I'm a strawberry preserves man myself, but I do like to mix it up a bit at times.
Grape, apple, cranberry jelly, it's all good. I also like strawberry preserves and cream cheese sandwiches. Yum. |
I make my own fruit preserves, so I go with a few of my favorites, depending on my mood.
Blueberry is my favorite, by far. Cranberry rhubarb is always nice. Can't go wrong with blackberry. And, if I happen to run out of preserves, I'll get some Duerr's 1881 Thick Cut marmalade. |
Oops, almost forgot peanut butter & honey. Yum x2!
|
Usually I use honey and banana. No jelly or jam.
Sometimes I use sliced apples (something crisp and sweet like Gala). Sometimes I use SHARP cheddar cheese. Most people I tell that to think it's gross ... but don't knock it 'til you've tried it. |
I usually would stick to honey, I love the way the honey crystallizes on the outsides edges of the bread if you let it sit for a while. My Grandmother would always make homemade jams for Christmas which were wonderful. I think I was too spoiled by her homemade jams to ever grow fond of jellies. I love biting into those bits of solid fruits and berries, nummy.

I can't have peanut butter or anything with peanuts in it.
Severe allergic reactions. :( |
I've been digging the blackberry jam with my PB these days. I definitely prefer jams to jelly. So much easier to spread.
|
Usually being an orange marmalade/pb type of guy, so not being able to get the dominant preference here for grape out of my mind, I was suddenly inspired while reading about some of the overbloated, overly ripe, bombastic type of cabernet sauvignons coming out of California now adays. So it dawned on me that drinking such a grape concoction while nibbling on a nice crunchy cracker spread with your favorite peanut butter might revive my taste for grape with pb&j.
|
I just saw garlic and onion jam melded with fruit flavors at my local grocer. I'm sorry to say I didn't pick it up; I would've liked to voice on its merit of taste. Has anyone else partaken in such a condimentary concoction?
|
no, i haven't, jetee, but it sounds heavenly... just not with peanut butter.
my pbj is with apricot or peach preserves preferably. if none are around, i'll take raspberry or strawberry jam. not a fan of jelly. the texture kinda weirds me out. i need my stuff spreadable. but most of the time, i too, stick to honey.... the organic stuff... with bananas. and it makes me happy. |
I don't like any jelly/ jam other than grape.
Boring, I know. |

Jetée, I've never seen garlic and onion jelly but I can imagine it tasting good with the right combination of ingredients....not sure about using it in peanut butter, that seems weird.
But there is another non-fruit combo in jelly that I do like, and even with peanut butter, and that's jalapeno jelly. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...7/l6525_lg.jpg ...it reminds me of hot combinations like Kung Pao chicken with hot chili peppers and peanuts. |
skogafoss just made peach jam... we'll be eating that for a number of months.
|
I much prefer jam or preserves over jelly.
With that being said, I do enjoy cherry jelly, as well as apply jelly. The jam list could go on and on, as well as orange marmalade thrown in there. |
Strawberry. I can do grape, but strawberry is tenfold better than grape.
BTW - I fucking love peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. Fucking love...... |
Almost forgot, that a TALL glass of milk MUST be poured, prior to beginning of the sandwich making, and placed in the freezer, then when the pb&j is done, you pull the milk out of the freezer and it should just have a cm or 2 crust of ice on top of it to drink with the sandwich.

Home made blackberry or muscadine jelly for me.
