How about mixing a handful of those really good little fruity jelly beans into a scoop of your favorite peanut butter and spreading that on bread?

Ever searching for more variety to spice the life, I found that this is somebody's idea of a good lunch...PBJ sandwich on toasted rye of all things, pistachios, raisins, and jelly beans. Yum?

You need help.

Grape Jelly is the food of cowards.

Man up and eat of the studly raspberry jam (seeds? bring 'em on).

BadNick 07-18-2008 12:53 PM

OK, open your minds, open your mouths, open your stomachs....and try some wasabi pistachio vegetable aspic jelly with crunchy peanut butter on crusty italian bread.

Peanuts are legumes!!! and not to be relegated only to a sweet "dessert" concoction.

Jif (creamy or crunchy), Smuckers grape jelly, honey wheat bread. thats my go-to sammich but I'm open to trying others.

Willravel 07-23-2008 06:03 PM

Raspberry.

Bear Cub 07-23-2008 07:21 PM

I prefer the dark jellies/jams with peanut butter, i.e grape, blackberry, boisenberry, etc. Straight up, like on toast, I prefer the lighter strawberries or rasberries.

Atreides88 07-23-2008 11:53 PM

Strawberry is the best by far, but raspberry is a close second.

Lucifer 07-24-2008 12:12 AM

raspberry all the way, preferably either homemade or double fruit

I voted other - but it really means whatever "Jam" is in the cupboard at the time. Also - honey, replace the Jam with honey.

side note - Aussie shops don't have 'jelly' - just jam

sitardude2000 07-24-2008 03:13 AM

Strawberry. Raspberry sounds good too. Grape jelly seems to be grape juice on steroids. But the important part of this equation is...peanut butter. Peanut butter is ambrosia. It doesn't matter what brand. Crunchy seems like a great idea but creamy is better. Large jars of generic peanut butter refrigerated. This is PROOF there is a God and that he loves us. At the lowest level, all you need to enjoy PB is a finger..a spoon is even better. I believe God saw that peanut butter was good by itself but that His whiny children wanted more. Jelly was the first answer. But then he revealed to a Mr. Reese a better way. Chocolate and peanut butter together. This combination is the true ambrosia.

due to the heightened awareness of peanut allergies amongst children, PB has been banned from schools for at least 2 decades. The market now provides alternatives that are most excellent PB replacements.

Try soynut butter or almond butter (if you can handle nuts - as peanuts are legumes).

the soynut butter tastes nearly identical to pb. And once you through the jelly of your choice on it, or... sliced bananas with a drizzle of chocolate syrup, you are near PB nirvana.

I like the way you think. Chocolate and peanut butter are indescribably good.

hotzot 07-24-2008 04:57 PM

When I was a kid I like PB and jelly with honey. I tried it again in my 40's and it almost made me puke.

Grasshopper Green 07-24-2008 06:51 PM

Strawberry preserves or strawberry jam is my first choice, but red plum or blackberry jam will work in a pinch.

Tophat665 07-25-2008 04:02 AM

A half brother of the PB&J: Fluffernutter - White bread, creamy peanut butter, marshmallow fluff. Good stuff. I prefer to PB&J most times.

Leto 07-25-2008 04:54 AM

Yes! (queue up for type II diabetes)

BadNick 07-25-2008 06:23 AM

We have not one but TWO jars of Fluffernutter in our kitchen pantry.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...-main_Full.jpg

And I see that now we also have Fluffernutter Ice Cream....which would make such a nice sundae with peanut butter and your favorite jelly drizzled on top of it...OK, some chocolate sauce, too.

I loved that stuff as a kid. I don't even know where to find it now though.

Meditrina 07-25-2008 07:26 AM

I voted for strawberry only because that is what I get stuck with after the grape is all gone. The kids prefer grape and nicely leave me the strawberry. I really should just buy my own jam, but I don't eat PB&J too often.

As for peanut butter, the crunchier the better. But I have to have plain for the kids. Boring kids...

It's in the supermarket with the baking supplies, usually. Setting the quintessential goodness of the fluffernutter aside, the real purpose of marshmallow fluff is in candy making. Course, it could be used as an ingredient in Peanut Butter and Chocolate Fudge.....

For some odd reason, I felt this was appropriate:

Lasereth 07-25-2008 12:06 PM

Grape by a long shot!!

BTW has anyone ever had PB&J grilled like a grilled cheese? Just put some butter or pam in a pan and grill a PB&J for a few minutes. It's actually pretty darn good. A WoW guildmate told me about it a couple of years ago and I didn't believe it could even be done until I tried it. Not bad!!!!!

Peanut butter with Apple Jelly...french toast the 'whole' sandwich and sprinkle with powdered sugar. YUM!!

beerguy 08-13-2008 10:28 AM

Pineapple preserves for me

Vigilante 08-13-2008 11:03 AM

I knew the PBJ time video would pop up somewhere. I KNEW it!

I prefer blackberry. I've always eaten wild blackberries, so it made sense to me once I could buy my own jelly that I would like blackberry over grape.

I also LOVE fig preserves. I use that instead of blackberry sometimes.

Haven't eaten yet today, shit now I'm hungry LOL

+1 more view...but I just came back to see how it's going, and can't vote again.

today I had apricot jam on peanut butter whole wheat sandwich. Not as satisfying as the strawberry jam.

There's a Beavertail that is sold with: peanutbutter, Nutella and Reeses Pieces on it. This is an interesting, gooey and addictive combination especially since they all get melted together on the warm dough of the beavertail.

Starkizzer 08-13-2008 11:10 AM

My grandma made awesome plum jam when I was younger from the plums that were grown in our backyard nonetheless. That has to still be my fave jam to go with a nice creamy peanut butter on Milttons multi grain bread.

Otherwise I will say its a toss up between strawberry and apricot.

BadNick 08-14-2008 01:28 PM

Since I'm fishing in OCMD...

...it reminded me of another yummy combo...how about a peanut butter and jelly fish sandwich?

What's the point of selling jelly in plastic squeeze bottles? Once you get half way done, you have to remove the top and use a knife. I mean what's up with that?

Cynthetiq 08-15-2008 06:52 AM

apricot preserves or orange marmalade.

I even do it with tortillas and it's like a quessadilla but with PB&J

Ingredients
  • 2 large flour tortillas
  • 1 oz. peanut butter (smooth or chunky)
  • 1 oz. jelly/jam preference
  1. spread pb on one tortilla.
  2. place on warm skillet until peanut butter starts to melt.
  3. add jelly spread evenly.
  4. cover with other tortilla.
  5. flip.
  6. heat until desired crispness.
  7. remove from pan.
  8. cut into triangles.
  9. eat.

Do not put too much peanut butter. You will be tempted on the 2nd pb&j-illa to add more peanut butter. But be warned! Hot dripping peanut butter does not feel good on your skin at all!

abaya 08-15-2008 06:56 AM

I simply cannot find grape jelly at the supermarket here. :( Iceland has no tradition of PB&J--in general, I have found that most of my European friends dislike peanut butter as a rule, so I'm just glad that I can at least find crunchy PB in the store.

So right now, I'm using a "Four Fruit" jelly of some kind, with strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and--the one I don't like so much (in jelly)--cherries.

We used to do this in the res halls at my university with one of those sandwich griddles when we didn't feel like grilled cheese or tuna melts. Yum.
