The New Doctor Who

I was searching through the forums for anything said about this show, and I was suprised I didn't find anything. Anybody into this show? I've been downloading every episode as it comes on the bittorrent network (I am not in England)

I find it to be a really well done show. Christopher Eccleston is great, and the story is wonderful. The effects are still a bit, underwhelming but I think that is just the tradition. Am I the only "uber geek" (as my gf calls me) watching this?

I watched the second episode last night here, and I'm gonna be a regular. It's great - the crazy aliens, the nutty doctor and the special effects are spot-on.

The Doctor pwns. I got to say I've been enjoying the new series so far with Christopher Eccelston giving a nice Tom Bakerish Doctor, with a little more black in his humour...

It's rather good, isn't it?

Shame ecclestone only wanted to do the one series.

In brighton right now, they've got an exhibition of some of the props - we went over there on Saturday and there was a Dalek patrolling the pier.

My daughter was really excited (she loves the series), and went up to have her photo taken with it.

The look on her face when it turned to "look" at her was precious - she jumped a mile!

It is being broadcast in Canada on the CBC... it's really good. I've been a fan of Eccleson (Shallow Grave, Cracker, Jude, etc.)

I'm really suprised they aren't showing it in America at all. I bet it could do well here. I guess it's bittorrent for me still. (anyone else find the gas mask people waay to creepy?)

It's only a matter of time before BBC America starts to show them... the Beeb is probably just trying to see if they can get SciFi or someone like that to license the show first. If not, then BBC America...

A good friend of mine is head of programming there... I'll see what he says.

I am so happy that Doctor Who is back on the air and exceeding all expectations. Christopher Eccleston is wonderfully unpredictible and the stories have all been entertaining.

Most Sci-fi series on TV these days revolve around some sort of military operation (Stargate SG1, Battlestar Galactica, Enterprise) so I find DW's adventures through time and space very refreshing.

I am especially looking forward to the 2nd season, because the producers are planning to take the stories away from Earth and out into space.

Of course, any discussion of Doctor Who should include a link to the most extensive DW website: Gallifrey One.

The only reason we have digital cable right now is to watch old DW episodes on BBC Kids Canada.

I'm loving the series so far, Eccleston is great in it. I'm glad to hear they're moving away from earth for the second season though, that's the only thing I've had against the show is being on or about earth every ep so far.

Life is good - the (aussie) ABC is showing repeats of the Tom Baker series 4 afternoons a week, and the new series on Saturday nights. I'm enjoying both.

Anyone else notice a very grey/white haired and slightly rotund Tom Baker on "Monarch of the Glen"?

I finally seen the first one and I think it's fantastic.

I really, really like this Eccleston guy as the Doctor. All I can say is that he plays the part perfectly.

And Billie Piper isn't too hard on the eyes either, eh? Something about the British girls....

A lot of people are disappointed that Christopher Eccleston hasn't signed on for the next series. But the next Doctor has already been chosen and here's the regeneration if your interested!

If your following the series watching this may spoil it for you.

I think he's a good choice (having seen other things he's done) and will make the role his own

I am really sorry to see Eccleston go, he was brilliant, but this new guy looks like he will be good too. It looks like the focus of the show is about to shift away from earth which may or may not be a good thing...but we shall see what happens...

gr, when will they find someone in the US to distribute this, this show is amazing, and I would love to be able to watch it some other way then bittorrent.

Thanks for the link. I couldn't get it to work properly, but it inspired me to google it and I found a web page with all the 'regenerations' (is that what they call them?) from the entire history of the show. Edit: Oops...forgot the link... Page 1

Can't say that I watched any of it as a kid other than the occasional episode on PBS, but that didn't detract from the 'cool' factor.

I'm about 8 shows into the season and I'm loving it. It's just the right combination of the serious and the ridiculous. I'm particularly impressed by the shows choice to not CGI everything (whether they did that on purpose or because of budget concerns, I don't know...or care). The show has retained a bit of the 'cheese' factor that makes old sci-fi shows just so fun to watch.

I think it's supposed to look low budget because it wouldn't be Dr. Who otherwise!
Looking 'cheap and cheerful' is part of what the fans love

I have to say it's one of the reasons I keep watching.

Those baby faced alien monsters that pass gas? The CGI stuff of them running through the halls was nice, but the puppet/full body costume stuff was gold.

I totally enjoy the show. We postpone going out before 8pm to watch it.

And the Daleks can hover now! No more going up stairs to get away now Doctor... They're onto you!

I'm a bit apprehensive about the next Doctor, David Tennant, being too young and handsome, but given the high quality of the series so far, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

The Bad Wolf/Parting of Ways finale rocked!
