Aintitcoolnews.com... not so cool anymore?
it seems like aintitcoolnews.com has lost its stride recently, has anyone else noticed that? it used to be my favorite sight to hear about movies coming down the pipe and first reviews of ones coming out... but it seems like they're short on news and relevancy these days.
i used to love it because it was so geeky... but now it seems like it has fallen into the general sort of cinematic snobbery that makes me tired of most of the other film critic`s sites. Harry picks the most obscure movies and dvds for his favorites but i get the feeling that he's just trying to be snobbish, not cause he really likes them. furthermore, his picks and reviews are increasingly becoming politically charged. it's his site and he can do what he wants... but i think he takes the fun out of that brand of pop-culture when you take it so seriously. it's not taken too seriously in the sense that he puts too much time into it, just that he destroys it by making it what it's not. it's slowed down too. the last 3 movies Harry has reviewed are Blade Trinity, Alexander, and the SpongeBob Squarepants movie. wow. plus, the only thing worse than the moderation on their talk-back feature is the grammar. also, i've got to call bullshit on a lot of stuff he says regarding the movies he likes. you'll often see him say he's watched some obscure movie 7-8 times and can't get enough of it... yeah right. there aren't enough hours in the day to see all the movies he claims to see. if you watched movies for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week... i'm certain you wouldn't be able to cover the material he claims to cover, especially when you factor in how he says he watches the same one over and over and over.

I never did get into this site... I tried but just couldn't get past things like "pwesents".
Loved the story of how it was created and even how the site changed how films are marketed... but just couldn't read the content.

I mainly watch it for television gossip and spoiler reviews. As for the movie stuff, either a) his taste is 'way different than mine, b) he's on the take or doing favors for people in the business in return for other favors, or c) both of the above.

haha, i hadn't run across that particular something awful page yet. the idea that they might be on the take from the movie industry (or that they bias their coverage in return for favors) didn't occur to me before... but now that i think about it that would make sense. especially in the way they've been covering the movie industry lately. and yeah, i agree w/bparker, those talk-back thread are just plain juvenile.
i hesitate to start a whole new thread over this... so i'll just ask it in this one to see if anyone stopping by has suggestions. what are some sites you visit regularly that feature the same type of content as aintitcoolnews (breaking news, first reviews of screenings, etc.)? as far as aintitcool has fallen imho, i struggle to find anything that is much better.

I hate that fucking site. Everything they say is always bullshit. I remember one of the regulars got to see Episode II early, like way early, and was telling everyone at AICN how awesome it was, saying it was the "movie of the year" and would sweep the awards. And then Harry or whatever his name is got to see it and he said it was one of the best of the year also. Then I saw it and it sucks. Stuff like that happens constantly. Their opinions always seem to just be so random and pointless. A recent trend I've noticed: Their opinions seem to be made to contradict the popular opinon. Now that's annoying.

I couldn't agree more.
I hate the layout. I hate the nasty bickering in the comments section. I hate the so-called "insiders". I hate the self-promotion. I used to go there semi-regularly, but it just wears me down now. Are there any other good sites out there? How's RottenTomatoes? Mr Mephisto |

That site gives me a headache. You'd think for all the attention they generate, they could've worked on the design a bit.

Even though I still visit it, I will admit AICN has gone down a bit over time. If you want something a bit different check out http://CHUD.com http://ComingSoon.net or like somone mentioned above http://RottenTomatoes.com
