Peanut butter and Jelly. What is your Jelly?
I had this discussion recently with someone.
I think the only way to go is strawberry jelly but to tell you the truth I have not tried that many other flavor jellies with peanutbutter. I hear that grape jelly may be more widely eaten with peanut butter than strawberry jelly. Let's find out. What is your jelly (with peanut butter of course)? I am seting up a poll but it is possible that the other category may get too populated which may make the choices useless.

I rotate between jams. No jelly for me.
1) Homemade strawberry freezer jam, made with local strawberries 2) Strawberry rhubarb jam from the market, made with local berries 3) Homemade raspberry jam, from my family friend, made from raspberries she grows herself Sometimes I also eat it with honey, preferably local; it helps with my allergies.

grape is for wine and ice popsicles...well actually I like anything with grape in it. Grappa ftw! And I always have strawberry jelly on hand since I do like it.
But my No.1 preference with PB is orange marmalade; second choice is apricot...e.g. Polaner All-Fruit. Sometimes I go with Rasberry. My peanut butter preference is Jif, I always have both smooth and extra crunchy on hand. In an effort to be more health and eco friendly, I've tried some "home made" and organic varieties of PB, but I still prefer Jif. If it's not too OT, I'd like to hear opinions on "best peanut butter" to go with your choice of jelly. |

Grape jelly on PB doesn't make sense. it's too gloppy, and falls off to easily. I prefer the President's Choice "twice the fruit/half the sugar" jams. They are more like fruit spreads, and are not overly sweet.
I have both grape jelly and strawberry jam in the 'fridge, and the jam is being used up almost weekly, while the jelly has been there since before March. But Like Onesnowyowl, I mix up my jam flavours too: field berry mix, raspberry, strawberry, apricot and mango/peach. |

Thanks, Redlemon. I just went to that old thread and voted for crunchy, but it didn't really talk about what brand of PB is best. OTOH, thanks for the tip on the Parkers Family PB...I read that and will hunt it down and devour it asap...I'll post where I found it so you might be able to get some, too. After some minor googling, I found that some Walmart stores carry it intermittently ...not happy about that but I'll see what I can find; it used to be carried by Costo but that may also be on/off, maybe some Giant supermarkets have it. I'm on a mission...luckily since I wasn't too busy doing anything else. |

I like strawberry preserves on PB.
But then there's always "Painful Rectal Itch Jelly" ... from old SNL skit: Quote:

Grape is good. Apricot is good. Apple is good. Strawberry superior-y.

I don't get this jelly thing... jelly is insipid.
Grape... even worse. Jam is the only way to go. I prefer raspberry over strawberry but either is good for a proper Peanut Butter and Jam sandwich.

On to the topic at hand... Welch's Grape with Skippy Creamy on Arnold white is the classic choice. There is what PB&J means - white bread, grape jelly, 1950's replica peanut butter. I am also a fan of Creamy Peanut Butter and Strawberry preserves on toasted wheat. (No crunchy peanut butter for me. Do I want Crunchy, I will add peanuts.) Blackberry Jam with Nutella on whatever is just ducky too.

Is it Hero that makes the bitter Orange marmalade and the ginger marmalade, or is that someone else? Good stuff, regardless.

Either grape, or none... just plain peanut butter, on rye or cracked wheat if at all possible... or just peanut butter by the spoonful... creamy or crunchy, it's the perfect food.... except for eggs... hmmmm... fried eggs... scrambled eggs... poached eggs... soft-boiled eggs... egg salad... eggs in salad... egg sandwiches... omelets....................
Oh, yeah, grape, definitely grape!

There's something just "wrong" about peanut butter and jelly from the same jar.
don't even get me started on "Uncrustables".

Strawberry Baby jelly? Interesting combo. How's it go with peanut butter and bacon?

For me, the ultimate sandwich is the Elvis. Peanut butter, Bananas, and bacon on thick cut white bread, fried in a stick of butter. But I digress. So far, the only sandwiches here that sound peculiar to me are PB & Apricot and PM & Orange marmalade. They just don't strike me as tastes I would put together. (Strawberry/baby could be yummy so long as they only use free range babies.)

I love strawberry, but it has to be preserves or jam, not jelly- I despise jelly. I like mine on a hearty bread with smooth creamy peanut butter. I love creamy peanut butter, crunchy is just not right.
Hubby wants grape or blackberry jelly on his, with crunchy peanut butter on white bread-hey whatever makes my man happy. So far my kiddos don't have a preference, they just eat whatever mommy gives them. And I try to give them lots of variety. LOL

I'd say something along the lines of, "And you people call yourselves Americans?" except that 1) I'm not actually white trash, I just play one on TV, and 2) Some of you don't call yourselves Americans.
Whitebread, CreamyPB, Grape Jelly. That's a PB&J. There are other execllent sandwiches involving peanut butter and various other fruit spreads, but they aren't PB&J any more than Keilbasa is a hot dog.

I once jammed my pomegranate, but don't really want to talk about it.
Overall, various preserves and Jams are my favorites.
