A quick camping recipe...

sometimes when you've packed deep into the wilderness or just on a quick weekend camping trip, it's hard to prepare something delicious w/the limited resources available.

if you've happened to catch a trout or two on your expedition... here is something i really enjoy.

clean the trout the conventional way, leave the skin on it.

drop a dollop of butter and a quarter cup brown sugar into a fry-pan. preheat the frypan over the fire beforehand... set it on a rock or grill to get an even dispersement of heat. set the fish in the pan after the butter has melted completely... but before it starts to burn. just a few minutes w/the skin-side up should do it, no need to flip it over. season w/a pinch of salt.

if you're on an extended hike... a tablespoon of fat will replace the butter.

i know this is a really simple way to prepare fish while you're out in the woods... but that is part of it's charm. just a couple cheap ingredients, a pan and 5 minutes of your time is enough to get it done. take care.

we always cleaned the fish, seasoned it with garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper, etc... to taste. add a little butter and then wrap in aluminum foil. just toss in the fire, wait 5-8 minutes, roll over once and eat.

We used to use a pan and some basic spices (salt pepper garlic powder) to make them crispy roasted. Use a pan with a lid-a medium hot fire -a little butter in the bottom of the pan set the (spice covered) fish in the pan sitting on the belly flaps and seal it up for 15-20 minutes(depending on size).
