I like this Sweetwater 420 ale that you can get in Georgia..
Also - any beer from the New Belgium brewery in colorado (like Fat Tire) is like heaven, but they don't ship to many states east of the mississipi..

Pilsner Urquell is pretty good, but not great. Then again, it is the source of the word Pilsner, so there is something to be said for it.
My favorites are Bitburger (german) or Ottakringer (austrian).
Guinness can be good, but I find the quality is inconsistent, sometimes it tastes too sour or just funny. New Castle is real good though.
In europe (at least germany and austria) depending on the bar you can get 'strong beer' - up to 15% alcohol, tasting like wine or molasses. I stay away from those fruity wheat beers though.
For American I always like Summit, they make a real good winter ale, and it is local pride too (I live two blocks north of Summit Ave in St. Paul, though I haven't been to the brewery.)

I'm a big beer fan. I've taken trips to Belgium to drink beer, visit breweries and have fun. I think overall my favorite is pretty much a Belgian standard, Duvel. It's like a little slice of heaven in a glass.

I noticed only one other person in this thread (i know there are a few beer threads) said anything about Belgian beers.

Belgium has ~3000 different beers available. Not all are available at any one time and some of them taste nothing like you might consider "beer" but these folks are REALLY serious about beer. Some of the best selling (and one of the world's top rated beers) are brewed by Trappist Monks!

Many people think of Germany when it comes to beer but in truth, the German Beer Purity Laws have so limited what can be done to beer that they've stagnated. It's my understanding that the Germans are going to relax these laws soon, or may have already done so. Originally intended to protect Germans from shite beer, they've actually limited their selection.

Another neat thing about Belgian beers is that most have their own special glass! I collect Belgian beer glasses and have about 40.

Overall, I'm pretty serious about my booze.

If they don't have keiths, usually I stick with Kokanee Gold.

I haven't tried many, but if i'm strait up drinking beer, I like Corona and Deisel, I used to like select, but it doesn't taste good to me anymore.

My personal beer favorites are Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Dos Equis (Special Lager - good choice, Willravel), Pacifico, and Bohemia. I love the Mexican brews. (as she cracks open a cold one)

I gotta go with the guys reccomending the Arrogant Bastard Ale. Good stuff. I just gotta say that Fat Tire is good it's definitly not the best that New Belgium has to offer in my mind. Try the Trippel some time. Odell's 90 Shilling is pretty tasty too.

On that note, I've seen this Bell's place mentioned a few times. Where abouts in the US is it located? I tend to travel a bit so if I'm in the region I'll definitly give it a go.

Always up for some good ol DOuble bastard, although Sam Adams Crnabaric Lambic I picked up a while ago has me liking it a lot. Too bad it's a seasonal brew.

Sgoilear: I forgot about the Fat Tire, it definately is a great one. And if what you say is true about that not even being New Belgium's best, I guess I'll have to search out some more of their stuff. So far, I have only tried/seen the Fat Tire.

edit: After some research and e-mailing the company, I have discovered that they only have distribution of the Fat Tire here in Southern California. However, they do plan on getting wider distribution of their full line by mid 2006. ***Sigh*** I guess I'll have to wait it out.

im2smrt4u: I work for Whole Foods Market, and I think all of our stores carry it. Unfortunately, we don't have any stores in the high dessert. I think the Pasadena location would be the nearest one to you. I actually e-mailed the company (New Belgium Brewing) yesterday and they were super cool, helpful and quick to respond. ( nbb@newbelgium.com ) just ask them if they know of any place near you. Apparently there are a few places in Vegas that sell as many as 6 of their beers, but only the Fat Tire in SoCali.

I hope the preceding does not qualify as a plug or violate TFP policy. Just passing along information.

I'm born and raised Nova Scotian, I am an Alexander Keith's man to the bone. I also like Propeller Blonde. Living in Halifax I frequented a nice pub (not a bar, important distinction) that had a very excellent selection of on Tap beer. Not to mention peanuts all over the place

But I live in North Texas, I had to go through major beer shock. I like Shiner Bock enough to drink it without complaint or hesitation. But it's just not the same.

Corona or Sol is the one, nothin like a cold wet beer on a hot summers day ah beer might grab one now

i just found a bar that serves their beer in mugs so cold that the beer floats cool round sheets of ice continually to the top until you're half way down. They have Newcastle on tap and that's a damn fine beer when cold.

I also have been drinking some Fin du Monde lately and it's really made me want to try some more Belgium beers (yes I know it's not Belgium, but it's more like a Belgium than Canadian/US beer.)

Currently it's Corona Light (gotta cut the calories...LOL). Or maybe Heineken. :) Supposedly I'm going to the Sierra Nevada brewery this weekend, since I have a friend from Chico whose dad works there.

I like Bass Ale, Labatt's Blue, Molson Ice, Stella Artois and Allagash pale ale (with a lemon) :) I also like black 'n tans.

Anyone else tried Baltica? It's a the biggest selling beer in Russia, and they're starting to introduce it here. I love both #3 and #4.

So I tried Unfiltered Wheat beer from the Sierra Nevada brewery the other day. I tell you what, it will get you fucked up pretty fast. Haha!

We just had a New Belgium distributor's night at a pub here in town. Great night. Got a free keychain bottle opener :)
