COPS
Tell me this isn't the best old-school reality show ever?
I never understand what goes through some people's minds when they are running from or talking to the police. It's like watching a slow, white-trash, train wreck.

I've never seen a show that can captivate my attention like COPS. Me and my brother will sit there and call what will happen while the show is going on. White trash and hoodlums are so predictable. This is THE best reality TV show on television. It never gets old.

I love Cops more than anything. I saw this one episode of COPS that was DEA COPS. They played the same intro except with helicopters and secret agents with machine guns and shit. They were in the jungles of Colombia or wherever busting coke farms. It was fucking awesome. It's nice to see white trash exists in other countries as well

In one of my classes (law enforcement) we saw several COPS clips - they were great. One was these two hispanic guys being chased for burglary - the cops put a helo overhead with a FLIR (Forward Looking InfraRed) camera and spotted them hiding underneath a kid's wading pool with their feet sticking out. The cops walked up, guns drawn, and yanked the pool off and yelled for them to put their hands on their heads. The guys just stayed huddled on the ground, hoping they wouldn't be seen - it was hilarious.
Another great one I've seen is when the cops let a K9 into a supermarket to chase out a burglar - the guy is scared shitless by the dog, which finds him instantly hiding under some chairs in the managerial section.

Reality TV before there was Reality TV...
I've noticed this show is actually on more than any other. There are multiple channels that play it non-stop, CourtTV and FX being the most notorious. Any time you turn on the TV there's a good chance Cops will be on somewhere, possibly more than one at the same time. Then there are also the spinoffs, like Most Extreme Police Videos or whatever also on FX all the time, and in LA there's an even lower-budgeted Cops-alike just for the LAPD appropriately titled LAPD that is sometimes on local stations, even dubbed in Spanish.

Yes, there is only one COPS. How long has this show been on, 45 years or so? I never get tired of watching pimps getting browbeaten by the cops. Always an excellent cathartic release here -- I feel like a freshly ordained priest after watching an episode of COPS.

It is the best old-school reality show!!! It was always on the TV growing up. I totally agree that it's like watching a slow white trash train wreck!! I love when they get the drunken cross dressers trying to convince the cops that they really are women!!! It's so funny! The best episodes are when the cops are laughing along with the audience. Some people just have the saddest lives!

I do enjoy the show I must admit, but I find it fuels my anger towards cops which probably isn't a good thing.

But I just hear about all the corrupt cops, I see what I percieve to be a bunch of bullshit in my home town with cops, and then I see that stuff on tv, I just get angered towards cops. I see the need to have them, I just wish they were less intrusive with there operations.

Why are you opposed to the war on drugs? I'm currently taking a Drugs&Crime class at my university. The general concept is that drugs are bad, cause a lot of crime, but there isn't a pretty solution to them, no matter how you try to slice it. You have to attack drugs at all levels. Local cops go after pushers and addicts, regional cops go after distributors, and feds go after importers or try to work with international agencies to go after manufacturers.
Despite that, any time you take out people at any level of the chain, more people will step in to recreate it. It doesn't - at all - mean you should stop, though. Car chases are an entirely different subject. You have to pursue individuals - you can't just "let them get away" because a lot of the time you may never see them again. Furthermore, if someone starts to run, they can cause a lot more harm to people because they're in an anxious and panicked state, so you want to ensure that you stop them. That said, rookies can cause a lot of harm wrecking on interstates/etc. in car chases. Bad cops makes big news - there's nothing new about that. However, you have to realize that overall very few cops are corrupt. There are corrupt lawyers, corrupt doctors, corrupt politicians (shock!), and corrupt cops. Just because some cops are corrupt doesn't mean that you should hate cops - you should hate the corrupt cops.
