drank ;-)

Glory's Sun 10-01-2004 06:08 AM

Killians Irish Red

Yuengling

guess I'm pretty boring too

edziu 10-02-2004 11:53 AM

BUDWEISER, it goes good with Harleys, and women

LeviticusMky 10-02-2004 08:30 PM

Killians is great, though I find it hard to drink, as it's brewed in colorado. Feels like I'm cheating.

Guiness and Harp. Great alone. A perfect combo. Mix half and half carefully for a "Black 'n' Tan" Harp on TOP of the Guiness.

Fantastic taste. Great darkness of Guiness combined with the smoother flavor of Harp's. I wouldn't try a black 'n' tan with other beers, cause it rarely comes out right. Ends up tasting like muddy beer.

radioguy 10-02-2004 09:19 PM

i've seen alot of people choose corona for their favorites. i have a question for ya'll. do you drink it with or without the lime? to me, a beer that has to be drank with something else diminishes the quality of the beer. does the mexican beer not taste good without the lime? do you drink the other beers with lime? just curious

davik 10-03-2004 12:35 AM

Tried Bell's Two Hearted Ale about a week ago and have quickly come to consider it one of my favorites. It's expensive, but if you get a chance I highly recommend it to everyone.
